I'd like to know if this is a standard fee chargeable for web development in Malaysia.

We paid a web developer RM3500. He published the website and ensured alignment is responsive to both mobile and pc views. WordPress system. Less than 5 pages.

All the copywriting and some of the design are done by me.

On top of that, we paid:

• RM60 for a yearly domain (paid to Server Freak using his account)
• RM800 for Serverfreak hosting (paid to Server Freak using his account)

I'd love to hear some thoughts from a web developer. Thank you.

Edit: Glad to know that this is the standard price nowadays. I also learned that if we have more time, we could just spend less than RM2K for a decent website. A lot of good inputs here. Thanks, guys.

can't share any thoughts if we dont know what were your requirements

industry? expected volume/traffic? etc.

if it's purely informational and wont change, everything static, overpaid.

• One page that includes the whole product catalogue that was uploaded by us
• Not an e-commerce website
• A simple website that describes our service and how to reach us
• The web developer does not ask for expected traffic. SEO is done and paid for by us.

RM3.5k sounds fair.

Seems overpaid. For self-hosted WP, prices should be less than 1K including hosting.

I dunno who still works for less than RM1k unless the work takes less than a day

yearly 800 for serverfreak 1 year hosting is overpaid, if your site is just a simple landing page for ppl to know about your product, company, and is low traffic, then you just need the most basic hosting package which is around rm300+ a year

Are you a web developer?

If it's not an ecommerce site you can easily build your own with wix.com, less than rm100 a month.

That sound like 10 minutes with for those work the know how.

Upload wordpress.
Apply some template (template nowadays are mostly mobile friendly)
Populate some generic info (about us, contact us, product page).

The keyword here is "know how". For those without "know how", they have no idea where to start and can take much time to learn but with plenty of youtube video. its not hard to learn.

Yes, like some mention, you dont have to go for rm800 hosting package. For a start, I will go for a rm200 cheapest shared hosting package because we have no idea how your traffic going to be. Only upgrade as your traffic grow.

But nowadays I think a website is less effective. A Google business profile on Google Map, a facebook page, Instagram, a Tiktok page is more effective in engaging with your potential customer.

Is godaddy gooding?

Depends on how they build it.

If pass PageSpeed Insight, everything is optimized and properly done in best practice, then RM 3,500 is a very fair price.

If failed PSI and it's just template work, then the market price for this kind of work is around 2k.

Just stating 'hosting plan from ServerFreak' is too vague. Is it Shared Hosting or VPS, does it inclusive of remote backup, how many PHP workers are available, normal SSD or NVMe, who handles all the maintenance, etc.

Nope, in fact it's one of the worse, given free I also won't use.

Oversell, impose too many limitations on hardware resources and inodes, customer support cacat, bad security practice, ransom domain and much more.

Basically, avoid all hosts under EIG. Go google 'EIG' and you'll know what I mean.

RM500/annually for domain, website, and website tailoring. Simple one. That's DIY cost

2. Are you happy with the way he communicates with you?

If yes to both. Then RM3,500 was well spent in my opinion.

I was charge 8k. Paid ard 5k. Received unfinished website, no reply text n call and that asshole MIA. I hope he KIA as well
