Was thinkin to get a used car, for me Volvo is quite a nice choice.
But i wonder why their aft market value is so low. ( year 2k selling 40K+)
Is it because many 'defective' case happened on volvo after few years? or maybe maintanance problem? its durable?
How is the performance of those cars?

Need some feed back from u guys.
Even better if have Volvo users here can share with me.

The market never lies... if the volvo is such a good car more people will want one therefore driving up prices. A friend of mine bought an alfa and the car spend more time in the shop than being driven by him.

i think maintainance for a Volvo is kinda pricey

Yup...the car is very reliable....but then, spare parts and service will cost u a bomb....if not mistaken, even the side mirrors cost near rm600-800 for a brand new pair

My dad owned Volvo S40 ( previous gen) and S60..Walao, the maintainance u gonna cry Beh tahan...so sold out edi

the main reason why is because the demand of the cars in the market is low...

malaysians are more towards brand like Mercedes Benz and BMW ...

Not really.
Few months back, I was scouting for the S80.
Even the year 2000, 2001 ones are still asking for over RM100k.

And Volvo is really a reliable,safe & comfortable car.

the icon of bmw is sporty while mercedes is luxury.. volvo have nothing.

BMW = sporty
Merc = luxury
Volvo = safety

Ok?

but the safety on other car manufacture almost same as volvo..

hehehe volvo only well know for always test crash their car.

I have come across some S40 and tried it, and driven a S80T year 2003.
Car is heavy. It lacks the pick up, eventhough mine was a T-series.
What you might expect from a Volvo is relatively a simple, no fussy gadgets design, a clean safe and comfortable car to drive.
As state here as well....if you ever want to do maintenance...you'll need to take a painful cut in your pocket.
Then again, if you get a good condition S40...it's a good catch. From what I know, Volvo hardly runs into any breakdown problems.

But at the price of 40k++, and if you are ever looking into continental...an Audi is quite another choice you might wish to consider.
Yr 2000, hits about 50k+, the non-turbo version.
Just find a nice under 150k, good history maintenance...and you're good. After all...when u drive an Audi, you're behind the dashboard of an aeroplane...hohohoh...

do get a Volvo with T5 engine. You'll be surprised on its performance.

My advice, if you wanna use a secondhand Volvo, never send them to authorised dealer (Federal Auto, Swedish Marque etc.) for maintenance. Instead opt for reputable independent workshops. The price different is like heaven and earth. That's why a lot of people would not dare to try a Volvo, especially the newer models.

yup maintenance kill u ....i got my s40 and everytime jsut go for normal maintenance price starts from rm800

so far only done twice maintenance...... the good thing is maintenance on this s40 is every 10k - 20k so u got long time to use........


value wise? yea kinda sad that my car drop value more than 50% already.......

agree! volvo is well known for their safety. I love volvo because they have turbo inside the engine. hehehe~

i think volvo maybe the only manufacture which test crash their vehicle more than other manufacture. and true volvo invent many safety technology but other car manufacture also copy their technology.

safety on bmw or mercedes also quite equal to volvo mah..

Audi & Benz also got mah.

Audi with their TFSI engine while Benz with the Kompressor.

No...u cant say that. Each brand of cars such as BMW, mercs and etc also hav their own technology.
I suggest you go for Volvo showroom, test drive and do research about volvo cars

P/S : I think you do hav any knowledge about Volvo cars and u sound like HATE volvo very much

ya i haven't drive any volvo before. but i know lah volvo are good in safety with their own safety invention. they sacrified many car for test crash in the name of safety..

however i also believe the safety of bmw and mercedes won't far from behind. that what i mean
