Hi all.
New to 5G broadband.

So i can subscribe to Uhome, and plug it into my 5G phone to test the network speed and coverage at my house before purchase the 5G modem, right?

And does 5G modem works like the usual fibre router, where there are 2.4 & 5.0ghz wifi, and ioT can connect to it?
I am considering the X50-5G or Nokia Fastmile based on what i read here.

For 5G modem, can it be turned on 24hours or need to switch it off at night when sleep?

Thanks
*
1. Yes, but because of different hardware / antennas / chipset / design, the performance/ speeds you get may differ between devices

2. It's just like a normal router, just with a 5g modem built in

3. Can, some models have built in Fan to keep themselves cool

Hello guys!

My maxis fibre has been down for three weeks so today I got a prepaid umobile card and upgraded it to the home fibre plan

It works okay, but it keeps dropping to 4G and not going to back 5g, no matter how many times I reset.

It goes to 5g randomly and stops a few minutes later

I’ve put the sim in a galaxy fold 4, connected to my ASUs router usb sharing

Even when disconnected from the router the 5g doesn’t last longer than 5 minutes

Anyone else having the same problem or know how to fix this issue?

When I for 5G NR only, it says no service
*
I'm not sure about Samsung but I've noticed on my Xiaomi, if you turn off the phone screen and put it into sleep, it likes to drop from 5G down to 4G
My guess it is to save battery

check in settings I suppose

Coming Soon, free with contract.

I wonder who are they rebranding
But AX1500 seems kinda...low?

Also odd of them to go with something else instead of their own recommendations of those few ZTE models

Price announcement in early March. 2 options.

Hmm so the 1st "cylindrical" design one is from Kaon Broadband
and the 2nd square one is from ZTE

not much info out there about the Kaon one, Kaon's own website doesnt have a list of products for 5g devices

The ZTE MC888S seems to be using a Unisoc chip according to
https://www.4gltemall.com/zte-mc888s.html

UNISOC UDX710 5G Modem
and
Qualcomm QCA8337 which some sites say its a "ethernet switch"

Hmm now Maxis also joins in, so all the big brands now have a home 5g plan, not as price competitive but could be considered

https://www.lowyat.net/2024/318232/maxis-in...ome-wifi-plans/

rm69 120gb
rm99 unlimited 100mbps
rm139 unlimited no cap

4g usage caped to 30gb
RM15 for 10GB extra data 4/5g
free what seems to be a zte 5g router if you opt for 24m contract on 99/139 plans

Honestly the rm99 plan could compete with home fiber if your area has no fiber but has 5g
100mbps is good enough for most and since you get an actually ok router with it that's some value there assuming you get to keep it after contract ends
It appears to be a ZTE MC801A based on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0WFiPT6KHA

It seems like you are also provided a pathway to upgrade to fiber

i got the ZTE...i think for now, they're giving everybody ZTE

lock band i think can but i've never tried
but it is telco lock and cannot change DNS due to that
*
Aw cant change DNS? that kinda sucks

I wonder if there is any hidden higher tier admin account not revealed to public yet, most ISPs love to have a higher tier account meant for technicians

I think you simply buy a normal sim
activate it
reload enough money for the plan
convert from app

So the KAON's housing is using similar design with Tenda's 5G modem?

Product page: Tenda 5G03
*
more like just rebranded it
the UI looks the same based on https://www.tendacn.com/download/detail-4606.html and screenshots posted here

now, is anyone brave enough to attempt flashing Tenda firwmare onto the Kaon tongue.gif
(try at own risk)

So I was browsing CeX Malaysia's website and noticed this router

https://my.webuy.com/product-detail?id=smobees5gunl
EE Smart 5G Indoor Wifi Router, Unlocked

From what I can find it is a rebranded Askey Smart 5G Hub HH20C
(Askey is related to Asus)

from what I can find scattered on forums, Carousell HK and aliexpress

it seems like it is a wifi6 (and possibly 6e?) 5g router, with 2x gigabit ethernet ports, no external antenna ports, has a fan inside, powered by 20V 65W USB-C
no idea on what soc is inside though
only concern I have is that it doesn't seem to support 4G Band28?
Is that mandatory for usage here? since for 5G bands it does support 28 and 78

otherwise it seems like it's a good deal for RM450

Is it telco lock ?
*
Possibly that ZTE or a Kaon FA7801

Both are locked to U Mobile with customized firmware

bro, what are you talking about? The ZTE came with Qualcomm chip
*
There is a slight confusion

The ZTE MC888 is powered by Qualcomm

The ZTE MC888s (keyword on the s) is powered by Unisoc

ZTE MU5120 portable 5G router

just realized that the ZTE MU5120 I gave to my wife is much, much more stable, never hang/auto reboot and just feels slight warm only even after use for nearly 8 hours or so. and it's ~1 year of ownership right now.

it uses Qualcomm Snapdragon X62 chip.  cool2.gif

Why ZTE uses the inferior IVY510 chip on the home/fixed 5G router such as MC888s?  doh.gif

$ is almost always the reason

also, to reply to post above, Mediatek also performs alright tbh in our DNB 5G Network

Is there any speed cap or FUP on this U HOME 68 plan?
I just got one last night and can't seem to get any good speed. Even my own phone 5G can get better speed.

did you take their modem? their provided modem is so so

Modem has imei as well? Hmm... then maybe they can do that as well but I wonder if they managed to incorporate it into the firmware. Unlike a phone with a huge memory storage, modems/routers usually has a pretty small ROM to store the software. Even when modders flashed custom rom, some hardware might not even be able to flash successfully due to the hardware limitation.
*
anything that connects to the telco networks has an IMEI

they can deny that imei from using their service
