For those planning to buy a 5G modem, the TP-Link Deco X50-5G will be a great choice and it's coming soon

I borrowed a unit from TP-Link to test and it's amazing. It's using Qualcomm 5G modem so performance is guaranteed.

They didnt' tell me the exact price but they said it's cheaper than those grey import sellers and you also get 3 years warranty.

Edit: I was wondering why it can sustain high speed continuously. Then I decided to open it and found a fan inside.

can lock band?  hmm.gif

Yes can, unlike the Huawei old school lock band, it's better too

It will scan what bands are available at your area and let you to choose the CA combo

Edit: I didn't show 5G as 5G only got 1 band for now tongue.gif

is this better than yoodoo ? in terms of 4g ?
*
Yoodo is riding on Celcom's network and soon it will be combination of Celcom + DiGi

Umobile 4G is far worst than CelcomDiGi network

The appeal of this plan is probably the cheapest entry to DNB's 5G for now

120mbps is good enough for me, upgrading from sheety maxsheet 4g that barely hit 20mbps

The next problem need to solve is how to bypass torrent block.
My maxsheet 4g no restriction on torrent.

Will monitor this setup for few weeks see will meletup or not.
Else just fork out monies for tp link x50 5g habis cerita.

Siram…

You will get better performance on a newer ASUS router

The AC68U USB performance is kinda poor.

But… at the cost of buying a new ASUS router, you can get a proper 5G modem router. Might as well keep it

deswai i ask him to try to use ethernet tethering with a dongle (if his phone support this feature)

he is now using wifi hotspot gonna generate damn lot of heat for the phone
just follow exactly what the video shown then could get u ahem warp+ and use on wireguard client.
*
He’s using USB Tethering to the ASUS router to work as WiFi router so the heat won’t be so bad on the phone

But older ASUS routers don’t have a fast USB port, AC68U is like a 10 years old model now

Still receiving frequent firmware updates tho, got to give credit when it’s due

yes, ethernet tethering should be able to fetch him around 300mbps because his usb tethering direct to laptop gives him 320mbps.
300mbps is better than his current 120mbps
u double check again his usb tethering to asus router only fetch him 12mbps. deswai he is using wifi hotspot and asus router as repeater or media bridge.

Alright guys, my TP link x50-5G just arrived and immediately I setup with the U Mobile Home 5G sim.

It takes nano sim and just insert at the bottom.

As my apartment is at hilly area, facing the hill. The best 5G reception is at my living room near balcony.

You can see I got 3 bars of 5G reception.

The speed test speed was around download 200 Mbps and upload 10 Mbps.

Very quiet, no fan whining. I got the firmware update notice after I just completed setting up using the Deco app.

That's quite a decent speed for that signal.

I wish TP-Link will let us to boost the fan speed as I find the default fan curve is too conservative.

When the device is just powered on, the fan will run at max RPM for a few seconds before the silent fan profile kicks in.

Anyways, may I know what's the speed you got on your 5G phone? For my case, the Deco X50-5G performs better than my iPhone 12 Pro.

I suppose newer phones with better Qualcomm 5G modem should perform better.

PSA: The Deco X50-5G comes with Snapdragon X62. I have a short review here if anyone is interested.

does it have bridge mode (ip passthrough mode)? able to passthrough using the 2.5g port?
*
Nope, it will always be routed through Deco.

However, it can function as a Unifi router and use 5G as backup.

Difference between Deco X50-5G and NX510V is mainly on user experience. For some reasons, TP-Link always maintain 2 product lineup for their networking gear.

Deco lineup is more app centric, simpler with less configurations exposed to users. IMO, the user experience is actually pretty decent these days

The NX510V is from their router lineup so it has a relied on the web interface for config. It has a ton of settings exposed to the users and it has VoLTE as well.

Guys any recommendation on external SMA antenna to use with Tplink NX510v to maybe boost the 5G signal?
I won't say the signal nowadays is bad but i do notice the speed are kinda stuck at around 350mbps coming from around 600mbps when i 1st used it  hmm.gif  hmm.gif

Would anything like this helps? Or are these kind of antenna is just a waste of money?

What's your signal?

If you're getting similar signal quality as before and your speed dropped, it's probably due to the cell tower getting more congested

Stronger antenna won't give your higher priority though

For those using  this  Home 5G plan, are  you  able  to host a webserver,  and is it double NAT?
*
All consumer 4G / 5G Internet is private IP (CGNAT) in Malaysia

You couldn't host any server

Used to be able to request for public IP but it's not possible these days

Does anyone have any experience with using an Asus router as a repeater or access point for the MC888S router?

I've tried setting my AX55 up as a repeater for it, but it only works for about 3 minutes after being set up before devices connected to it stop being able to connect to the internet.

Additionally, the MC888S doesn't seem to be broadcasting in 5GHz at all
*
I think the better option is to just connect RT-AX55 to the modem using LAN cable and disable WiFi function on the 5G modem

The WiFi function on most 5G modem are pretty bad
