Hey guys, I have a few questions about external HDDs. What are external enclosures? Are they just the case that provides data link/power to the HDD, meaning that I have to buy a normal 3.5" and plug it into the enclosure then plug that into my PC? Any recommendations on good external drive? smile.gif

wrong forum bro...

but basically, u've got the correct idea on external enclosures. Good brands are Maxtor and Western Digital. Samsung is cheap but not that reliable.

and 3.5" tends to be more lasting.. those with power adaptor are usually built for versatility and reliability.

as for casing, if Sarotech is over ur badget, I'd recommend u get one of those screwless ones - most of them with the "Vaio" logo engraved on them. Better than those 15 bucks one by far.

My 15 bucks one is now held together by tape. But still working! XD

Sorry, not sure where this thread would go. Anyway, thanks for the input. So basically I should get a normal 3.5" HDD and an enclosure? Any particular brands of external enclosure's to look out for?

ya.. i prefer 2.5",

if 3.5" need to carry along the power cord

I use 2.5" for half year and no problem untl now. The case i'm using is Zynet. Good case, slim and good-looking, can get it at lowyat, i think is around RM40-50.

cant't denied that Sarotech is better but expensive.

"Without a doubt, this is the thumbdrive for people for whom price is no object, because at $800 (for the 16GB version) and $2,800 (for the 64GB version), the Flash Drive Max can cost more than a well-equipped PC. "

that is insane sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif
