SINGAPORE, May 1 (Bernama): Singapore Mufti Dr Nazirudin Mohd Nasir today announced that the first day of Syawal D1443H/2022 falls on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

This means Muslims in Singapore will not be joining Malaysians to celebrate Hari Raya on May 2.

"According to the ‘hisab’ (calculation), the crescent moon of Syawal is unlikely to be seen on the horizon of Singapore when the sun sets this afternoon and also does not meet the conditions of the ‘imkanur rukyah’ criteria that have been agreed by the member countries of MABIMS.

"This means that tomorrow (May 2) is the culmination of the month of Ramadan for 30 days and the beginning of the month of Syawal in 1443H, which is, Hari Raya Aidilfitri falls on Tuesday (May 3),"he said in a video posted by The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS).


MABIMS is an acronym for Menteri-Menteri Agama Negara Brunei Darussalam, Republik Indonesia, Malaysia dan Repbulik Singapura (Ministers of Religion of Brunei Darussalam, the Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia and the Republic of Singapore).

Still remember when i was studying primary school, Hari Raya and CNY overlapped. Wasted the Holiday.

hari raya is a moving target if you based it on Grogorian calendar.
because Islamic event is based on Hijri calendar, which is based on lunar, which is always shorter per cycle than Gregorian solar cycle.

There are internet website which can show you future calendar and holidays. In fact, there will be 3 years Hari Raya and CNY will overlap. From 2029 to 2031. The first 2 years even overlap in such a way that there will be 4 days consecutive holidays. Big celebration very few people will be working. But of course, still subject to new moon sighting as usual for hari Raya.

2029, CNY starts from 13 Feb Tuesday, Hari Raya is 15 Feb Thursday. Plus weekend there will be a grand total of 6 days holidays.

2030. CNY starts from 03 Feb Sunday, Hari Raya is 5 Feb Tuesday. Meaning once again 6 days holidays starting from Saturday to Thursday. For KL there is one more federal holiday on Friday so a total of 7 days.

2031. CNY starts from 23 Jan Thursday, Hari Raya is 25 Jan Saturday, if you work in MNC and get replacement for Saturday then once again you have 6 days holidays in a row.

Hope still alive by then no WW3 and can enjoy all these holidays for 3 years straight. You only get to enjoy this once in a lifetime only.

based on lunar visibility map, malaysia is not on the region of lunar can be sight by optical aid.

last year we are under the visibility zone with optical aid, hence we raya awal as there the rule if can see the moon, hence it beginning of the new month...

Hope your theory is correct. Personally, prefer Saturday for the first day of Raya, as Friday can be a bit rushed with limited time due to Raya preparations/prayers and Friday prayers as well.

on this map, malaysia is clearly not on the zone where new moon can be seen by any aid as the moon still not set before sun.

malaysia on the zone where moon possible to seen by optical aid. which we did last year even not fulfill criteria(calculation), but based on hadis, when we see the moon, mean it already new month(rephrasing the hadis).

BTW, if hari raya(both) fall on friday, you have the choice to choose which solat you want to go...

it is not prediction but based on lunar sighting calculation and astrological data. on map i attached here got few colour which is whit is not possible to see new moon, blue possible to see using aid, cyan can see by naked eye if condition are great and green can be see by naked eye on any condition

You forgot the most important part, if Raya on Sat, 2nd raya will be Sunday, so we get Monday off.

If Raya on Fri, 2nd raya will be Saturday, so Monday no off.

I think highly likely Raya will be on Friday based on what I read on social med.
Luckily I work at government sector, so if Raya on Friday, Monday is still holiday lol.

The place that I work now considers Monday as public holiday, unless there's new pekeliling.
But last year Raya also early by one day.

Last year, the new moon occured on 1 May 2022 at 4.28am, in the wee hours of the day, making it possible for the crescent to be visible during the evening.

This will be the big question.
Technically Monday should not be holiday already.
At least in the private sector, there could be some replacements and what not if Raya is a day earlier.
