A lot of malaysians are actually cash rich. Cash coming from undisclosed source.

In most countries, credit card is widely accepted and is a safe method to spend money with minimal charge (not a lot of difference as compared to money changer), however people still prefer to bring cash is actually questionable.

The only reason i can think of is money laundering.

that's because you didnt think harder.
Malaysia still got many who are still not adapting to digitalization.
see how many still paying tnb or water bill at pos office?
see how many kampung ppl dont even even own a pc or even bank account?

Cash is for backup and is much safer in case.

Electronic transfer is not reliable. And you're in a foreign country.
*
I beg to differ. Yes cash for backup. But CC payment is more reliable. Flaunting cash in foreign country is as dangerous as it gets.

But depends on destination also.

That depends on bank right. And one time i used cc to withdraw, my charges was around rm50.

But if you withdraw a huge sum, like myr5k and above, rm10 fees is neglible to me.
*
If u used CC, u're subjected to cash advance fee + interest.

Not just a simple one-off RM10-12 for debit/atm card.

Very true.

Yesterday while at Mr DIY, their eWallet system crashed and unable to pay by any eWallet. Many just left the items and came back with cash.

Myself only pay cash so no biggie.

There u have it. CC or DC any time more reliable. As for eWallet? Hhmm, only time will tell.

this WoW me...

CC/DC is also electronic transfer. Please keep in mind.

using Touch N Go as a benchmark for eWallet Tech also a big no no.
just like using Perodua Car as a benchmark....

Touch n GO, if not, the world worst eWallet/prepard card Company on this planet.

GrabPay, MaE, Shopee Pay all perform much better (stable)

CC or DC under the bank network is certainly more reliable than any start-up wannabe payment processing companies.

My rule of thumb when traveling.

Cash for eating and transport. Or buy groceries from the small stall.

CC for hotel, shopping, and big sum payment.

Always have a US$ cash for backup. And 2pcs CC.

one thing many dont consider
you need physical cash to show to customs you are able to survive in their country (if checked)
if you show them credit card or atm card, it is not accepted. they can just deport you on suspesion that you plan to overstay there.
