So I thought I make an article on the performances of new vs low tread depth tire.

Why you should get new tires

So next time you see a stingy guy, you can ask him to re-evaluate the risk before deciding to whether to part way with their money.

please do not risk it, change them when you have to, else the price to pay will be higher

This article is about buying a new tyre vs buying a used tyre, where wallet is hurt.

It's not about buying a new tyre vs keeping a used tyre.

Beware of cherry picking a certain performance parameters.

There is a reason all tyre manufacturers and government regulations across the planet requiring a tyre of 1.6 mm tread depth and below be replaced, but not those > 1.6 mm tread depth.

That's pretty judgmental of you to call someone stingy based on their tyre condition.

I think anyone who knowingly drives a vehicle with less than acceptable tread depth is not only just stingy, but should actually be charged for doing so.

They are literally endangering not only their own lives, but everyone else who shares the same road with them.

Unable to afford new tyres due to financial issues or hardship? Then they aren't even in a position to afford a vehicle and its maintenance cost in the first place.

Come on, government laws across the world permits the use, sales or purchase of a used tyre.

They are NOT banned the world over.

There is a specific additional parameter in a used old tyre that is banned/outlawed, but a used tyre in itself is NOT.

There is simply too much of fear mongering phenomenon and myth on the subject onlines.

Car insurance policies across the world allow the use of used tyre(s) on PUBLIC roads, as permitted by local laws.

buy expired tyre on cheap. play drifting yeah

I still wouldn’t want to risk a blowup and damaging my wheel wells or body part, and worst is, i don’t want the risk of my ori volks wheels 14k by itself to ever touch the tarmac yo

Buying used tires is like buying used cars. When you buy used cars, it will come with used tires right?? Will you immediately changed them if they are still in good conditions and are good brands or models?? No right? Has anyone thought of that before condemning people who buy used tires??

I personally have bought used tires before especially when buying used rims, no issues as long as you inspect the tires properly. Heck I'd rather buy used tires of good models/brands than buying new but unknown China brand or whatever cheapo crap tires out there !

There are many reason why ppl letgo their roadworthy tires. One reason is the changing of size. Also, some just don’t like stock tire. These types can be obtained at a fraction of its original price and I personally think it’s a good deal. Most importantly, inspect properly.

A sane and responsible driver beats any safety aspects in modern car.

This I totally agree.

It's actually depends on many factor and where you park most of the time,
easy example :
A daily drive car parked outside all the time within 2 years rubber compound get harden grip won't be great especially wet surface even there's 5mm of tread, if you have to travel far with harden rubber tyre you always have to check for hairline cracks at sidewall to be caution blowout at highway speed.

Meanwhile a shaded parking car without being moist and direct sunlight, will last 5-6 years until the rubber compound get harden, but will also bare a cost of balancing more frequent because long park create high pressure point and the donuts were not circle like daily drive tyre.

The most important thing is to take care your air pressure at least once a month by following placard (usually recommend inflate when tyre is cool).
An optimal inflate tyre will reduce the unwanted wear not just tread but the most important part is protecting sidewall from blowout which is way horrible every driver to be experience.

LOL, seem your not into drifting or gymkana. A lot of us dont buy expensive tyre & sport rims for training. Most of us just use cheap rims and even metal type for training purpose. Those expensive rims only for show or when on-road doing normal drive.

For me, I am currently using 'used' tyres.
My Axia used 14" tyres only cost RM 50/pc , so thats Rm 100 a pair, vs a new tyre which cost almost RM 130 a pc.

And it works, being the oldest tyre has already clocked around 34K (and above the 1.6MM thread wear mark) and recently swapped from the rear to front.

And yes, I check my thread indicator very regularly, ensuring its still within the mark.
