Anyone here using banking apps on your old Android phone but locked out because not allowed to update your apps anymore because you don't have Android 10 above?

To name a few:

PB Engage
UOB TMRW
CIMB Clicks

All cannot access anymore but funny thing is that their Singapore version all still supports Android 8/9.

Why the banks making it so inconvenient to their users? You say security then why their Singaporean branches overseas still adopt older versions and still consider their app safe?

Not all Malaysians can afford to change phones all the time and what is wrong with supporting older Android 8/9? You expect people just to change phones and accommodate your demands?

We are customers you serve us, why already did away with SMS TACs with Secure OTC not enough?

Who is the developer who suggested this silly idea to the banks? Even Singaporean banks also still support older Android version and consider their apps safe.

I'm not blaming others, it outright unnecessary and unthoughtful of the banks to catch their customers by surprise.

The banks too much money want to giveout token generators to all their customers?

I got no problem with the requirement since all my phones already on Android 10 and above.

My last phone Android 8 was the Moto Z2 and already retired last year due to battery bloat. Ain't gonna spend money to replace the battery. Another is the Galaxy Note FE. Still working but I use it exclusively for Chromecast.

For banking, I used the OnePlus 7 Pro which already updated to Android 12. Will use it for many years to come.

Next phone I'm eyeing will be the Nothing Phone 1. Still no used one in the market.

Reinstall apps on the new phone is no biggie. Android allows migration from one phone to another easily. Only need to reauthorize back. So, unless u don't keep your passwords offline like I do, it is time to do it.

When I migrated from OnePlus 5 to OnePlus 7 Pro, it took me 2 hours to migrate all the apps over and another 30 mins to reauthorize all the banking and wallet apps back. Both phones were of 256GB variety and already 60% full.

Me also about to tukar my old backup phone (Huawei Mate 20 X, the China edition superduper big punya) to Nothing 1 12gb 256gb.

If I were PB I would probably consider demanding a detailed query on the app developer which is handling their app or even consider terminating their service.

Worst in place of their customer service the app developer even dared to do damage PR for them by telling off their customers and insult them on public space.

Also this needs to open a serious query on BNM by the banks on their decision to introduce such requirements without proper auditing and proper measures before setting such rules.

This is more sensible way to do it. I am a tech savvy person myself but I no longer keep my phone android version in my brain. Pushing major app update on weekend which rendered ~10% user appless is pretty idiotic.
Footnote: PB engage is really crappy app. It's UI and navigation is Lucky no savings account with them. Gonna make full use of the PB CC cashback and pay on time. so that they will not earn any cent from me.

Seriously after Teh Hong Piow departure, the bank is really going down with whoever that is taking over.

My 2019 era CCP last version (before trade war) Mi 9 that can install Google Play from Mi Store is using Android 11 (original CCP ROM).

8 / 9 must be at least 6 ~ 7 years old already.
