On a related matter, Ling said the Health Ministry would forward the working paper for Hospital Sultanah Aminah 2 (HSA 2) to the public-private partnership unit (UKAS) before submitting it to the Cabinet.

He said this step was necessary for the Federal government to proceed with the construction of HSA 2 in Skudai,Johor Bahru.



"Previously, the land issue, site identification, and preliminary works for HSA 2 have been completed.


HSA 2 will be built on a 28.33ha (70 acres) land provided by the Defence Ministry from a 202.34ha site, making it the largest hospital in Johor.

"Several technical workshops and discussions on the hospital’s requirements have also been conducted to avoid any overlap,” he said.

Ling has stated that the construction of HSA 2 is expected to help ease congestion at Johor Baru’s two existing hospitals —

Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) and Hospital Sultan Ismail (HSI).

The Johor government has designated HSA 2 as a state priority project.

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Discussion is ongoing between the Health Ministry and the Defence Ministry with regard to a piece of land in Skudai where the proposed Hospital Sultanah Aminah 2 (HSA 2) is expected to be built.

State health and unity committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said that this was because the land that had been identified as a suitable location for the hospital was owned by the Defence Ministry.

"Recently, we (the state government) met with the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) and this was among issues that we highlighted to him.

"We faced some difficulties with regard to the land matter previously and have asked the Health Ministry to carry out discussions with the land owner (Defence Ministry). Talks are currently ongoing between the two ministries.

"Once the land matter has been resolved, we can proceed to apply to get an allocation for the construction of the hospital," he said in a press conference after the state assembly sitting here.

Ling said this when asked about the progress of the plan for the construction of HSA 2, which was previously proposed to be built in Kempas.

In August last year, former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that the new hospital was expected to reduce the load at the two main hospitals in Johor Baru, Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) and Hospital Sultan Ismail (HSI).

Hospital Sultan Ismail with an area of 50 acres has a 6 storey clinical block, 10-storey ward block and residential quarters.



Hospital Sultan Ismail is equipped with 22 wards, 18 operating theater, including five theater for ‘day care’ services, 2 theater in the Emergency Department. The hospital is equipped with 704 beds. There are 4 Class A Wards and 18 Class Two and Three Wards.


In addition, a total of 88 beds are provided in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Neonatal ICU (NICU), Burns Unit and High Dependency Ward specifically for intensive treatment.





On a separate matter, Ling said that the two wards in HSI that had been closed since the Covid-19 pandemic had reopened since Wednesday (June 14).

He said that the two wards, which could accommodate a maximum of 54 beds each once, were now operating with 20 beds each for the time being.

"The two wards were forced to close temporarily because of a lack of manpower. The Health Ministry has recently deployed a total of 35 nurses to Johor, who are all being posted to HSI.

"This allowed the hospital to reopen the two wards. As a start, each ward will have 20 beds as the new nurses will need time to get used to the system in the hospital. The wards will operate fully in stages," he said.

BTW this land is supposedly the army camp that was supposed to be built some 20 years ago.

lim kit siang always keep reminding the preevious govts. about this issue (the unbuilt army camp that was supposed to replace the old majidee camp, now majidee camp become midvalley JB).

the land is just after taman nesa and before the mutiara rini precinct 1 if you use the old gelang patah road on the way to the JDT stadium.

also bordering taman desa skudai on the other side.

The prob:

Ministry of Defence also starting 2024 will tender the new army camp at that land. Kem Skudai. rm400mil++ already approved during last year budget to build the camp on this land. And another RM600mil++ expected to be approved in 2-3 years time for the Army Quarter's Housing.

The army camp & the hospital will share the same land. Mindef already set the portion for KKM. But KKM/state not agree with the portion that Mindef propose.

(New Minister & new Agong will be a big influnce on this decision later)

The contractor failed to finished the project, started on year 2000. Abandon after 18% progress. 2018 finally Govt win the case at Federal Court and contractor need to pay rm200mil++ to govt for the failure. After that case settled, Mindef bid for budget to restart the project. Only this year budget finally it was approved.

Ministry of Defence also starting 2024 will tender the new army camp at that land. Kem Skudai. rm400mil++ already approved during last year budget to build the camp on this land. And another RM600mil++ expected to be approved in 2-3 years time for the Army Quarter's Housing.

Yup, approved budget already. Now still on early pre-development stage within mindef and jkr as the project SO. Usually will take 8-12 months before officially tendered. Plus with this land issue with KKM some more. Expected this issue will delay the project.

I dont really understand what do you mean by geran already transfer. That federal govt own land still under the name of Federal Land Commissioner (PTP) and until now still with status for military use.

After Skudai Parade, right?
Every day from 6 pm to 7 pm, it's usually like that.


The jam normally is beside the very old double-storey shophouse.My friend works at Taman Impian Emas and uses the Skudai road every day.




If they really want to build this new hospital in Kampung Poh Chee Leng area, later, this Skudai highway will likely have a U-turn (only for ambulances to use).

HSA danga bay also have a U-turn for ambulance.

And maybe later, the police station will also use it.

Nice. I think tun aminah people deserve it

The surrounding area of Kampung Poh Chee Leng already experiences frequent traffic jams, especially near the old MBIP building (Skudai Parade Mall).


If a hospital is indeed built there, Jalan Skudai from 6 pm to 7 pm could experience traffic congestion similar to Kuala Lumpur's Bukit Bintang area.

GG. We need MRR3 on top of Skudai flyover.

Same time now HSA 2 skudai is approved.

Should have built it near Sultan Ibrahim stadium which has lots of parking n can be accessed by Pontian, Kulai, Senai & BP residents. More efficient road network too as it is beside a 2nd link interchange. Land cost could be higher since it is private land.

Agree. Should be located near gelang patah so that people from Pontian can benefit it.

Better built 1 hospital at pontian or pekan nanas also

already got Hospital Pontian.......

But there aren't enough beds, right? They should consider an expansion.

I think HSA 2 could be built in the Setia Eco Garden area. There's a lot of land available there, and they could add plenty of parking spaces.

Maybe this time, shop businesses will do well?

The chosen location for the new government hospital in Skudai is a forest, and it is near Taman Universiti.



I hope they will build a huge multi-storey car park and a new public bus terminal beside the hospital as well (since the area is currently a large forest, they could make use of the land) for the vehicles of Malaysian workers who leave their cars at Taman Tun Aminah, Taman Bukit Indah, Taman Selesa Jaya, and Taman Nusa Bestari (or other Taman ) shoplot area to commute to Singapore.

Many shoplot owners say there is no business because the car parks outside the shoplots are always full, but not with customer parking.

Those who work in Singapore but live in JB, particularly in the Taman area, always park their cars there and take either a factory shuttle or public bus to JB Sentral and Singapore. The cars are parked outside the shoplots from 5 AM until 10 PM.

nope. they decide not to build it here, it is still army camp reserve land

it's either this plot or the one opposite it.

both are federal land reserve, meant for UTM (kementerian pengajian tinggi) but can be easily converted to KKM ownership.

both also facing the skudai pontian highway and nearer to the impian emas interchange

new requirement is for the hospital to be located nearer to the main road (highway) and must not be inside a taman.

so the army reserve land is no longer suitable.

So, did he announce something that has not yet been confirmed by Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia?


Last year, they wanted to build it near Kampung Poh Chee Leng (the old MBJBT building area).

Actually, it is the same piece of land, just in a different direction.

Wow UTM got so much land. If only they know how to monetised it n use the proceeds to replace their existing rundown buildings & facilities. They should make it convenient for students rather then looking beautiful n very sparse.
