We have received complaint about man feeding kittens to snake, says Vet Dept


PETALING JAYA: A complaint has been received about a Twitter user who fed a kitten to a python, says the Veterinary Services Department.

Department deputy director Dr Akma Ngah Hamid has said that her department received the complaint and immediately forwarded it to the Animal Welfare section.

"We received the complaint in our email and forwarded it straight to animal welfare. For any further reports, feel free to send them to MyAnimalWelfare's online system," she said.

Twitter user @vvnloll shared screenshots taken from a video posted to the social media site and said that he is shocked the man could get these kittens and rabbits free of charge and feed them to his snake.

"My friend and I have no problem finding these kittens and rabbits for our snake," said the person who posted the original video, adding that he is thrilled to see his snake eating the cats.

This led to anger on social media, as Twitter users appalled by his behaviour called for the authorities to take strict action.

"I'm not sure how animal laws are over here but if I'm not mistaken you'd need a license to raise a pet snake. Maybe netizens can lodge a police report with help from animal rights organisations," said Twitter user@alfiezik.

Similarly, @nadiyahsusinoo said; "Has he no heart to hear the cries of these kittens and rabbits as they're eaten alive" while @hrashidah3 says a person can be fined RM50,000, imprisoned for a year or both if found guilty of animal cruelty.

Honestly I don't care what people feed to their pet snakes, as long as it's not illegally acquired such as feeding endangered species or like stealing people's pets to feed, if you have acquired the kittens legally idgaf. Unwanted animals are honestly a pest and irresponsible pet owners need to be charged with criminal charges, seriously buat orang susah je, so many types of sampah pet owners (of both cats and dogs in Malaysia, exacerbating the stray problem). Whether it's natural or not, I see singki recently ada news some snake ate some community cat, so snakes can and do seek animals including cats to eat.

Last time the back of my house got a wild 3 meter phyton. Called bomba to catch it. Its quite thick. If it did not eat rats from drains near restaurants, it definitely ate feral and pet cats.

Too many strays breeding non stop, too little human action and compassion to even try to reduce the number of strays that it became eyesore and health hazard to the public.

Instead of having this kill shelters for cats and dogs, just feed them to stronger predators (i.e. phytons, tigers, leopards, bears) and broadcast the hunt live for educational purposes.
