Anyone here using banking apps on your old Android phone but locked out because not allowed to update your apps anymore because you don't have Android 10 above?

To name a few:

PB Engage
UOB TMRW
CIMB Clicks

All cannot access anymore but funny thing is that their Singapore version all still supports Android 8/9.

Why the banks making it so inconvenient to their users? You say security then why their Singaporean branches overseas still adopt older versions and still consider their app safe?

Not all Malaysians can afford to change phones all the time and what is wrong with supporting older Android 8/9? You expect people just to change phones and accommodate your demands?

We are customers you serve us, why already did away with SMS TACs with Secure OTC not enough?

Who is the developer who suggested this silly idea to the banks? Even Singaporean banks also still support older Android version and consider their apps safe.

They are counting on Malaysians being stupid. Malaysians never protest about anything. All just follow only.

And they know how Malaysians keep buying new phones.

The whole problem is the thinking.

Just because SG hasn't implemented does not mean we made a bad move.
This measure is from BNM, so all MY banks are in the midst of complying.

And this is one area BNM is ahead of MAS in implementing. If we are behind SG, always kena complain. In the things we are ahead of SG, also kena criticise.

At the end of the day, is a good measure to protect all consumers. Change with the times.
Face it. Your OS is obsolete and needs to be upgraded as a security measure.

As long as got enough people like you, that's why they can keep doing all this. No offense.

It's not just Singapore. Many other countries the same bank doesn't do this.

I can go to Google Play on my very "ancient" phone and search for this or that bank app. Works in many countries. Just not Malaysia.

that doesn't mean other countries are more superior, there's a thing you need to consider, how prevalent e-wallet usage is in those countries when compared to here?

BNM is merely trying to minimise the chance of consumers getting cyber-scammed whatsoever here

One foreign bank with a "good reputation" allows their app to be used even on VERY ancient phones in India, and China.

But not in Malaysia.

lmao, not sure you're being delusional or what, almost every neighbouring country is talking about how vulnerable SMS OTP is and how online banking fraud is getting concerning right now

and this push notification is not even a new thing, MBB has already introduced it like 3 years ago, it's just other banks refusing to make the changes until the very last minute

My phone is VERY old, you would be very horrified to learn what model it is. But some local banks still make their app compatible with my phone.

For those that don't, they are basically telling you to go fly kite. They will transfer their developer "cost" to you, the consumer. dry.gif

Funny again that this is pushed to a poor 3rd world country first to force its less educated citizens to change phones out of planned obsolescence instead of developed countries.

If I'm MACC start opening up questions on this developer who introduced this idea to BNM and Malaysian banks.

You have many Malaysians defending those banks instead. laugh.gif doh.gif

Android 6.

Got a few local banks are considerate enough to make their app still usable.

The majority though, tell their customers to go fly kite. They don't dare to do this in other countries....

And Malaysians defend the banks pulak.

Malaysians are really good consumer sheeple.

Banks refuse to spend any money on Malaysian customers and instead get the Malaysian customer to spend at least few hundred MYR to get new phone. Every couple of years.

And these banks suddenly became more understanding if they are in different country, becos they suddenly seem to get it that in other countries, many people are using old phones. So they order their developer to make a compatible app.

All the other major banks like Tiger Bank, Sotong Bank, Affin Bank, MBSB, HLB and even OCBC Malaysia all still available and usable on poorfag old Android phone.

PB got played out by the gang by being the 1st black sheep?

PBB not the only one. MOST of them cannot use on old Android phone.

I am benchmarking with Android 6 wink.gif

By the way, for foreign banks, Huawei phones cannot use, even if new..... wink.gif
