Planning to get a modem too

I also own POCO F3,before purchase the modem,I use phone to test。Both the result about the same.btw,my 5G signal not strong,3 bar only,I think this is why it cannot go beyond 600mbps.

Mine too 3 bar only. But this evening for a short time i got 4 bar, immediately test and got around 600mbps below..

So the modem is good yeah?
*
So far OK all,not undergo extensive test yet. I need 1-2 weeks to check if is stable. Also need to explore the configurations, but a quick glance when I changed the default password, looks like it provide lock band feature and support zerotier。

The UI also provide functionality to change IMEI and TTY。

Most expensive I spend on router/wifi was RM400+ that was before YB Gobind era & last year RM500+ to mesh the whole office.

True, currently all 5G modem router are expensive. This was why I bought from Taobao.

More updates on this 5G CPE I bought from Taobao directly:
1. Form the IMEI check, the modem modules is QUECTEL RM520N-GL. GL means global version, cover mostly all the 5G/4G bands. From another forum somebody slot this module into Mikrotik router and it works fine with Router OS.
3. The SOC part of this modem is from MediaTek
4. The brand is WEYCH or in Chinese 小曼联网 (From box packaging)

Those Rm200 modded modem can use or not?
*
Can, it will operate as normal 4G modem (cannot get 5G). The 5G modem module very expensive, try to search this QUECTEL RM520N-GL,almost RM800+ one piece。This is why most True 5G CPE costs more than RM1K。

4G modem module has a lot variant,eg CAT2, CAT4, CAT6, 20 and etc, cheaper a bit。The cheapest is those that not support carrier aggregation。The one that support only2 CA,already cost over RM500+.

This I cannot tell. But if you can get the IMEI number of the CPE , you can check it through this site https://www.imei.info. Or request the seller to check for you.

Yes, seller is the same. I did post a review there. brows.gif Nick name is 潘大侠 brows.gif I choose this because it has newer Qualcomm X62 modem (I do not want X55 modem which is also from Qualcomm; if not mistaken, the CPE recommended by Umobile is using X55 modem)
Btw, there are 2 designs, one is square and one is round. I bought round one where top surface contains 5G led logo.

Band information related to Malaysia Telcos --> https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency-checker/MY
My area Umobile 5G is using N78 band.

Thanks. Can this CPE be modded by ourselves?
*
If the mod you refer to -> change TTL and change IMEI
Answer: maybe yes

I do notice the CPE setup has these 2 facilities (I did not try as my Umobile SIM is Umobile 5G broadband):
1) Enable/Disable TTL and input TTL number. This one easy enable it and put in a number, you are done rclxm9.gif
2) A window to input modem AT commands and A window for IMEI revise. This one is challenging rclxub.gif you need to know the correct AT command to do so. devil.gif The AT command can reference to https://www.hitoha.moe/change-4g-mikrotik-imei/ because I know Mikrotik 4G/5G device using modem module from QUECTEL

Later I capture the screen and attach here.

More info for carrier aggregation: https://cacombos.com/ (read the FAQ, very good explanation)

Hm very weird, looking at everyone's experience here, all the 5G bands that are in use locally in MY is n78, however my S21 5G from AT&T unlocked can never get a lock onto the local 5G band even when I'm in area that's covered by DNB's infra.

But in lion city with Singtel 5G, I get full 5G lock NR n78 on the whole island

Wanted to test with yoodo but it doesn't even get 5G at all despite it using the same n78 band with Singtel 5G (Checked on my Oppo Reno 5 5G that has another Yoodo 5G enabled SIM)

Might have to eventually invest in a Nighthawk from maybe eBay so I can get faster 5G speeds on the go in MY rclxub.gif
*
Try lock band as shown below. With the below I can force connect 5G consistently even signal is weak and it will not fall over to 4G.

The 5G CPE I bought from 'Taobao' not hot liked what you stated; touch on the casing, feel warm only.
Btw, I power daily starting 7.00am and power off at around 10.30pm. About 1 weeks plus it operated that way.

multiple nr-ca for future proof.

else mediatek T750 platform based good enough.

I think those 5G CPEs using Qualcomm X62, X65 or X70 (too new, might not exist in current market available CPE yet) RF module support NR-CA ( https://www.quectel.com/news-and-pr/quectel...pp-r16-standard ). Btw, all three, e.g. X62, X65 and X70 are manufactured using 4nm process, should more or less solve the heat problem (I hope).

Based on this website description -> https://www.3gpp.org/specifications-technol...ases/release-16 those 5G RF module that claimed support 3GPP release 16, should be NR-CA ready.
Example:
QUECTEL RM520N-GL (using Qualcomm X62 modem) NR-CA combination info https://forums.quectel.com/t/what-ca-combin...nd-rm520f/16714

From the explanation for NR-CA here -> https://www.rfwireless-world.com/5G/5G-NR-C...ion-basics.html It also depends on telco infrastructure whether it offer it or not, for Malaysia I think CA for 5G not so fast as the frequency range for 5G so limited.

Not sure other location, My location 4G on Band3, 5G only N28.
Test few modem, V12, B310, RS860 all 4G speed in 10-30Mbps for DL, UL about the same range, Test on IPTV not an issue.
AS 5G, only phone able to Log into 5G, at home getting ~ 400Mbps, outside open air 700++Mbps
*
If not mistaken RS860 and B310 are CAT4 modems, they do not support CA. If you can get CAT6 and above modem, the 4G DL/UL can double up. V12 what modem is it?
Some phone will indicate it is using CA by a plus beside 4G, e.g 4G+.

For 5G I do not know how to confirm it is using CA, anybody know?

Ada fan boleh jalan. Tak ada fan waiting to burn.

Let it run! Has 1-year warranty to claim incase break down. If it can run for 3 years, I think it is also time to buy new one with newer technologies, e.g. WIFI 7 or LIFI.
The one I bought from Taobao, run every day 16 hours. I shut down daily to get rid of radio wave at night for good sleep.

Btw, most chips are designed to operate below 100 Celsius without any issues. The drawback is throttling will happened if operation temperature exceeds 80 Celsius depending on the firmware implementation.

Do you use 5G solely as main internet source for your house? Or got fiber fixed line?

If you shut down the 5G router at night before sleep, then your CCTVs will not work? And other IoTs in your house?
*
I have Unifi fibre also as I want public IP as I host my own NAS。I use 5G for work from home activities as the upload performance way better than Unifi fibre, upload speed almost double ~50mbps vs ~100mbps。Plus this serve as my mobile internet when I work from my parent house in Penang (I stay at Kedah)

Cheaper Yes. Long run it will impact with battery life span. Cheaper 5g phone usually with USB2.0 connection for device tethering.
So, you max speed is bottleneck... unless market available with 5G dongle.  that much more cheaper soon...
*
originally I also had this idea to buy a cheap 5G phone and used as modem router。But after survey, the cheapest 5G phone costs around RM600。After some thoughts,I dropped the idea。

888 series got a trap which is 888s using unisoc
others 888 variant ok
*
If not mistaken the other variant of 888 is using Qualcomm X62 modem.

5G CPE that using Qualcomm X65 or X70 modem very hard to find (may be too expansive and not exists yet)

I also noticed from forum Qualcomm X55 modem had issue, what issue I not sure, may be too hot ?

cos inside my home location got ~1.5 bar signal level, not consistent, try use IV510 cpu modem hardly get the 5G signal!
if go outside home, constant 5G!
*
If your device permit lock band, try the below settings. Tick all 4G bands, and only 2 5G bands (which is the only 2 5G bands in Malaysia). Though 5G signal is low it will not fall back to 4G, at least this is my 5G CPE behavior.
But for weak 5G signal, if I only lock 1,3,5,7 and 8 bands for 4G, my 5G CPE will always connect to 4G, even 5G is enabled and lock.
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5388640/+79#

My area 5G signal is weak (same as you ~1.5 bar)
