Hi guys, I'm looking for something that is unlimited (no FUP) that can be shared. If there's a way around the tethering block that's ok too (I've got a private VPN running at home that I can connect to... ideally that will be shared as well). Doesn't matter if landline or wireless. Speed, as long as it is above 3-5 Mbps is fine.
The only big isssue: 24 months contract is a big no no. The connection will be used for 3 months a year at most. In other countries it is possible to pause landline connections for a lower fee. That'd be ok, but paying RM 100 a month for something not used 9 months a year, that's a bit much. Reasonable cancellation fees would be fine, providing own hardware would be fine (depending on what is needed of course).
Any suggestions?

https://www.maxis.com.my/en/broadband/maxis-home-4g-wifi/Don’t think you have any other legal option now. Use your own modem so no contract. A lot of people selling their huawei modems on Lazada or Shopee Cancel after 3 months Is this for holiday home? Why not switch your main home to maxis, then your phone lines and supplementaries will also get unlimited data (300gb fup after that just 480p video) but you can use that instead

Unifi air. Rm79/month. Should be rm81-82 with sst. Pick the no device bundle, can cancel anytime then resub again if u wanna use again. Obviously gotta use own wireless modem since no device bundle. The coverage is the same as unifi prepaid so go visit tmpoint to buy unifi bebas prepaid rm10. Should came with free 3gb data for speedtest on the location u wanna use the unifi air later.

This part is important... some of the connected devices need to use the VPN (watch local TV etc.). And correct, visiting home... Most of the time I'm overseas, so keeping any sort of contract in Malaysia would be a waste. Unifi Air needs very special bands, right? But I'll ask around relatives if they have a modem that can be used for Maxis or Unifi. Otherwise can buy.

Get a prepaid sim card and find a Huawei 4g router modem (if you have budget beyond Rm 200). At least if you happen not to be around for months and the SIM card gets terminated you can always get another one.
Speed entirely depends on area and telco. So there is no correct answer "which telco is the fastest"

Does anyone have experience with Unifi Air? They say they will do something against unusual high usage, but what is that supposed to mean? Maxis at least says 300 GB, though they do not say what they will do.

Maxis at least says 300 GB, though they do not say what they will do. Hi, I was formerly (and still keeping) using Unifi mobile (which is essentially using same tower) few years ago, before they started implementing FUP and "10GB hotspot" in December 2022. What they mean is , if you cross the limit, then they will slow down (throttle) your speed to 512Kbps (about 0.5Mbps). Thats why many are unhappy with Hotlink Unlimited's 50GB FUP. From personal experience, if your area is mostly Band 5 (which is Unifi Mobile) rather than Band 40 (Unifi air) then you will get speeds less than 5Mbps. Best to check the coverage here - https://home.unifi.com.my/personal/home/wir...adband#wttx-map
