cloudgaming

Three months after first teasing it, Yes 5G and NVIDIA have finally brought the latter’s GeForce NOW cloud gaming service to Malaysia. Cloud gaming basically lets you stream the game you’re playing in real time by accessing a virtual computer, allowing you to play almost any game, anywhere on any device.

However, not everyone will be able to sign up for it at the moment. The Yes 5G Gaming beta only applies to Yes customers for now, and those of you without a Yes number will be prompted to sign up for one of Yes’ telco plans instead.

If you are on a Yes plan though, then you can just sign up for a Yes 5G Gaming account. During the beta, you’ll be able to access NVIDIA GeForce NOW for free and play any of the games available in the platform’s library. There’s a 6 hour limit on each gaming session though, which is perhaps a good thing if you’re someone who actually plays video games for six hours straight. The games you choose to play will also have RTX On, if it’s an available option.

As mentioned earlier, the Yes 5G Gaming Beta will be available at no cost for Yes customers, with the beta access lasting from now till the 10th of April. That gives you just about three weeks to try out any of the over 1,500 titles in its library, which includes games such as Cyberpunk 2077, Destiny 2, Fortnite, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and more.

Oh, and perhaps the best part of cloud gaming is that you don’t need a gaming PC or a console either—GeForce NOW will work on almost any device, from a Windows PC or MacOS system to your smartphone and even certain smart TVs. What you do need though is a fast internet connection with low latency; GeForce NOW requires at least 15Mbps for 720p at 60FPS gaming, 25Mbps for 1080p at 60FPS gaming and 35Mbps for up to 4K gaming at 120FPS.

Once you’ve signed up for a Yes 5G Gaming account successfully (you can do so here), you’ll then need to download and use the GeForce NOW app for your platform. You can then log into your account on the GeForce NOW app, link it to your own Steam, Epic Game Store or GOG account and start playing all the games you want—at least, till 10 April.

They never mention if that only works on Yes 5g connection. And if Yes is required, whether the data is free or will be charged as usual. If data not free, then cheaper to run your own rig in the long run, and more responsive too.

Hmm, moonlight + sunlight is a wonderful technology, but it still needs a setup that utilizes my home's electricity...As a result, this is not a long-term strategy for reducing my electricity bills.

At the moment, I have no complaints about GFN; it is a reliable technology with numerous possibilities for connecting with well-known game stores such as GOG, Steam, Ubisoft, and Epic Games. The game library is small, but the bulk of my games are available on GFN. I applied for Yes GFN service interest, but because I am not a Yes user, I will postpone my enrollment with Yes until it is available to non-Yes users. For the time being, I will depend on Starhub GFN service.

It was previously restricted to Nvidia devices; however, it is now accessible on a wide range of non-Nvidia platforms.

Subscribed since 14 March, didn't notice any lag or delay. I played on my android phone connected with ps4 controller. Experience is quite good.

1 hour of game play used around 2gb of data, not sure what's the resolution cause it adjust automatically.

I used to subscribe to Starhub's GeForce Now servers before they switch to the crazier pricing model.

You don't really need mobile internet - any internet, even Fibre will work. You can even run it on browsers!

Any cloud gaming experience will always include latency. Malaysian and Singaporean latency may be subjective. However, the general rule is that the closer the server, the lower the latency.

But, I don't find it a big issue while playing GFN via the Singapore Gamehub+ server so far maybe because I have enough bandwidth (800 Mbps connection) to play cloud gaming within my home mesh network to support more than 40 devices at one time. But, I currently don't play any games that are latency-sensitive yet; mostly single-player games and puzzle adventure games.

GeForce Now now supports Xbox Game Pass, Ubisoft+, and EA Play:

In June 2023, Nvidia announced that Xbox Game Pass for PC will be available on GeForce Now in the "months ahead."

QUOTE

GeForce Now members will be able to “stream select PC games from the library,” so it doesn’t look like it will be the full catalog. Either way, this is a big deal for cloud gaming, allowing PC Game Pass subscribers to use Nvidia’s superior game streaming service with RTX 4080 levels of performance. In our own testing we found the RTX 4080 tier of GeForce Now was far superior to Microsoft’s own Xbox Cloud Gaming offering for performance and latency.

https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/11/23757313...dia-geforce-now
In March 2023, Nvidia announced that Ubisoft+ will be available on GeForce Now in the "coming weeks."

In January 2023, it was announced that EA Play will be available on GeForce Now in the "coming months."

These partnerships will allow GeForce Now users to stream a selection of games from these platforms to their devices.

As the cloud gaming market continues to expand, we can expect to see more exciting partnerships and game announcements in the future.

As a result, we no longer require powerful machines to enjoy cloud gaming on GFN, just a good Internet connection and a nearer GFN server whenever available like Yes5G GFN (Malaysia) and Starhub Gamehub+ GFN (Singapore)

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce-now/blog/

N.B.: For Reddit users that visit r/GeforceNow, it has now been made private in response to Reddit API changes. You may join r/GeforceNow Discord channel for GFN news and updates

Were you subscribed directly to GFN or through an alliance partner? Direct subscribers get the highest tier with custom game settings up to 4K @ 120 fps. Alliance partners in the SEA region offer up to GTX 1060 and RTX 2080 with no custom game settings. In either way, resolution and refresh rate depend on the GFN client used.

I still don't like the idea of cloud / digital.
Hated it when games started to go digital only, still hate them now. And now this cloud gaming thingy, I prefer to have my own GPU. This is just like renting, and I hate the idea of renting.

For me depends on your pov. Of course it’s a no brainer to own a gpu but for example if ur pc got any problem or during travel where you need to kill some time, cloud gaming is kinda great. It’s good to have options biggrin.gif

The official NVIDIA website, geforcenow.com, automatically selects the available providers based on your country of residence. However, you have the option to switch to a different provider by accessing the GFN app > hamburger icon (top-left corner) > Settings > Geforce Now Provider > Switch Provider option, but only if you haven't logged in or registered. This is the only way to change your provider.

This is using a supported web browser to access the GFN settings from the play.geforcenow.com website:

You have to use a VPN to access official GFN servers in the US, Canada, and EU countries. But, VPN will introduce latency.

You could use VPN to connect to Japan / Taiwan server if want to try GFN for free. Taiwan server have <100 ping so its fine if not playing competitive games.

For me depends on your pov. Of course it’s a no brainer to own a gpu but for example if ur pc got any problem or during travel where you need to kill some time, cloud gaming is kinda great. It’s good to have options biggrin.gif

build your own cloud computer using software like Parsec

Recently just subscribe GFN 1 month to play monster hunter wilds on steam deck / Ally X

though the rig in Malaysia still kinda outdated, but it still smoother than Ally X a lot a lot.

Yea, last time just bought one Yes Prepaid card RM10 (before GFN release) and maintain till now (reload before number termination) cause wanna try the 5G.

But RM30 is exclude SST 8% :\

So total dmg / month = RM32.40 actually.

Last time before gfn masuk MY, I subscribed SG gfn for a few times for testing and the screen quality much better with 3080 rig. Price is much cheaper too, I rmb around rm2+ to 3+. Sad now no longer can access SG gfn, the website keep redirect you back to MY.

You mean using VPN to access SG server?

Somehow i'm quite satisfied now using the 2080 rig since i mainly use for handheld console thumbup.gif

But last evening not sure is unifi pasal or what, keep getting bad connection "your connection is spotty" which later night time resume normal again.
Good thing is MY now doesn't have the 100hour / month limitation.

Last time no need vpn, can directly subscribe to SG and use their rig and server. Now not sure anymore, no longer use gfn.

Evening and night unifi like that one, will keep buffer. Maybe not enough bandwidth.

Currently using Artemis / Apollo on my Retroid pocket 5 to play monster hunter wilds. That’s local streaming, but network lag is below 10ms.

But when I’m outside, GeForce now might be tempting…

My home PC spec not so really power and dunno why steam link to my steam deck only gets black screen with sound.

Home PC spec
11400F
3060Ti 8GB Vram

Plus the stutter caused by this capcom is real pain somehow :\
Even yesterday patch also no fix those stutter or polygon.

How i wish YTL can upgrade their server rig to 30 or 40 series at least

Steam link isn’t working for me too.
I’m using a 4070 super and I get a black screen too.
It’s not your pc, it’s the game compatibility with steamlink.

Apollo is the recent fork for Sunshine which was mentioned in this thread years ago. It works well.

MHW probably after this month the hype also will down soon and will unsub GFN until next time.
This series kinda easy compare to World.

Right now i dy done with the story campaign and literally just farm equipment and build
Maybe getting old dy, dun have the free time like 2018
My monster hunter world time play capped like 400 hours before i stop.

But thanks to MHWilds, i know that GFN actually kinda good too after testing (Sad they no provide trial period)
