Kia Motors Corporation from South Korea and Bermaz Auto (BAuto) have officially reached a joint venture agreement to establish a new company called Kia Malaysia Sdn Bhd (KMSB) in Malaysia.

Kia partnered with Bermaz Auto in Malaysia for a joint venture. The partnership was confirmed in April 2021.

The joint venture aimed to locally assemble and distribute Kia vehicles in Malaysia. The specific models mentioned in the article that would be locally assembled were the Kia Seltos and Kia Carnival MPV, along with one more model that was not specified.

14 March 2024

PETALING JAYA: Bermaz Auto Bhd (BAuto) has won the rights of distributorship, sale of spare parts and provision of after-sales services of XPeng smart electric vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia from Shenzhen Xiaopeng Motors Supply Chain Management Co Ltd, China (Shenzhen XPeng) and Guangzhou Xiaopeng Motors Trading Co, Ltd, China (Guangzhou XPeng).

As principal distributors, Shenzhen XPeng and Guangzhou XPeng oversee the distribution and sales of the XPeng EVs, sale of spare parts and merchandising, as well as provision of after-sales services globally for the vehicle.

They are affiliates of Guangzhou Xiaopeng Motors Technology Co Ltd (XPeng Motors), the manufacturer of the XPeng smart EVs which is headquartered in Guangzhou, with offices also in Mountain View, California and Munich.

Expressing his excitement with the partnership award, BAuto chief executive Datuk Francis Lee Kok Chuan said the XPeng marque of vehicles are among the top smart EVs in China, as well as globally.

“They are equipped with the latest state of the art features such as autonomous driving technology, digital cockpits and high performance batteries. The smart EVs’ Navigation Guided Pilot software offers autonomous-driving capability and can navigate in major cities in China such as Beijing and Shanghai,” he said.

Meanwhile, Xpeng founder and chief executive He Xiaopeng revealed that the XPeng group intends to expand its business operations over the next three years with the company’s current product line-up of award-winning smart EVs, including the P7i, P5, G9 and the newly launched flagship multipurpose vehicle, the X9.

He commented that artificial intelligence is the key area of investment, designed to make the group’s smart EVs more efficient, convenient and accessible to appeal to the large and growing base of technology-savvy middle-class consumers.

The new management team includes Dato Wong Kin Foo as the Managing Director, Michael Moh as the After-sales Manager, Michael Chen as the Sales Manager, and Ian Khong as the Marketing Director.

Kia-Bermaz Partnership in Malaysia

Can Bermaz replicate Mazda's success with Kia and Peugeot?

Replicating success in the automotive industry involves various factors such as product offerings, marketing strategies, brand positioning, customer perception, and market conditions.

While Bermaz has had success with Mazda in Malaysia, the success of Kia and Peugeot will depend on how well Bermaz understands and caters to the specific needs and preferences of customers in those brands' target markets.

Mazda(japan)
Kia(south korea)
Peugeot (france)
Citroen(france)

DS (france)

DS can be an abbreviation of Different Spirit or Distinctive Series, although it is also considered a nod to the classic executive car Citroën DS. The name is also a play on words, as in French it is pronounced like the word déesse, meaning "goddess".

Introduced
2009; 14 years ago

The relationship between DS and Citroën is similar to the relationship between Toyota and Lexus. DS Automobiles is a premium brand that was created as a spin-off from the Citroën brand by its parent company, Groupe PSA (now part of Stellantis).

DS operates as a standalone brand focused on luxury and premium vehicles, much like how Lexus operates independently from Toyota, targeting the higher-end market segment.

Hyundai Motor Company's distributor in Malaysia was Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM).

The Hyundai brand came into Sime Darby Motors in 2004 via the acquisition of Hyumal Motor Sdn Bhd (now known as Sime Darby Hyundai Sdn Bhd) and Hyundai Berjaya Sdn Bhd (now known as Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd), the official importer and distributor of Hyundai vehicles in Malaysia respectively.

In 2009, Sime Darby Motors consolidated the importation and distribution of Hyundai vehicles in Malaysia when it acquired the remaining 60% equity in Oriental Hyundai Sdn Bhd (now known as Sime Darby-Hyundai Integrated Sdn Bhd), which was representing two Hyundai models.

Boon siew group also involved !!!!!!

Did the contract between Berjaya and Hyundai Motors Group last only for 4 years?

Did Berjaya reveal the duration of the distribution rights contract with Kia and Peugeot?

Mazda and Kia are both failures with 2nd hand value which what majority of owners looking for

But Mazda demand is good due to design, spec and price point. Even cx5 still selling well and like kancil these days on the road

The difference ? Good after sale service and support. Seriously Kia if u go Korea every fucking where coz it’s thier national pride. Even ev also Kia and hyundai berterabur

Only malaysia it’s used by black niggas as gateway car apart from gen 2

I believe Berjaya can do something to revive if they can give same quality of after sale service. Thier glenmarie service center I feel is atas moment I step in and then belasah espresso, Sandwich and nasi lemak
