Different feng shui masters have different rules and what not when it comes to this, except for a few generally common ones. Also what may apply to more older or traditional houses may not be applicable anymore to modern houses

In the end do remember feng shui is just a guideline. It is not supposed to bring you any stress. If can follow by all means go for it but if its not possible, then move on and dont think too much about it. The more you stress about such petty matters of course there would be negative emergy and bad things would happen

This is one good article to read. Regarding kitchen

It’s a hard one and a real test on your belief system when an authority figure effectively tells you your family will be afflicted by disease, marriage breakdown, career go nowhere etc. if enough people repeat this nonsense then it can really impact a property’s value.

Trying to work out some of the key feng shui ID which should be fundamentally similar for high rise since the layouts are all so generic nowadays.

1. If entrance looks straight into balcony, put up a partition or something to obstruct the direct path.

2. Sink should not be directly opposite stove. If it is, put in some kind of rug? (Not sure about this one)

3. Whatever quadrant of bagua you’re missing in the layout, you double up on the elements in your decor.

4. Don’t use blue colour or water features in your bedrooms?

5. Don’t have mirror facing entrances or the bed. Conversely, have a mirror reflecting your dining table.

6. Don’t have doors facing each other or the toilet. Fixable with crystals etc?

7. Always adopt command position layout for beds and desks.

8. I see some dispute about having ceiling fans in your bedroom but it’s not possible not to have them in our climate.

9. Use high energy art work in corridors and hallways.

Any other common issues that others are aware of?

1) The logic is that wind will flow very fast between the two and this can potentially be disruptive. My parents' place is a seaview condo and opening both the front door + balcony at the same time = a breeze so strong it can knock over plastic chairs. But they like the wind breeze + they use very old heavy wood/marble furniture, so it's not an issue to them.

2) This is mostly a safety+practical thing. Imagine having something cooking on the stove while you're prepping/washing dishes in the sink. You cannot see what's happening on the stove + if two people are using kitchen at the same time (common in the past because of multigenerational households/many servants) they're both in each other's blindspots, which causes risk of accidents. Usually this kind of workstation also means that the space between the two is narrow too, which potentially adds to discomfort and risk of injury.

Rugs hardly do anything (I'd argue it's a slipping hazard), but if the opposed kitchen/stove combination is your preferred workflow and/or you're limited by the kitchen design, just have to be extra careful.

3) IDK this works necessarily but it's kind of hogwash and doesn't apply to modern day housing (especially high rise which can have weird shapes).

4) Blue especially darker blues can be very dim/dark and feel depressing, and water is discouraged because stagnant water is a health hazard, while moving water might be too noisy to have restful sleep. Plus water increases room humidity, which is discouraged because it breeds mold. This one need to common sense if you need the humidity or not la. Personally I think that it might be messy and expensive if the water feature leaks/breaks and ruins bed furnishing.

5) If you've ever gotten startled by your own reflection when half awake and/or passing by a reflective surface while you're tired/distracted, you can imagine why having mirror facing bed or an entrance is a bad idea 🤣 imagine if you get heart attack if older. Meanwhile mirrors in dining areas give the illusion of spacious interior + facilitate conversation by having an extra place to watch your environment.

6) Safety/startling hazard for doors facing each other, while toilets are viewed as unsanitary + adds humid air. Rather than crystals, maybe open up doorways by removing door entirely/use curtain entrances rather than full door, while for toilet doors keep the toilet door always shut.

7) People have a subconscious dislike of having their back/blind spot left open and feel insecure/restless if their back is facing too wide of a space. In olden days beds without walls are a health hazard from cold winds. Having a wall to your back/behind your head when sleeping simply mitigates that safety instinct.

8) Fans attract dust + the wind might be uncomfortable facing your face directly while sleeping. Cleaning the fan would also be tricky if it's right above the bed because it's hard to access+dusty bits will fall directly on the bed. That said, plenty of SEA houses have fans above beds and we've survived so far, so eh.

9) This one... mostly just to stimulate the senses and reduce the feeling of being in "dark tunnels" by putting bright and visually interesting paintings in long halls. If hallway is short, just having sufficient lights is enough to "energize" the space.

The local feng shui masters are damn predatory. Pretty much told my friend their brand new 1500 sqft condo is a harbinger of doom. And the recommendations were so impractical and expensive like reorienting an entire bathroom.

Yup. It's become just another way to capitalize on people's fear and superstition.

Hence my point, move on with your life and dont think about it biggrin.gif the more you think about it the more that something bad will happen, this I believe. Negativity is not good.
