No , it is not the same.

Some unique features of the Sarawak Laksa from my observation:-

1) Lai fan
2) the gravy mixture of laksa + curry + black peppercorn. The gravy got taste of laksa with the shrimp paste.
3) peeled steam prawns
4) sliced fried eggs
5) Bean sprouts

So far, the best one ever tasted was at the 33 VIP Food Court @ Bandar Country Homes





The one as per your description is actually the Johor's Laksa. Johor's laksa = curry mee, don't know why Johorean called it laksa.

It was a curry mee la. I tried a few stalls, all actually were curry mee.

Penang laksa is the laksa we used to know growing up.
