Hi,

I'm currently subscribing to unifi 100mbps plan and had no awareness that they implementing CGNAT for 100mbps < below customers.

I noticed this when i tried to host a room/lobby/server for some of the games that still required public ipv4.

2 days ago i made a report to TM via email and attach some photos/documents to request if they can assign my account for public ip.
Now still waiting for their reply regarding this matter wether they going to approved it or not.

While waiting for their answer, i do a bit of "recon" towards another ISP available in this country especially on my area.
Of all the ISP that still offering Public IP should be Maxis and Unifi.
As far as i know, Maxis will start charging for Public IP starting March 2023.
While Unifi still not clear for me wether they gonna start charging for it aswell.

Not to mention i've been a loyal customer to TM since streamyx era.

What options do i have?
1: Either upgrading to unifi 300mbps plan with uncertainty they going to charge for public ip in future.
2: switching to maxis 300mbps plan with certainty that i will be paying extra 10 ringgit soon for public ip.

In terms of cost, both options will make me paid the same amount of bill every month i guess.
RM 159 + RM 8(tax) for unifi
RM 149 + RM10(public ip) + RM 8(tax) for maxis

Any input regarding this post are welcome.

Hi, just checking - is your Unifi still within contract?

Some people are offered re-contract with free upgrade to 300Mbps (still paying RM129).

If you have time, probably you can go to a TM Point and ask about the re-contract offer for 300Mbps, @ RM129.

I was offered via a Unifi telemarketer (?) to re-contract, 300Mbps upgrade @ RM159 with ‘Free’ Deco M4.

Little did I know that it was supposed to be RM129 + RM30 for the M4 Deco.

Did you get Public IP or Private IP assigned to your account after the upgrade?
In terms of equipment, did they offer change ONU or Router aswell?

Not sure about the IP, but as for the equipment - no change except for the ‘free’ M4.

Update!

I decided to go to TM Point and request and upgrade from 100mbps>300mbps plan with 2 years contract.
Currently assigned to public dynamic ip.
So far satisfied with the upgrade.

Did you did not take up the Mesh route option ?
That would have been an additional RM30 per month, correct ?

No, i choose the basic upgrade package.
Only new router provided.
I'm not sure about the mesh since i don't really need it.

I would like Maxis fibre but my area has no coverage.
So, I have to use 4g but I am within a CGNAT for IPV4 but if I use IPV6, I have my own public IP.

Hotlink 365 has a data plan of RM 35 per month with one IPV6 number.

As IPV4 is becoming scarce, many ISPs (including Maxis) will try to make money by selling IPV4 addresses at premium prices.
IPV4 address space is like .com domain names under ICANN and a very lucrative business as its value is high due to its limited
supply.

However, we all know both ICANN and our own MCMC recommend gradual shift to IPV6 to stop speculators who wish to make
money.

Instead of paying Maxis, why don't you try to use your IPV6 number. It can be used for CCTV, game server, and even
your personal website.
