What are your thoughts on moving for a lower salary?

Say you have taken a new job with a salary of RM12.5k but you realise its simply and absolutely not a good fit and finds you questioning your sanity. Your previous salary was RM10k. The nature of work between the two jobs is pretty different and in different sub-industries.

You got another job offer but the pay is around RM11k, however the job is more aligned to your interest and closer to your previous job.

Will you consider making the change for a lower salary? Anything to be mindful about making such such a change?

It depends what you want in the end.

I know personally a few (mostly ladies) hope from one job to another either similar salary / lower with no position changed due to family commitment or just want a stable 9-5 job.

I would move

I did that previously. Money is not everything

You will perform well in a better environment, hence increment is just a matter of time. Sooner or later your new salary will be higher than your previous

Did it before and it turned out well for me. Moved to a "better" company for a lower pay. A few years later my salary was higher than what it would have been if I stayed on

RM12.5k vs 11k is a small difference, unless that 1.5k gap is essential to you it should be fine to do that

I did that the last time and it was a nightmare when wanting to move on. Companies always don't care what you earned in the past and they will only take your most recent salary slip.

only job that I would take that make me question my sanity due to not a good fit, if the salary is > 26k and is at director level.

other than that, I would stick to my rice bowl.

this. I took a 2/3 pay cut. regretted it. took immense amount of effort to get out of the rabbit hole. Future employers will gauge your salary base on your worthiness. Unless owners are willing to invest in you and won't look at your past salary but your expectation.

For TS case, 10% is negligible. One or two years you should be offsetting the figures but with a happy & healthy minds.
