after reading pages of review, why I don't anybody mentioning Causeway Bay. I am planning to go HK or maybe Macau if possible. Thinking of spending 1 night at Macau and 2 nights at HK's metropark at Causeway Bay. About how much should I bring if I am planning to visit top 10 places you guys mentioned like Disneyland,Peak...excluding flight and accommodation?
RM1.5k for travelling around and eat plus a lil bit of shopping enough? When is the next sales?Dec? About Jan or Feb got sales?
*
Causeway Bay was in my planned itinerary, but kena taken out coz my relative gave me free tickets to Ocean Park.

Here's what I planned before:
Go to Causeway Bay, bit of jalan jalan, makan and shopping, follow by the Museum of Coastal Defence at Shau Kei Wan, (free admission on Wednesday). From there take the "ting ting" (ie the tram) at the terminal, all the way back to Central (HKD 2 per ride), enjoy the streets view and buildings along the way.

I hope you don't mind my comment, it's seems like you are running all over HK, from the island side to Kowloon and from Kowloon to the island side. This will waste valuable travelling time and transport cost.

Disneyland, Citygate, airport, Big Buddha (not in your plan) - these are over at the Lantau Island, nearer to visit from Kowloon (ie when you are staying at TST)
Stanley, The Peak, Ocean Park, Causeway Bay - are on HK Island
Other places to visit on the HK island side - Repulse Bay, Golden Bauhinia Sq, Central, Lan Kwai Fong.

Other attractions at Kowloon side - Avenue of Star (at night, watch Symphony of Lights from there), Wong Tai Shin, Chi Lin Garden, temple street, ladies street, goldfish street, sportswear street...

Added on September 24, 2009, 11:32 amhi all.. please comment on my draft itenery..

travel period: 9th - 15th october
Tempreture: ______
Sales period: ______

Staying in Causeway bay @ HK ISLAND
9th october
(morning flight)
12pm - 1pm      Reach HK and check in (takes 45-60 mins to reach your hotel)
1pm - 5pm        Citygate Mall (this is near the airport, make no sense travelling back there after check in)
5pm onwards      The peak and walk around
My suggestion:  Instead of Citygate Mall, go to Stanley market, from Stanley take bus no 6, alight at Cheung Kong, walk up to Garden Road to take tram to the Peak.

10th October
10am - 6pm      Ocean Park
6pm onwards    Shopping around I suggest you shop around Causeway Bay, both on the HK island side

11th October
10am - 8pm      Disneyland
8pm onwards    Shopping around causeway bay Shop at Citygate instead, both on Lantau Island
Actually, 11th Oct, is a Sunday, not advisable to go to Disneyland, crowded, change this day itinerary to 14th Oct, Wed?  Fill 11th Oct with some where else...

12th-13th October
Staying in Royal Macau hotel << ok ar, far from those tourist spot?

11-12pm          Check-out hotel
12pm              Macau and check in hotel
                      Walk around the town
(any recommended place to go? really no idea ler)

13th October
12pm              Check-out
                      return to HK
2pm                Check into hotel (stay around tsim sha tsui)

noon onwards  shopping around

14th October
morning          Stanley market (worth to visit?) Go to Disneyland, and shop at Citygate mall later
evening onwards  shopping around

15th October
last min shopping and bye bye hk

any recommeded places to visit that i have left out?

Thanks a million  biggrin.gif

Yes, worth going to HK even if you don't like shopping.

I'm not a shopping person, shopping was not included in my 9D/8N's trip itinerary. Only dropped by Citygate Mall for dinner and jalan jalan (and didn't buy anything) on the way back from Big Buddha. And bought a pair of Raebok at the warehouse sale, well, the place was next to Avenue of Star..

So many places to visit in HK, if I go again, I can still plan an itinerary to go to places that I've not yet been to.

Besides, the food, esp dim sum is good and the wanton mee - super big wanton.

Hi, is it good for someone who doesn't go shopping to go HK?
And I went to Tokyo's disneyland...

Is it worth going? Or other places better?

I agree, at least can say that "I've been to HK Disneyland". But if only going to HK for very short stay, eg 3 days, then if don't like ma don't go lor..

HK Disneyland, being "small", also good lar, one day can finish all - the rides and the shows. Been there, done that, next time don't go liao.

Another good thing about HK Disneyland is, at least it is quite affordable (other Disneyland more expensive ah). The food prices also ok lah..

hey guys.. just would like to check,
if from HK, to go shen zhen, how much would it cost to apply the visa there? and wat's d procedure?

thanks
*
I checked at Dragon Hostel where I stayed before. They provide Visa application service. For China Visa, single entry, same day collection (submit before 8.30am, collect at 2pm, or submit before 12 noon, collect at 7pm) the fee is HKD330. For next day collection (submit before 12noon, collect next day 1pm, or submit after 12 noon, collect next day 7pm), the fee is HKD280. Just need a passport size photo, and passport with at least 6 months validity.

This is definately NOT CHEAP. Better apply here in M'sia. I'm not from KL, so I applied thru travel agent from home, cost me RM$50.

If confirm going, get the Visa from M'sia.

If not sure going or not, also can get the Visa first, is valid for 3 months until you utilised the single entry. After 3 months if you never go to China at all, then consider wasted lor...

Hi,

Would like to ask those who have stayed in Dragon Hostel. Do they provide towels in the room?

Thanks.
*
Towels are provided, not in the room, have to collect from the office, self service. Used towels, if you want to change, just throw them into the laundry basket provided in the "apartment unit".

In addtition, shampoo and liquid soap are provided in the bathroom, in the wall dispensers.

hi all, i browse thru Hotel.com to find a room and i found
Dorsett Seaview Hotel, Mong Kok, Hong Kong
for standard room, discout till RM170 .. so cheap
but when i search in their official website dont hv the promotion
*
Grab it at Hotel.com

Or

E-mail to the hotel and ask for that price, try your luck.

(3 days ago, another hotel booking site quoted Traders KL for USD 39, turn out it was a mistake by Traders, but Traders honored all the bookings)

Too late, gone! They've realised their mistake. It was on 5th Oct.

So, now for the above mentioned Dorsett Seaview, who knows could also be a "mistake"? After reading, I also checked on hotels.com, from USD 43-59, very good price for HK hotel ah...

Ha ha, ya, "kayak", not "canoe"... it's a US based travel search engine, use it to search for cheapest flight, cruise, car rental, hotel etc, but not booking from there.

Hi,

rclxub.gif
Planning to visit HK, just saw Malaysian Airline promotion fair in Dec'2009 RM2900 for 2 adult and 2 childs.

Thinking to go 12/14th Dec and back on 20th Dec'2009.

Need expert advice on following: icon_question.gif

Book hotel from KL or go their and Book.  Search online and Book from home, either book thru hotel booking site or direct with the hotel
Take tour package like 5d/4n or so on or book only hotel and roam around.  No need to join local tour, HK is easy to get around
can i go shezan and maccu and other cities as well via train  Shenzen by train, M'sian need China Visa, pre obtain here, Macau go by ferry
Which place should i visit other then Disneyland. Ocean Park and many others, refer to HK tourism board web -discoverhongkong.com
Shopping for kids and my t-shirt/shoes/watches cheap there? Depends, cheap if got sales, lots of factory outlets in HK, other cheap stuff, fake/imitation stuff at Ladies street, macam Petaling Street
Can easily find Halal Food......! Check this site for halal restaurant: http://www.islam.org.hk/eng/  Might have problem at Disneyland due to no outside food policy
Any other suggesion  Read through the pages in this forum (",)

Really a big thanks..... You are welcome....
Thank you  rclxms.gif

I didn't know that's a dolphin village near the area. Will definitely check on that. Yes Citygate I guess will be spending half a day there after visiting the Big Buddha.

Yea I managed to check on the museum but only some have given informations on the free visit but will definitely visit the museums to know more on HK culture.

I am lucky cause now I still have 1 month to plan. Still browsing around for alternative and on food wise we are planning to eat at random place. Too much planning might end up in a disappointment too.So we are just going on the flow but the major attractions we are planning accordingly cause hope not to meet up with the crowds during the weekends.
*
Hi Kylie,

I've not heard of Dolphin Village. But over at Lantau Island, there's this fishing village called Tai O. At Tai O, there are many boatman who approach tourists/visitors for a short boat trip out to the sea to spot Dolphin, arount HKD 20/pax for about 30mins. Tai O is popular among the Hong Kongers too. Many stalls selling dry goods like salted fish, dried scallop, dried shrimp etc. And there are fresh seafood there. Some visitors go there after Big Buddha to have lunch. Famous snack at Tai O is "char kuo"- a type of kueh. Got one particular house, very popular, need to pre-order.

Tai O can be reached from Ngong Ping Village, by New Lantau Bus No. 21, bus fare was HKD 6.60 on weekday(I went in March).

As for museum, Museum of Coastal Defence, at Shau Kei Wan, free admission on Wednesday. After visiting the museum, can take the tram, aka "ting ting", from the terminal (sit in front on upper deck for views), all the way to either Wan Chai or Central. "ting ting" per trip HKD 2 only, even if you take from one end to the other end, pay when you alight, can be paid by Octopus card. Or after the museum, can go shopping at the nearby Causeway Bay.

Check these links:

for food (in Chinese) - www.openrice.com

Happy Planning!

i'm going the hk from 10th-14th nov..

i saw from internet that there is FREE AIRPORT EXPRESS SHUTTLE BUS..
has anyone ride the bus before??
any idea??
i found from this webpage
http://www.hongkongextras.com/to_fromairport.html

and i will stay at dragon hostel..
which bus should i take??  icon_question.gif
*
That "free shuttle" bus is for shuttling to/from Airport Express train station nia, which means you'll need to take the Airport Express, ie the express train. That also servicing major hotels nia la..

Arrive HKIA, walk out from arrival hall, turn to your right, the bus stops are there. Take bus A21, HKD 33 to Dragon Hostel, alight at the no. 6th stop - Mongkok MTR station. Check dragon hostel website for map and direction. You may call up DH to fetch you from the bus stop.

Ami Tsun, did you ever noticed a counter B01 (next to Octopus card counter) that offers shuttle services to major hotels? We took the shuttle bus from there to Marco Polo Hotel (even though we're not actually staying at Marco Polo  tongue.gif ) We didn't pay a cent for it but then it might because it's included in our package.

Now my friend is asking me whether it's free or need to pay. Any idea?
*
Were you asked to produce any tickets when boarding the bus? I've not heard of free ride from airport to town le.. I only know if you take the Express train then there's free shuttle service from Kowloon Train Station to major hotel. Or for those going to the airport, free shuttle pick up from major hotels to the train station to catch the express train.

Guys I'm going to HK next March 2010. I got a free tour guide because I'm going with a friend that been there before. But the problem is, the hotel there so expensive. We have 4 people (but we plan to rent 1 room that is standard with 2 bed). Any idea of any good hotel? Budget is around $HK2000-3000 for 4 nights. But of coz cheaper is better + good to live xD
*
Stay at hostel la.. One room with 2 double decker bed and attached bathroom, around HKD 400 per night. HK hotel, if cheap budget one, the room is so small, can not accommodate 4 pax.

i had some problems due to plan my itinerary as this is my first time going to there..

Have lunch at Mongkok
Go to Langham Shopping Mall
The Peak in the evening

Go to Fa Yuen Street

Day 3

Tung Chung Citygate Outlet
Stanley
Ladies Street

Lan Kwai Fong

Day 5
Walk and shop around-Temple street
Plane depart at 8.30pm

i'll arrive at HKIA at around 10.30am.
but, my check in time to Dragon Hostel is 2pm..
it is possible if i went to Ngo Ping 360 once i arrive (before the time i check in)
because i worry it will be too rush for me go to stanley after ngo ping and tung chung citigate outlet
and that i have lesser time to shop..tongue.gif
please help...
thank you!!! icon_question.gif
*
No problem check in early if the room is ready (b4 2pm). Or you can leave your luggage and go for lunch first. I suggest go to Stanley (instead of Langham Place) before The Peak. Both Stanley and The Peak on the HK Island side, and from Stanley can take bus no 6C, alight at bus stop near Garden Road.

Since Langham Place is so near to Dragon Hostel, can go there may be on Day 3 - either b4 NP/Tung Chung or after.

thank you for the reply...
but actually, if i go to ngo ping360 before check in, do i have enough of time??
and, i had checked the weather is not really cold right now..
do u have any idea that it is hk will be very cold durin nov??

*
Cold weather, but not the coldest (as in Jan/Feb). I would prepare "layered clothes". Weather changes through out the day, can also be windy.

NP360 is the "name" of cable car, to go up to Ngong Ping Village, and see the Big Buddha. Yes, you can go there on arrival, take bus no S1 or S56 from airport to Tung Chung Station, HKD 3.50. I remember reading about lockers for luggage storage at Tung Chung (can't remember details, pls search yourself if required).

Do you mean if you have time to visit NP before check in? Are you planning to go to see the Big Buddha, follow by shopping at Citygate Mall? If so, check in can be after 2pm, just let Stanley Fan knows what time to expect you(to keep the room for you).

One suggestion re visiting Ocean Park and Golden Bauhinia Sq:
I would go to Golden Bauhina Sq in the morning, follow by Ocean Park. From Dragon Hostel, take any bus that heads to TST ferry terminal(as display on bus) at bus stop along Nathan Road. (may also visit AOS, just next to ferry terminal). Take the star ferry to Wan Chai Ferry terminal, it's a short walk to the Golden Bauhinia sq. After that, can take bus to Ocean Park.

IMO, why go from Disneyland to AOS and trying to catch the Symphony of Light show? Do stay at Disneyland and enjoy the fireworks!
