Time to drop the old tech and move on ?

Let the old devices "as-it" (no more develop and update)
And only new devices will have new update ?
* You may have issue to buy / repair old devices.

Old tech may become legend skills but have no place to use.

The lyrics just came out :
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't kill the beast ...

ARM have made the decision few years ago. :

Future Arm mobile CPUs will drop 32-bit support, here's what that means

buying 32 bits devices / compatible devices should not be the issues.
just keep the 32 bits toolsets.
industries may not required 64 bits.

If drop 32-bit support, then all my Windows hobby projects cannot work anymore...... sad.
Only my Linux hobby projects are using x64 code.

Have to migrate my code from x86 to x64.
Good read: x64 calling convention ( https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/build...n?view=msvc-170 )

Doesn't AMD hold most of the patents for x86 64bit?

Licensing

x86-64/AMD64 was solely developed by AMD.
AMD holds patents on techniques used in AMD64;[119][120][121]
those patents must be licensed from AMD in order to implement AMD64.

Intel entered into a cross-licensing agreement with AMD,
licensing to AMD their patents on existing x86 techniques,
and licensing from AMD their patents on techniques used in x86-64.[122] In 2009,
AMD and Intel settled several lawsuits and cross-licensing disagreements,
extending their cross-licensing agreements.[123][124][125]

BTW, now can create "old" compatible intel cpu with expired patents.

That's why intel always add some extension and request (paid ?) software / os company to use these extension,
So the software will notify user that the software cannot run on "old" cpu.

User forced to upgrade to use those "new" software.

At that time, your "old windows" cannot work anymore.

Have to upgrade all...
More RAM, faster and bigger storage, probably faster CPU (Depends on board)
