Back then, we didn't have much information, no FB owners groups to get first hand information. We could only rely on forums like LYN, Motor Trader, and Autoworld for information. Fast and Furious punya experts macam really yes like that last time. There was even this one guy who "softmodded" his Civic FD2 into a Type-R, he seemed convincing, he even had pictures of his softmodded Civic.
I asked him whether the bangla looking foreman in the picture was the mechanic who handled the softmodding, he told me that was his "abro" (aboriginal) worker, as he was in Perth, Australia. Man, these guys in F&F really know their stuff!
Then I stumbled upon this tered https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1093787

Dear all.....
Given two choice, Civic 1.8 and Peugeot 308 Turbo. Which car do you choose?
A simple scenerio.
- Depreciation is not the factor and assuming you gonna keep that car for more than 10 years.
- Maintenance of car whereby 308 every 10000km and Civic, 5000km
- The features offer by both car
Appreciate if you do give a vote and state the reason you choose.
To those that already voted....many thanks...
regards

Definitely the 308 THP.. if you are as follows:
- need power and acceleration in your bonnet ( be it uphill or flat road)
- willing to spend money on it i.e repairs n maintenance for original parts
- like to be different from others (everyday see toyota honda n proton bore u)
- wanna taste all the gadgets that japs wont provide you at 100k price
- wanna feel the european handling
- willing to spend time to get it repaired when the time comes
- willing to take the bad after sales service by NAZA
- need the EXTRA protection of 5 star EURO CAP
Then please by all means go for 308 THP.. ENUF SAID!!

take 308 turbo if you want to be different. civic is too many on the road now. plus 1.8 is for pansies and aunties.
spec wise, no contest. 308 turbo wins by a big margin. award winning engine too.
why not test drive both cars and decide. i did test for both and my pick is the pug.

If you want to get the HONDA CIVIC,you have to get the 2.0 one.The 1.8 is seriously underpower.
If you insist on getting the 1.8,then of course the Peugeot 308 TURBO is way way way better.
I hv test drove the THP and its a damn fun car to drive!
The "Aussie" guy was exposed as a fraud, and his tered got moved to Lowyat Kopitiam, and he became something of a meme here.If you insist on getting the 1.8,then of course the Peugeot 308 TURBO is way way way better.

And I was stuck with a Peugeot 308, with frequent "Depollution System Faulty" messages on the dash.
Moral of the story, Follow what Kevin23 says and buy the CIVIC 2.0!
