Erm...i will buy psp slim for myself mayb tomoro from sce keane...

Can anyone suggest which cfw i should get from him?
I mean should i get 3.71 M33-2 M33-3 or M33-4?
*
If possible, ask for 3.71 M33-4. If you didn't get 3.71 M33-4, you can upgrade yourself. It's not that hard to do so.

I bought from him last month and got 3.71 M33 (that time 3.71 M33-3 already out). When I got home, I straight away upgrade to 3.71 M33-3 myself. Now I'm on 3.71 M33-4. smile.gif

Running full speed ? you mean ?? Homebrew apps like what ?? does it make a lot of difference?
*
Some Homebrew apps can take advantage of the extra RAM on PSP Slim to make their application runs better.

hmm..Still will there be a big difference ? As in faster by a big gap or just a little faster?? Can add ram to the phat psp..hehehe..
*
No, you can't add RAM to the old PSP. Some homebrew apps will only run in PSP Slim (probably because the old PSP doesn't have the extra RAM required).

Official Firmware 3.80 is out.

New function:

They are as follows:

* Internet Radio has been added as a feature under [Network]
* The importing of channels in OPML format is now supported under [RSS Channels]
* Photos can now be displayed under [RSS Channel]
* New effects have been added to the visual player under [Music] (Only one new visualizer has been added. It acts like a slow Etch-a-Sketch)

I want the internet radio and the new visualization.

Edit, forgot to mention that this change log is from US version, so that's why there's no mention of 1-seg recording function.

just bought my psp 4 days ago..

*
What firmware is your PSP is currently on?

The latest custom firmware is 3.71 M33-4 and 3.73 HX-1.
The latest official firmware is 3.80.

o thx.
im using 3.71 firmware..
now wat should i do to upgrade my firmware to 3.80?
n th popsloader...where can i find it?
*
3.71 official firmware or custom firmware? 3.80 is only for official firmware (non-modded) PSP.

Go to Settings > System Settings > System Information, and then look at System Software. What does it say?

If just 3.71 then you're on Official Firmware. If 3.71 M33 / 3.71 M33-2 / 3.71 M33-3 / 3.71 M33-4 then you're on custom firmware.

is that hard for ppl that dunno japanese?
*
Maybe, I was stuck at the "Don" Drum tutorial. There are some instruction text on screen, half of it was in Japanese.

The only thing I understand is it asked me to play the "Don" drum in Don - Don Don - Don Don rhythm which I did, but nothing happened. Later, I found out that I actually have to be in "Fever Mode" for it to work.

Later my nice themes can't be used. blush.gif
*
Yeah, I think you might run into some incompatibilities problem as firmware 3.80 adds a new icon for "Internet Radio" which is absent from themes made for firmware 3.71.

Pardon my ignorance, besides the Internet radio, is there any bug fixes or new features introduced in this new custom firmware? notworthy.gif

There's a new visualization for the music player, and it adds support for future games that require firmware 3.80 to run.

QUOTE(ironh1d3 @ Jan 15 2008, 10:58 AM)
do u have any problem with the new CFW...

i want to update it but what about my current .ptx theme, can it still be used?

can anybody who hv update to the latest CFW give comment here please..
i've downloaded the filem if the comment is good i'll update my PSP straight away...
*
The upgrading process was problem-free. The trouble comes after the upgrading is complete. I can no longer find my games and saved games data on my PSP's menu even though the files are still on my Memory Stick.

After I did some reading online I found out that on firmware 3.80, Sony decreased the size of FAT driver for the Memory Stick from 185KB to 95KB (to make room for new features perhaps) and they might have screwed something up.

My Memory Stick is formatted to FAT, and it might explain why I can no longer see my games and saved games in the PSP's menu. After I reformatted my Memory Stick to FAT32, everything was back to normal. smile.gif

Also, you can't play PS1 games on 3.80. Current Popsloader (PS1 emulator) is not compatible with 3.80 yet, have to wait till Popsloader written for 3.80 released.

So, if you don't want to use FAT32 formatting for your Memory Stick (some people say that FAT is faster than FAT32, I didn't notice any difference) or play PS1 games, don't upgrade to firmware 3.80.

actually u are wrong. i formated mine to FAT again and its still working. so its still not limited to FAT32...  just the file allocation is a bit diff.
*
From what I read, it only affects certain memory stick, mostly those who are using 4GB & 8GB. I'm using a fake 4GB memory stick, so maybe I'm the unlucky one because mine won't work under FAT anymore.

mine also fake ler. LOL.. i also got terrified cause it couldnt detect "it".. thn ninja saved me.. lol. reformated transfer worked!! both ori and non-ori. both also 4gb... maybe the clusters u relocated initially.. i locate mine at 64kb..
*
I copied the files from the memory stick to the PC (including the hidden system files), formatted my memory stick to FAT (64kb cluster), then copy back all the folders from my PC to my memory stick. All the media files (picture, songs, video) worked fine, but I still can't find my games and saved games data.

Tried formatting to FAT32 using my PC, then copy back all the files to my memory stick. Same thing happened, media files working fine while games are not.

Then finally formatted the memory stick using PSP, automatically become FAT32, everything are working fine now.

You have any idea why it wouldn't work when I formatted the memory stick using my PC? Is there any special way to format the memory stick to FAT and make the save games work? unsure.gif

QUOTE(Dark Kai @ Jan 15 2008, 04:55 PM)
What i did was format the MS with the PSP and not the PC.
*
It work fine when formatted using the PSP, but it will be automatically be formatted to FAT32. If I want to format to FAT, there's no other choice but to format using PC.

u format using the Windows GUI or command prompt? Last time I formatted using command prompt, to FAT format, and it works with 3.80. FAT is many faster than FAT32, when you are on 4 GB mspd. I forgot the actual command though, but you can google it
*
Formatted using the Command Prompt and it doesn't work on the PSP. Using FAT32 now, and I don't feel like there's any difference in read / write speed compared to using FAT.

.ptf themes works on Official Firmware too. All you need is to copy the .ptf theme file into the /PSP/THEME/ folder on your Memory Stick.

Search for "PSP PTF Theme" on Google. smile.gif

mm...Now I'm looking at youtube video teaching how to update firmware

first thing first is to copy the Update folder into PSP\Game\ folder ...
then do I need to rename files or what? or straight away can run the updates?
this part confused me ... rclxub.gif
*
You need to download the Official Sony 3.80 firmware first. It's not included in the 3.80 M33 installer for legal reasons.

When you download it, by default the filename will be EBOOT.PBP, you need to rename it to 380.PBP then copy it into the 3.80 M33 "UPDATE" folder inside \PSP\GAME\

Now I got 2 files from DarkAlex website
one is the release, another one is M33-2

is the release version = Official Sony 3.80 firmware ?

if not, then the Official Sony 3.80 firmware can be download from Official PSP website?
*
Release version is the first revision of 3.80 M33, the 3.80 M33-2 is a patch to fix some bugs found in the release version of 3.80 M33.

To make it simple:

Install 3.80 M33 first, then install the 3.80 M33-2 patch after that.

You need the official Sony 3.80 firmware to install 3.80 M33, while the 3.80 M33-2 patch doesn't need it.

Yup, all the files should be in the folder called "UPDATE" at \PSP\GAME\ smile.gif
