Hi Sifus,

As per title, my home is using Unifi 100 Mbps package.

Internet like snail (to connect, surfing so slow). Unifi technician came home and suggest I upgrade the stock Unifi router as below picture.

Model: TP Link, Archer C1200







Is this router the cause of the slow-ness?

And if upgrade, can recommend what brand and model the best?

i recently upgraded to the tp link Archer AX10 and its been pretty stable so far. mainly because of the wifi 6 technology, but your mileage may vary cause it requires wifi 6 to be on both the router as well as the connected device(s). nevertheless, its a good router for the price ive found.

if it is free then let them do the upgrade lo.
if need to pay then just terminate and switch to other telco.

how slow is slow? what is the problem? that router shouldnt be slow. u need to identify the problem first before changing router. if u are not getting 100mbps u can call unifi to complain

1. Mostly slow for device to connect to Wifi

2. Sppedtest done by Unifi technician first, he said get at 50 Mbps. If want faster, upgrade plan, or upgrade router

3. I did my own speedtest, at good times no other device connected get Download at 20Mbps

I continue complain to Unifi? I malas wanna upgrade plan...

anyway your plan is 100 mbps. u are only getting 50mbps. this is not acceptable
if u are not getting the advertised speed u can complain to mcmc.

2 options

1. pay rm53 (again?) and get technician to replace with wifi 6 (white color fiberhome or black color dlink/netis) and renew 1 year contract
2. buy one from shop or online. Mercusys MR 70X or MR 80X can be got for around RM250 or below during sales

choose your poison. IMO second option is better

Face the device/router what speed u get?

which device connect to the router used to test?

connect LAN cable to pc & speedtest it, if u get 100mbps then suggest get a new wifi router.
if speed is 50mbps then report mcmc

tapi last month unifi call promote free upgrade wifi 6 router wifi, kena renew 2 yrs contract

if out of contract, switch telco and get their new wifi6 router.
or ask TM about getting new wifi6 router and recontract 2 years.

The old C1200 is known to overheat and be slow

either recontract and get a free D-Link/FibreHome/whatever brand wifi 6 router from Unifi (or port to other ISP for the same)

or just go get basically any TP-Link or Asus AX wifi router
