Austria rules out extraditing draft-eligible Ukrainian citizens

The Austrian government will not extradite draft-age Ukrainian men who entered the country following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Austria’s Internal Ministry said on Sept. 7. 👍

"We would never do that," Austrian news outlet Exxpress quotes a spokesman for the ministry.

"That would be a massive encroachment on our statehood, we would never do that. That would be an attempted intervention in our asylum system and in our statehood, Austria could not entertain that."

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg confirmed that the pieces found in Romania were from a Russian drone. Stoltenberg told EU lawmakers that there was no sign that Russia had launched a deliberate attack on Romania and that an investigation was underway. Romania, a member of the U.S.-led military alliance, informed its NATO allies of the discovery and said that it "demonstrates the risk of incidents and accidents."

MOSCOW, September 8. /TASS/. US entrepreneur Elon Musk said he had turned down Ukraine’s request to activate his Starlink system near the coast of Crimea, fearing that it may be used in Ukraine’s attack on Russian fleet.

"There was an emergency request from government authorities to activate Starlink all the way to Sevastopol," Musk wrote on X, a social network formerly known as Twitter. "If I had agreed to their request, then SpaceX would be explicitly complicit in a major act of war and conflict escalation."

CNN reported on Thursday with reference to Musk’s autobiography written by writer and journalist Walter Isaacson that the businessman had disconnected Ukraine from Starlink in 2022 to thwart a covert attack by the Ukrainian armed forces on the Russian fleet based in Crimea. CNN suggested that the decision was made for fears that Russia may use nuclear weapons to retaliate.

The United States reportedly thinks that Ukraine’s counteroffensive will stop in about 6-7 weeks. A report in The Economist states that "there are private disagreements over how much progress can be made in that time." Russian forces delivered a massive blow to Ukraine's counteroffensive in the last 24 hours, reportedly wiping out over 750 troops and foiling 29 counterattacks. The Russian defence ministry also released footage of its forces using Giatsint weapon to destroy West-supplied artillery. In another video, an intense trench battle in Kupyansk was caught on camera. The Russian defence ministry claimed that an advancing Ukrainian unit was neutralised during the battle. Russia also obliterated over 40 Ukrainian drones, 12 HIMARS projectiles and a JDAM bomb in the past day.

MOSCOW, September 8. /TASS/. Russian forces have destroyed two British-made Challenger tanks in the Zaporozhye Region with Kornet anti-tank missile systems, Yevgeny Balitsky, the region's acting governor, said on the TV channel Rossiya-24.

"Two rolled out. The Kornet was used against them. In principle the very first hit caused one to catch fire. In terms of armor, they (these tanks - TASS) have no special features. The Kornets coped with them easily. Our guys hit two tanks," he said.

Balitsky also noted that four Challengers were now near Stepnogorsk and two in Orekhov.

MOSCOW, September 8. /TASS/. Russian forces repelled five Ukrainian attacks in the Zaporozhye area over the past day, taking out about 40 enemy troops, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a daily bulletin of the special military operation.
Here are the details of this and other combat actions that happened over the past day, according to the bulletin.

Zaporozhye area

The five Ukrainian attacks that were repulsed in the Zaporozhye area came from Ukraine’s 82nd Air Assault Brigade near the settlement of Verbovoye. The Ukrainians lost "roughly 40 soldiers, a tank, two infantry fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, two US-made M777 artillery systems, a UK-made FH-70 howitzer and Msta-B, D-20 and D-30 howitzers, an Akatsiya self-propelled howitzer, a Grad multiple launch rocket system and a Bukovel-AD radar station."

Donetsk area

Russian forces repelled 12 attacks by Ukrainian armed forces and territorial defense units, including near Artyomovsk (also known as Bakhmut).

"Units of the battlegroup South, in cooperation with aviation and artillery, repelled 12 attacks of the Ukrainian 3rd Assault Brigade, 77th Airmobile Brigade, 110th Mechanized Brigades and 241st Territorial Defense Brigade near the settlements of Andreyevka, Artyomovsk, Orekhovo-Vasilyevka and Vesyoloye in the DPR. The enemy lost more than 215 Ukrainian servicemen," the ministry said.

Ukrainian forces also lost four automobiles, two US-made M777 artillery systems, a D-20 howitzer, a Rapira anti-tank cannon and a Bukovel-AD anti-drone electronic warfare station.

Russian forces near Avdeyevka destroyed a command and observation post of the Ukrainian 110th Mechanized Brigade.

"Near the settlement of Avdeyevka in the Donetsk People’s Republic, a command and observation post of the Ukrainian 110th Mechanized Brigade was destroyed," the ministry said.

Kupyansk area

Units of the battlegroup West improved positions on the frontline in the Kupyansk area, with the losses of the Ukrainian army estimated at up to 100 men.

"In the Kupyansk area, units of the battlegroup West conducted active operations to improve their frontline positions," the ministry said.

With support of aviation and artillery, three attacks by Ukraine’s 95th Airborne Assault Brigade were repelled near Novoyegovka in the Kharkov Region.

"The losses of the enemy were up to 100 men, two armored fighting vehicles, two motor vehicles, one US-made M777 artillery system and one Gvozdika self-propelled artillery piece," the ministry said.

Krasny Liman area

Russian forces destroyed forward command posts of two Ukrainian military brigades in the Donetsk People’s Republic.

"Near the settlement of Serebryanka in the Donetsk People’s Republic, forward command posts of the Ukrainian army’s 63rd mechanized brigade and 100th territorial defense brigade were destroyed," the ministry said.

Russian forces repulsed two Ukrainian attacks, destroying about 60 enemy troops.

"In the Krasny Liman area, units from the battlegroup Center operating jointly with aircraft and artillery repulsed two attacks by assault groups of the Ukrainian 63rd mechanized brigade near the settlement of Chervonaya Dibrova in the Lugansk People’s Republic," the ministry said.

The enemy lost up to 60 Ukrainian personnel, two infantry fighting vehicles and two motor vehicles, the ministry said.

South Donetsk area

Ukrainian forces lost up to 190 troops and a US-made М777 artillery unit in the south Donetsk area.

Units of the battlegroup East, air strikes and artillery fire repelled an attack by an assault group from the Ukrainian 38th Mechanized Brigade.

"The enemy lost up to 190 Ukrainian servicemen as killed and wounded, three armored fighting vehicles, four motor vehicles and a US-made M777 artillery system. In addition, a field ammunition depot of a Ukrainian military unit was destroyed near the settlement of Novodonetskoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic," the ministry said.

Kherson area

Russian forces eliminated over 25 Ukrainian servicemen and some military equipment.

"More than 25 Ukrainian servicemen, three automobiles and a Msta-B howitzer were eliminated," the ministry said.

Air defenses

Russian air defenses have intercepted four HIMARS rockets and destroyed 31 unmanned aerial vehicles of the Ukrainian armed forces.

"Air defenses intercepted four HIMARS rockets," the ministry said. "Also, 31 unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed in the areas of the settlements Nikolskoye, Klinovoye and Nikolayevka in the Donetsk People’s Republic; Ocheretovoye and Shirokoye in the Zaporozhye Region; and Kotlyarovka in the Kharkov Region."

Soledar direction: advance of the AFU near Kleshcheevka

In early September, Ukrainian formations, after a long lull, became more active in areas near Bakhmut, especially on the Ozaryanivka-Kleshcheevka line.

The situation is most strange south of Kleshcheevka, where the “fog of war” has formed. According to some data, the AFU were able to drive Russian troops out of Andreevka and approach the railway; according to others, the front line did not change during the week. In fact, the status of the settlement remains unknown.

In the area of Kleshcheevka itself, the Russian Armed Forces are launching attacks to regain previously lost positions. Russian troops are also conducting artillery strikes on identified targets, including with guided 152-mm Krasnopol ammunition, and Aerospace Forces aviation is hitting the front line.

At the same time, there is a movement of enemy troops to Konstantinovka: earlier foreign mercenaries were seen in the city, and a few days ago additional medical personnel arrived there. 🔻In the morning, Ukrainian formations again tried to advance in the Rabotino area with the support of armored vehicles. Russian troops repelled the attack, and according to Archangel Spetsnaz, (https://t.me/rusich_army/10762) the enemy lost one tank.

Rabotino itself remains in a no-man's-land: the enemy is not trying to gain a foothold there with large forces due to the fact that the settlement has been virtually demolished. Small groups of manpower entering there immediately come under artillery fire from the Russian Armed Forces.

🔻In the area of Verbovoye, the AFU of Ukraine are showing much more activity and are trying to wedge themselves into the defense in order to reach the village itself. Twice enemy infantry tried to approach Russian positions, but retreated under artillery attacks. The Russian Armed Forces are also supported by the Aerospace Forces aviation.

🔻Also on the front line were units of the 80th Air Assault Brigade brigade of the AFU, units of which arrived in the Zaporizhia direction back in mid-August. Apparently, they, together with the 71st Jaeger Brigade, will provide support to the 82nd Air Assault Brigade, which over the course of several weeks suffered significant losses in the battles near Verbove.

So far the Bandera regime has failed to control Robotyne and unable to advance to Verbove due to artillery shelling and attacks by aviation.
