Hi guys, im planning to do some simple plaster ceiling design with LED tracklight and LED downlight like the attached photo.
Just a question, if i just turn on the LED tracklight without the LED downlight, would it be bright enough to light up the space like how L Box lighting is bright enough without turning on the LED downlights?
Also, do I use LED strip for the tracklight? I cant seem to find different spec with brighter LED strips though. Or do they use like T8 instead of strips in the tracklight?

Thanks!

1. Depends on how bright do you want. Different people, different interpretation of the 'brightness'. No right/wrong answer.

2. LED strip for the tracklight? Can.

Im actually comparing to the brightness of L Box plaster ceiling design since i plan to do this design instead of L Box for easy maintenance.

LED strip can try look for COB strip with around 400 - 500+ LEDs. The more the better if you want brightness, and choose 4000k instead of 3000k

T5 tubes can work as well, and might be better maintanence wise

Got it, great! Thank you very much!
Can the T5 tubes to recessed into the plaster ceiling so that from the bottom it looks just flat?
Or there are some casing which can fit T5 tubes for this purpose?

If not mistaken, TS is not using magnetic track light but rather recessed aluminium profile.
These normally integrates LED strips which are not bright in nature, but are more for ambient lighting.

In my opinion, T5 cannot be fitted in ordinary aluminium profiles.

oh ya.. normally in TS picture, should use T5 instead of LED.. nowadays people like to use magnetic track or like your mentioned recessed aluminium profile either on ceiling/wall.. LED is cheap but the aluminium case & cover serve as diffuser at higher price ah.. =)

yup, im just using aluminium profile with high brightness COB LED Strip together with downlight&eyeball..
haven't completed my renovation yet though so cant really tell if the LED strip would be bright enough or not.. but i do have multiple eyeball to add brightness if i don't want to turn on the downlights

I'll leave an update here for anyone exploring this in the future.
LED strip used is SMD2835 120LED 24v with plaster ceiling aluminium profile.
The brightness is definitely sufficient, just the LED strip alone is brighter than my dowlight+eyeballs combined.
But please do note that if you want to use this set up, aluminium profile needs to be more than 1cm depth so that you don't get dark spots from the LED strip. Or else, you'd have to go with COB LED Strip which is lower in brightness but won't have any dark spots.

Any 1 can advise what's the average lifespan of these LED strip? Would it be a disaster, say if we are going to replace it in the future?

Nice job, living room? the reason you feel the strip is brighter because its more evenly distributed and diffused for the entire room.
When you purchase, the strip case should already be design for this use, usually is 1.2cmx.1.2cm and with wing to be installed to the plaster ceiling. COB LED will not have the dark spots, worth the upgrade.

LED strip have very long lifespan if the transformer is correct. Its important that you do not overload the strip to full power if you want longevity.
Usually is the transformer that only need replacement. In anycase, this strip can be replace as well if needed too.

Its only the case that is permenantly installed.

yup, living room and dining area, i chose 2835 120LED 24v with the deeper 1cm plaster ceiling aluminium profile as the LEDs are close enough to not show any dark spots, and since this is brighter than COB LED strip, i chose this instead to act/replace Lbox design plaster ceiling
