Dear sifus,

today just bought Kingston DataTraveler Exodia pen drive...and it seems that the max transfer speed I can achieve is only around 8MB/s... but when i try on my old USB3 external hdd, they seem to be way much faster.
Any idea why this is like this?

I bought from a reputable PC shop so i believe this should be original and not fake...

Are you transferring those files from a HDD or ssd or nvme? If it’s from hdd then it will be slow. Usually about 10-15mb/s depending ot on why type of hdd ure using.

3. whatever just interface speed, but write speed depends on Nan chip, and probably you buy cheap.

Get NVMe for performance.

First of all, get info on the read and write speed of your thumb drive.
If you are copying from HDD to usb, your write speed might be the limiting factor...

Cheap USB drive, slow speeds

It's expected

USB Drives get the lowest bin crappy QLC NAND because you're expected to use them just to casually store small files

All the good stuff goes into SSD

Manufacturers don't even want to say how fast their USB drives go on their site (spoiler: it's because they're slow)

If you want speeds, get a SanDisk drive which runs SUPER HOT but fast
Or Samsung Bar Plus for speed and not too hot

Kingston, Kioxia and other brands are quite slow

Or, diy pendrive with an M.2 SSD in an enclosure for the ultimate speed but at a premium cost

EDIT: That blog linked by sadukarzz is a good blog, I also read it
As you can see, they also got similar speeds, so it's just how the USB drive is designed, it's a cheap slow drive

I buy from a very reputable PC shop...i'm 99% sure they don't sell fake...

looks like this Kingston pen drive is meant to be slow and not fast... it just say USB3.2 interface but never really provide the actual write/read speed...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Gv2I1AGXXo

https://www.kingston.com/en/usb-flash-drive...usb-flash-drive

it says Gen USB3.2 compliance only.....it's a good lesson learn for me...

thank you

Plug in your usb drive.
Use the program usb tree viewer to check the connection interface. See if it is superspeed or highspeed.

file transfer also depends on type of files and windows activity in background read/writes on files on the disk.

10 files of 10GB transfer is way faster than 100,000 files of 10GB.

for executables may go through background viral scanning.

Pendrives sometimes performs very bad when they are 99% full.

For giga big files dont use pendrive.. use external HDD/SSD. Pendrives concurrent read/write is bad.. doesnt matter even with usb 3 bandwidth.
