my senior also just left  not too long ago after they gave her a 4% increment after 4/5yrs or service(I got my +4% too then after about 3yrs service). So far I think my end is alright, been doing good in many ways and I am proud of it. But i'm at the stage where I am still looking for better opportunities...since im working within the embassy line..jobs dont come up too often..so Id rather take whatever I can get first before the next opporunity comes along.

Probably first, you'll have to check what's roughly the market rate. Example, for similar role in other organization - how much do they pay? What is the range of salary for a role similar to you? And where does your current salary falls in that range? Whether its at the lower tier or out of the range, or you're being paid within the average range? Find out the "gap". Then from the gap, how much is your expectation for a salary adjustment?

When you nego for salary adjustment, you have to:

- show the kind of value you bring to the organization (your achievement/ contribution or success), or,
- show the gap of earning (ie. current market rate is x but company is paying you 20% below market rate and you're unhappy with this), or,
- bring another external offer to the table and inform them you're considering it (FYI this is a bit more drastic that you're on the verge of leaving)
