Realistically, no. Annual salary increment is usually around 4-6% and that's if your company is doing quite well (ex: PETRONAS).

If you want to get 10% increment, it's either a counter-offer from your employer to retain you, a promotion or you jump ship. I wouldn't recommend jumping ship for 10% increment though. At least 15% but on average, 20-30%. If you're lucky, you can get 50-60% increment especially if you're joining a high-paying industry. It happened to me once and my salary went from RM3000 to RM4800. Felt like winning the lottery. hahaha

Yearly salary increment is benchmarked against inflation. 6% is pretty high.

Salary adjustment is done when company benchmark against the market level they prefer. It can be a straight one big jump or done in incremental by year.

Jumping will yearn higher because 1) ppl is desperate for worker, 2) your salary is probably under market standard.

One thing you guys need to know, not all "lowballing" is done intentionally. Sometimes, your current pay is already above the new company pay range or market standard. I am not justifying it is right to do so, cause it is more appropriate to just reject the candidate. But sometimes, ppl do stupid things. As usual, Malaysian loves to try everything.

I'd rather have the recruiter reject my job application based on my expected salary rather than allowing the hiring manager to invite me to go on an interview and then lowball me. Happened to me once when I went for an interview at ASTRO. They offered me an increment less than RM100 because my "salary bracket" is almost maxed out for the position.

Some managers have a very weird taste, thinking ppl come to apply because our company is "great".

Red flag, for sure! Companies should post the salary range of a position when they advertise it. That'll make it easier for both parties.

3000 to 4800, 60%, that must feel so damn good 👍
Stay at same company, if even after promotion, also maybe not 60% I guess.

The crazy thing was.. I wrote down expected salary RM4k to deter them. I only went for the interview to refresh my interview skills. I applied for the job a month before without doing research on the company and I found out they were embroiled in so much controversy (Lynas) so I got scared. When they called up for an interview, I gave so many excuses but legit ones (ex: cant apply leave within 7 days). They continued to call me up for 3 weeks and I relented just for the interview experience.

Went to the interview on Friday, they called me up on Monday morning and offered me more than I asked for. I accepted the job immediately and it turned out to be one of the best jobs I ever had. And just to add, Lynas is OK. No radiation danger whatsoever. Ive been there, Ive seen the science and data.
