I'd like to know if this is a standard fee chargeable for web development in Malaysia.

We paid a web developer RM3500. He published the website and ensured alignment is responsive to both mobile and pc views. WordPress system. Less than 5 pages.

All the copywriting and some of the design are done by me.

On top of that, we paid:

• RM60 for a yearly domain (paid to Server Freak using his account)
• RM800 for Serverfreak hosting (paid to Server Freak using his account)

I'd love to hear some thoughts from a web developer. Thank you.

Edit: Glad to know that this is the standard price nowadays. I also learned that if we have more time, we could just spend less than RM2K for a decent website. A lot of good inputs here. Thanks, guys. smile.gif

can't share any thoughts if we dont know what were your requirements

industry? expected volume/traffic? etc.

if it's purely informational and wont change, everything static, overpaid.
*
• Trading industry
• One page that includes the whole product catalogue that was uploaded by us
• Not an e-commerce website
• A simple website that describes our service and how to reach us
• The web developer does not ask for expected traffic. SEO is done and paid for by us.

depends on the outcome? RM3.5k is pretty fair

I dunno who still works for less than RM1k unless the work takes less than a day

Are you a web developer?

when you said host under his account, then that is very dangerous

We will make sure he returns them.

RM500/annually for domain, website, and website tailoring. Simple one. That's DIY cost
*
RM500 - What website or system is this? Can you elaborate?

QUOTE(Buffalo Soldier @ Apr 9 2023, 10:42 PM)
1. Are you happy with his work/output?
2. Are you happy with the way he communicates with you?

If yes to both. Then RM3,500 was well spent in my opinion.
*
1. The result is almost close to my expectation. Almost well done.
2. He seemed unhappy after we declined his extra service offer. We don't have the budget, anyway.

Hence, my thread.

it does sound like 10 minutes job, until u meet with client who constantly change mind every day/week

if like that , rm3.5K also not worth it  sweat.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

not to mention some client die die ask you to come over to their office just for some update  sweat.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

doing website for client always not a straight forward case one
*
Yes, customers have expectations because they pay for a service, but in my case, they were mostly minor. We only had 1 meeting. The rest is WA conversation.

Wordpress not plug and play kah now?

I dont supposed u have the admin console access then? Also what about plugins that requires update maintenance is it inclusive?
As someone mentioned u used his acc for paying domain and hosting is slightly dangerous for u. If he dont renew or release the domain u may not get it back and ur website will be down.
*
We have WordPress admin control. I have no idea about the plugins but most of them had been left un-updated (although he is supposed to maintain this). I just updated all of them. I am figuring out how to back up all this data too.

The web developer is my partner's friend. We trust that despite disagreement, he will return these.

lulz, i charged 3.5k as a start for normal corporate website with wordpress.

That exclude hosting. Ease of it is that my client can upload the content themselves, even changing image or content in editor as the editor is quite user friendly.

i dont usually charge for extra maintainance if it's a small one. Makes them happy.
*
Good to know the price is standard, but not the cheapest.

QUOTE(JimbeamofNRT @ Apr 10 2023, 10:14 AM)
that's the problem, but most of the time u can detect problematic client right from the start.

yup you can migrate from godaddy just like laobeh explained in details
I am surprised nobody comment about ex@bytes yet  cool2.gif
*
Exabytes sucks. I dislike the customer service.

QUOTE(il0ve51 @ Apr 10 2023, 01:31 PM)
i go youtube learn how to make website from scratch. basically the cost just domain (Rm50), server (Rm200++) and time. plugin is cheap if you know how to get, pricy if you direct subscribe. the rest is easy.
*
No time to.

QUOTE(JimbeamofNRT @ Apr 10 2023, 02:11 PM)
I dont think TS got time to do all these, thats why TS hired someone to do it
*
Precisely.

QUOTE(il0ve51 @ Apr 10 2023, 03:32 PM)
then 3500 is fair price, just the server should buy on own instead of the designer.
*
Agreed. Will be more careful in the future. I wonder why the web developer didn't advise us of this prior to purchase.

Rm800/yr to host a 4page wordpress??

just wow...

Because based on my partner's previous experience, the website was super slow when they subscribed basic (RM200~300). I am planning to add on another page for product registration. Or perhaps, I should add more page to utilise the server?
