On 23 June 2023, the Government of Malaysia announced a total subsidy allocation of RM5.2 billion for the next ICPT implementation period from 1 July 2023 until 31 December 2023 to protect ~99% of TNB customers in Peninsular Malaysia from the impact of higher fuel costs which accounts for 65% of the electricity bill.

In your electricity bill, ICPT is a mechanism that is approved by the Government and implemented since 2014 to reflect changes in the cost of electricity generation, specifically fuel costs every six (6) months. For your reference, the electricity tariff schedule in Peninsular Malaysia is unchanged since 2014.

Concurrently, the Government of Malaysia has also decided to introduce targeted subsidy scheme for ICPT implementation period from 1 July 2023 until 31 December 2023. With the implementation of the targeted subsidy scheme:

~99% of residential customers under Tariff A with a total monthly consumption of 1,500 kWh and below will continue to enjoy RM0.02/kWh ICPT rebate.

For residential customers under Tariff A with a total monthly consumption exceeding 1,500 kWh, ICPT surcharge rate of RM0.10/kWh will be applicable.

ICPT surcharge rate of RM0.037/kWh for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Specific Agriculture customers under Tariff B, D, H, H1 & H2 remains unchanged. Water and sewerage operators will also be charged at this rate (as compared to RM0.20/kWh in the ICPT period from 1 January 2023 to 30 June 2023).

ICPT surcharge rate for other Commercial and Industrial customers (Non-MSMEs) is reduced to RM0.17/kWh (as compared to RM0.20/kWh in the ICPT period from 1 January 2023 to 30 June 2023).

The ICPT rates for the period of six (6) months from 1 July 2023 to 31 December 2023 according to customer categories and tariff type are as follows:

Not only you have to pay for streetlight that was supposed to e funded by taxpayer's money, you also have to pay extra non-residental rate surcharge on top of rm10 monthly charges.

Do folks know how much it was before 1st January 2023?
It was the same as commercial B1s at 0.037

That's why many of the big factories scrambled for solar since last year. Their electricity bill potentially could have doubled. This was how govt "removed" subsidies for MNCs. But the catch was it already done earlier while many were thinking it was yet to come

I just received mine as well. Current usage fluctuates between 4.5-6k a month.

Tnb earned massive and record profits last year. They are doing very well. Why the hell the need for an increase?

That profit they earned is ours. They should slash their profit to maintain tariff rate. What a silly move

iinm TNB profit 1 billion, but govt subsidies is easily 5-6 billions. Meaning without subsidies, TNB would be making billions of losses if charged at current rate.

This is what you get when you public list TNB. So they have to answer to investors. Who's bright idea was it to public list TNB?

Remove subsidies.

Let the market feel it & they will regulate themselves.

Profit.

But Malaysians sure love their subsidies

no la

it means TNB will profit 1b with or without the subsidies.

without subsidies,
govt saves 5-6b
consumers pay extra 5-6b
nothing changes for tnb

edit: I get what you mean, but tnb will just charge full rate without the subsidies.
