Dude with due respect you don't have to open a new thread everytime. Even if there were some off topic posts in the other thread u shd have just kept it alive. You can't expect every post to be meaningful and simply close the thread if it doesn't suit u.

Real Madrid makes an unprecedented move

Spanish champions Real Madrid want the Spanish football federation to show more respect for Raul Gonzalez.

According to sports daily Marca on Tuesday, Real president Ramon Calderon has sent a letter to federation president Angel Maria Villar asking for "more respect" for Raul - and asking for national manager Luis Aragones to be "less aggressive" in public with their captain.

It is unprecedented in Spain for a club to send a letter to the federation complaining about the treatment given to a particular player.

On Monday Calderon told TeleMadrid that he hoped Raul's international career "had not finished".

Calderon's letter has been provoked by Aragones's angry reaction, last Friday, when asked by a reporter from La Sexta television channel why Raul had not been called up for the crucial game away to Denmark.

Aragones angrily asked the reporter "how many European Championships and World Cups have we won with Raul?"

Raul, 30, has not played for Spain since October 2006 - after 10 years as automatic first choice striker - as a result of an alleged feud with Aragones at the 2006 World Cup finals, when he started on the subs' bench.

Aragones: Bojan Too Young For Euro 2008
Luis Aragones has declared himself unwilling to select Bojan Krkic of Barcelona for Euro 2008, but he will perhaps try the youngster out in friendlies instead...

it seems raul will have more chance to play euro 2008.
we need raul always score for madrid.. then aragones will open his eyes icon_question.gif

according to current perfomance,Arbeloa still behind Antonio Lopez and Mariano Pernia
it hard to Arbeloa get the place in Euro2008,maybe he can try RB spot but as sub since Sergi Ramos already be Aragones`s 1st choice or play as CB alonside Puyol but Arbeloa must beat Pablo Ibanez first

It's the same story with Spain every time isnt it. Big expectations just before the tournament before disappointing when the going gets tough.

He wears no.7 in Valencia too. Number 7 doesnt mean it's for a creative winger only.

Torres + Villa is deadly enough.
Last time they have Raul and Morientes and now Villa + Torres.
Well if you see from the back till the front, Spain no doubt had the class and quality.
Hope Spain can win it. smile.gif

Fabregas getting the number 10 is an odd one because that number is usually reserved for the best player. It is tradition in Italy, Brazil, Spain etc. Capello has identified Gerrard as the driving force behind Englan thus giving him the number 10. It is a great honour for Fab, lets hope he lives to expectations.

I was more surprised that Sergio Garcia got called up. Look at his club.

So, who'll be the first 11 ??

You are mistaken tongue.gif
He wears No 4 for Madrid

For me it didn't matter too much that Raul didn't get called up. Spain has many options upfront anyway. But imo Guti should have been called. Sometimes in tight games u need to throw in someone to change the game and there aren't many better ard than Guti. He can unlock even the best of defences with his vision.
Joaquin's omission doesn't surprise me; he hasn't really stepped up to the plate throughout his career. Cazorla who is replacing him is an interesting player.

senna on the right?

whats interesting is the fact that aragones has called up so many central midfielders: xavi, cesc, iniesta, senna, alonso, de la red, so with that in mind he might be planning to play a 4-3-3?
perhaps something like this?

--------------Iker---------------------
Ramos-Puyol-Marchena-Capdevilla

Juanito is Juan Gutirrez, no 20 in the list..and yeah, pablo ibanez!!where is he?he is good right?he even was rumored to join real several years ago, and then later had to apologize to atletico fans when the deal broke down..

based on his performance for valencia, i doubt marchena is good enuff to be in 1st 11..pernia and antonio lopez also didnt make the team..

and if u check the team list again, errr, where is atletico's players????

Oh.

Well, even Albiol's in the squad rclxub.gif All hopes on Real, not Athletico for defense *hint* laugh.gif

Last night, me and my mate experimented in PES, which turned out deadly. This is the squad we tried out:

--------------Iker---------------------
Ramos-Juanito-Puyol-Capdevilla
------Alonso-----Xavi-------
-------------Cesc----------Silva-----
-------Villa---Torres---------

Another victory before the Euro begins this week. Looks like Torres and Villa play up front once again. But it all down to Aragones whether to line up the both of them in the starting lineup when the competition start. After all he has been adopting formation to 4-1-4-1 in recent games. Would be excited if he opt to play Torres and Villa up front. A lethal combination. drool.gif

QUOTE
The impressive David Silva was then presented with a shooting chance following a slick one-two with Valencia club-mate Villa, but the midfielder's effort was deflected for a corner.
Looks like David Silva have a great game for Spain as well. It could up his offer from clubs around Europe if he keep on performing like this.

huh! finally a thread about the perennial under achiever.
a nation with so much promises in football but always end up with nothing when it comes to big competition.
spain's only notable success was the european cup somewhere in 60s.

hopefully this time they will come good. it's about time for them to kill off the tag of perennial under achiever.

all the best to torres and co in this euro competition.

If you call Alfonso Perez, Pedro Munitis and Vicente Engonga world class players, yes we had strong squads all these years laugh.gif

Seriously, this is the year where we had balance in every department of the pitch:

Defense: Casillas and Sergio Ramos, bests in the world
Midfield: Cesc, Xavi and Silva could do no wrong atm
Forward: Look no further than Fernando Torres biggrin.gif Oh, chip in the wingman, David Villa

If I were Aragones I would start with Santi Cazorla, he is a natural winger and does get a few goals too. Silva is actually a central attacking midfielder, he is not naturally a winger even though he is played there for Valencia. Carzola if given games could be a star this Euro's

spain just like england. no luck at big tournament. i'm not trying to degrading spain or something but with superstar player they had (-minus the media overhyped publicity) they could have win EURO at least.

EURO this year is a perfect stage for them to show the fans what they are capable of. i'm rooting for spain for many big tournament like World Cup 06. they start good but lost to france in Quarter (am i rite?).

in term of success, spain is far behind from italy, france, germany (europe) & of course argentina & brazil (world). with so many rising stars like many of u guys mention here, this squad is capable to win something in the next 10 years.

Sorry I would have to disagree the comparison between England and Spain. English players are less talented or technically gifted as compare to the Spanish. It is clearly evident the football style deploy by the Spanish as compare to the English as the respective league for each country is a good examples.

After saying that there is similarity in those teams as both of them are under achiever in the national stage. I think the English press are more demanding and slate the national team whenever there is an opportunity or weakness. While the Spanish media are far less intrusive as they are not really interest with the footballer personal life.

Spain have qualified for 15 times for major tournaments out of 16 attempts, an excellent record by any comparison. On the flip side, their only achievement is finishing as runner-ups once. Like the All-Blacks, they choke in major tournaments.

not really. If what u said is true, Morientes wont have any problems settling in with Liverpool. And dont forget south american players. They have good techniques, but how many of them can play in the EPL ? (kleberson, veron, etc)

as the matter of effect, yes, spain had many talented and quality player than england..spain had a young star talent like torres, ramos, adrian, and other compare to england..spain la liga had so many domestic player than epl which most of them outside of england..only 38% is england player..no wonder they lack of future prospect..the spain not just combines the young and experience but also campur aduk meh..sume serba cukup..england all da tua2..muda sume xhebat..so how to menang meh..

aku cakap bukan sebab ikut org se..aku dh compare epl dan la liga..dn aku tertarik tngok la liga..compa big team in spain n england..england byk pkai star luar compare spain..rugi dow..mcm mlaysia jgk..bribe change everything

is there any injury worry for spain now?all players are fit right?

i quoted this from soccenet.com..and i am attracted to those bolded lines...........

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

for the 1st bolded lines, is that news really true?that raul's way of handling of the team created some political tension in the squad---> for this question, i think mr. verx may have the complete answer smile.gif ..errr maybe i should tell that i already know this autonomous region thingy nod.gif

and for the 2nd bolded lines ---> i LOLed biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif ..he and i have similar music interests..

Looks like Villa gonna be the contender of Golden Boot. He can play upfront alone. Fabregas is offside but the scoreline already 3-1. Consider it as a bonus for him. huhuhu... Good game n hope they can maintain the form.

Torres and Villa combination run ragged the Russian defense throughout the match last night. If those 2 players is on form then Spain stand a good chance of winning this tournament.

I think Aragones is right about being caution about yesterday's performance. The scoreline didn't indicate how the game was being played. After all last WC Spain did really well in the group stages but were knocked out by the French in the 2nd round. So Aragones is right to play down the Russian result.

Viva Espana!!!!!!

nice hattrick from villa. sure his value will shoot up after the tournament.
about time for spain to get rid of their perennial under achiever tag and live up to their biling as one of the hot favourite in this competition.
bwign drawn in the easier group sure help!

For crying out loud will u Liverpool fans get a grip. Torres isn't the only good striker in the squad. In fact for the national team Torres has not produce consistently. If a lone striker is to be used it would be Villa leading the line. But I think Aragones will stick with the same lineup for the next game.

Agreed, was surprised to seen him getting beaten by Zhirkov if I'm not mistaken at least twice. On the othe hand, Capdevilla is a rock on the other flank. Ramos seems to be more defensive for Spain, didn't see him make any runs at all although Spain have no right winger just like Madrid.

euro competition is always full of surprises.
denmark and greece was a fine example of outsiders winning the tournament.
with 3 heavyweight already beaten, there is no better time for the likes of spain, holland and portugal to stamp their mark.

Torres and Villa is striking a beautiful partnership since the last World Cup. However I think Spain was abit fortunate to find the breakthrough once Zlatan equalized for the Swede. The Swede was solid at the back and wasn't give much and practically was holding out for the draw. The lost of Puyol cause major problem for the Spanish and the deputed Abiol isn't good enough.

Moreover I think the Spanish build up play is way too slow before the ball is deliver to the final third. If the Spanish is trailing they would be in problem if they keep on with current style of play. I think they need to sweep the ball much faster rather than passing the ball too much around.

That's an oversimplification of the Spanish style. Against Russia the ball was released faster to exploit the pace of Torres and Villa. Against Sweden it was different. Why? Because they were defending deeper with more men behind the ball. It's always difficult to find space when a team parks the bus.

i think spain's gameplay was as usual when puyol was on the field..once the backline have the ball, xavi would always come deep to get the ball, and spain's attack would start from there..when puyol came off, spain played like they never prepared any tactics b4 the game..kucar kacir almost everytime..iniesta also was having a bad game imo..

yes, both torres and villa scored goals, but i cant remember if there were any good move that they made together..is there any?so i cant say their partnership is very good..they still have rooms in to improve on their understanding

Verx, yestedray was the second time I've seen Ramos over 90 minutes and to be honest i still think he's bollocks at defending doh.gif
A better Risse who plays on the right would be how i rate him... how's he at center back?

ramos more to me as attacking role than as a defender... i dont know for his coach but for me it create a big gap at right back... coz he always 'lambat turun'... coz very syok to attack one... maybe for russia and sweden ok la.. but if you face arjen robben or c.ronaldo in semi final (lets hope) you will kena my friend....

I think Ramos is a good player however perhaps not the most discipline of defender as it is evident in the last 2 games where he failed to track back on most occassion leaving the right side of defense vulnerable to attack. Perhaps after the group phase he will be more focus on defense duty as there would be more capable opponent to exploit their weakness. His merit is his ability to support attack as he providing the width for the Spanish with his overlapping run on the right flank.

even iniesta had to cover ramos' position at times bcoz ramos was TOO slow to get to his position..quite frequent actually..but i still think ramos is the best for that position, as the other option for RB is puyol, but im sure puyol will be mainly used as centreback..wondering why aragones didnt bring atletico defenders along (pablo, lopez, pernia)..they maybe had a bad season, but still they can offer several options to him for the defence..i think this team has to many midfielders..

I think the Italians might sprung a surprise against the Spanish. After all in the last World Cup no one gave France a chance when they clash against the Spanish who was convincing in the group stages just like now.

Although the lost of Pirlo and Gattusso from the team the Italians still have ample replacement apart the lost of Pirlo as he is the creator most of their attack. I think the Spanish need to approach this game with abit of caution and don't get carry away with their group performance. If the Spanish can retain their game plan just like the Dutch I think the Spanish attack can trouble an ageing Italian defense side.

over confidence, much? sweat.gif we have to play italy, avoid getting beaten again and then avoid getting a dutch trashing before playing most possibly portugal or germany in the finals. i wont say for sure, but more like a maybe.

spain will win over italy IF they have plans to mark toni..i think toni is italy's most dangerous man..he has juz been unlucky so far, thus no goal for him yet..still he showed that he he has great strength and good headers to set up his teammates..for me, our central defender is the key in that game..if they can keep toni out, then italy will be heavily paralyzed..hope they can learn somthing from gallas, abidal, and boumsong..

Too many people is overconfident that the Spanish will making it to the final although they are yet to play the quarter final game yet. Personally there are areas in the Spanish game need to be improve if they are to progress through against the Italians. Currently Puyol, Silva and Carzola is rated doubtful at the moment. The trio might miss the game against the Italians. Especially the absence of Puyol would be sorely miss him as he is the most solid defender in the squad. When Raul Abiol came in he look pretty shaky against Zlatan and if Puyol doesn't recover on time most likely that Abiol would deputize. Certainly there is a possibility that Toni can cause similar problem as Zlatan to the Spanish defense. Moreover after the Italian has managed to scrap through the group of death surely the confidence is quite high. In addition in this stage of the tournament the Italians will come good. Hence you can't easily discount off the Italians threat. The Spanish can easily be off home after the quarter final match.

I don't want to sound pessimistic however it is good to be grounded. I'm not saying the Spanish will be out against the Italians as I'm rooting for them. Just that too many recent poster is writing off their opponents even before the ball is kick yet. I would rather see the them playing first rather than blindly say that they will definitely win the game.

Viva Espana!!!!

Italy are one of those teams that traditionally Spain have a hard time getting past in these type of tournaments. So it would be foolish to write the Italians off so early.

Let's hope David Villa could repeat that feat with a beautiful strike like he did in the last meeting.

Moreover Carzola even feature in some stage in last night game. That could be good as he is useful coming out from the bench. Let's hope Puyol could recover in time against the Italians.

Seeing how Germany defeated Portugal, I'm abit wary of Spain's ability to defend set pieces. No clean sheet so far in the tournament and if it continues it means we would have to score at least 2 goals.

I think if the Spanish can out score the Italians then they should progress as I can't see the Italians scoring that many goal with their current crop of players. Moreover with the lost of Pirlo they could lack the creative spark from midfield.

But definitely Villa n Torres must score 1st for the spain..coz if Italy score 1st,its hard to break their defend after that.

toni is our biggest threat.. not forgotten Pirlo. his free kick is danger.. Spain can make some opportunity if they can use villa as a bait and torres will have some space i think to make goal since villa is no.1 Spain striker at the moment. we have a 2 striker great striker at the front line. notworthy.gif

Pirlo is suspended so that should help us. With Villa and Torres upfront we should be able to score.

so far i think Aragones will stay with the same line-up like first two match while Italy should be like this

-------------------------Buffon--------------------------
---Zambrotta----Panucci----Chiellini----Grosso------
Camoranesi-Ambrosini-Cassano-De Rossi-Perrotta
--------------------------Toni ---------------------------

If we can keep it tight the back against the Italians we should stand a chance of progressing through to the semis. More so if Torres and Villa keep up their goal scoring ability the Spanish should come out triumph in this clash. However over the years, the Italian usually come strong at this stage as clearly evident in the last 3 nights where the under dog were successful to the semi final. Span shouldn't under estimate the threat from the Italian and history doesn't favor them either as the Spanish have not beaten the Italian in major competition over 30 years apart from the Olympic. Perhaps this year could be the different. I'll keep my finger cross that the Spanish will come out triumph in this clash.

Can't see beyond Spain. Remember how Torres single handedly demolished the Inter defense? I can see an exact carbon copy here and Panucci isn't exactly the most convincing defender at the age of 35.

Indeed we can't judge how a country team perform by seeing how the players perform in their individual club. For example, Malouda. smile.gif but from the previous matches I watch, Spain is posing a real threat to Italy. If Italians want to win this game, they need to work real hard. But I favor Spain to win this game.

me too wants spain to win this game. but honestly i would say it is a tough game. italy is quite offensive and so does spain but one thing i dont like about spain is their poor defence. anyway good luck to spain

Both xavi and iniesta slow down our attacks alot.

But cazorla hasn't been much influential after coming on, either. Why not play 3 forwards, since Villa drifts to left wing most of the time anyway.

Spain play moderately against a determine Italy side. On numerous occassion the Spanish find it difficult to break down a well organise Italian side. When the game went to penalty shoot out I would expect that the Italian to win it based on their history on penalty shoot out. Credit to the Spanish for digging deep and manage to prevail in this encounter.

Casillas was definitely man of the match as he made 2 crucial saves from Camoranesi as well from Di Natale. More importantly was his 2 saves in the penalty shoot out. Fabregas did well when he came on as well when he came on. Was involve in most of the Spanish attack as he is willingly to collect the ball and pass the ball to initiate their attack.

Ramos was once again poor at right back as most of the time gave possession deep on their own half. Same goes for Iniesta who had a poor game either flank as he was easily rob of possesion. Cazorla should come in against the Russian as he was more involve as he replaced Iniesta. I was puzzle with Aragones decision to take of Torres. Although Torres didnt have a good game but with his pace and scoring ability surely pose a bigger threat than Guiza. The introduction of Guiza didn't change much to the game and when he missed the spot kick it could so nearly cost them the game.

I on the other hand think Ramos is slowly improving... at least he tries to defend nowadays as compared to the opening game against russia.

I thought Ramos had a decent game. He lost possession one or two times but it was mostly in the center of the field not in the deep end. He played some nice passes out of defence too so I don't really get where all the negativity is coming from. He didn't contribute much going forward; it seemed like Aragones had him tied on a leash as he hardly bombed forward like he does for us.

I think the problem is with the way Spain are playing. They play a narrow midfield which means the width has to be provided by the fullbacks. When fullbacks go forward to support the attack I don't think you can really expect them to rush back to defend in time. The midfield has to be responsible to cover for them. I think it's one of the reasons why Ramos is now being told not to go forward so much with Capdevilla given the license to support the attack instead.

I bet you it will be another restrained performance from him against the Russians. Gus Hiddink is too shrewd a manager to be suckered twice - he'll put someone on Xavi and have his players attack the fullbacks. If anything, Xavi's a tad too slow IMHO, same problem as Alonso has in the BPL. At least with Liverpool, we used to think that this is due to Gerrard, Kuyt and Babel not being smart enough to make the runs and 'create' the space for Alonso, but Xavi struggles even with Villa, Torres and Silva making those darting runs in front of him and having Senna as a minder to protect him sad.gif Time to let Fabregas and Alonso have a chance to prove themselves perhaps? Xavi and Ienesta aren't exactly on fire are they?

Yeah it will be. Especially with Arshavin available now. He has to be doubled up. The problem with Xavi and Iniesta is that they are so used to the slow possession game and they have had poor seasons for Barca as well. It's one of the reasons why I wanted Guti to be included in the squad as his eye for a pass is second to none. That said I think Fabregas should start the next game. I don't think Senna will be sacrificed as he has been playing very well.

I don't think Alonso would come into the team as he play similar role like Senna. It is most likely that Xavi would be drop in the next game to accomodate Fabregas. He is quite influential when he came on as a sub in last night game. I think Spain would find Russia won't be that easy to play like the first time. Russia has significantly improve over the course of the tournament under Hiddink. Like most of you pointed out Spain width is coming from their fullbacks. At the current moment there is no natural winger in the squad as most of the midfielders then to drift inside. If Aragones include Joaquin in the squad perhaps he has that option in his disposal. I haven't watch much La Liga nowadays to judge his performance for Valencia. Perhaps the poor form in club level is the reason why he is not being selected in the squad.

this is absolutely the problem for spain..you see, 4-4-2 system is usually a high tempo system, and normally require wingers..to add speed and width to the gameplay..

when aragones picked up his final squad i thought he will play with 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 system..there are only 2 wingers in the squad: cazorla and silva..the rest of the midfielders, are playmaking-minded..hence, i think its logical for aragones to play a system that give room for his midfield to demostrate creativity..

iniesta certainly cant play in winger position for god sake..he dont have the speed..and playing there didnt give him enuff room to demonstrate his creativity..moreover he was up against tough italian defenders..how can he do the winger's job..even cazorla, a winger, had dificulties to play during the match..

its not that im suggesting that playing with 2 strikers is bad for spain, but i think with the set of players that spain have for the tournament, spain have to play 4-3-3..maybe silva-torres-villa combination upfront..and xavi-senna-iniesta in midfield..

and i dun think cesc performed much better than xavi..cesc oso have difficulties similar to iniesta's..lack of room in in midfield..and guiza cant connect well with his passes

Personally I don't think Silva is a winger. He is more like an attacking midfielder as he tends to drift into the centre. That is the reason why Spain is using their fullback to provide them the natural width. I think Hiddink might employ the same tactics like the Italian as the Spanish are unable to score. This time it might work as Russia play really well against Holland and confident must be high in their camp at the moment. Aragones would have to come out with a formula to outwit Hiddink.

but he certainly can play as one of the three-pronged forward line..this type of attacking line doesnt require wingers..they juz need forwards that are creative enuff to unlock the defence..once the forwards unlock the defence, juz imagine how effective those superb passing ability of iniesta and xavi can be..

maybe some would say iniesta's pasing is not that good..actually i think he didnt performed really well to his true standard..most probably bcoz of his position

and i believe the reason why xavi had to always hold the ball is bcoz villa and torres didnt do their job, defence-penetrating forward runs..believe me, i know this bcoz this also happened when xavi played for barca this season..

anyone remember tiki-taka word?that means pass and move..and spain were widely claimed to use this tactic for this tournament..against italy this didnt happened..

to summarize, i think if aragones wanted to play like this, he needs to change to 4-3-3..i believe cesc also can be more effective with this system as he will be allowed more freedom bcoz there 2 more midfielders at his position..cesc or iniesta in the middle..either one..but for aragones, xavi is very important in his gameplay..bcoz many of spain's attack will start from him..defenders always passed the ball to xavi after they get the ball from opponents..

With all due respect a midfield trio of Xavi-Senna-Iniesta is doomed to fail. It hasn't worked for Barca and there is no reason it would work for Spain as well. For a midfield 3 to work you need a dynamic player who can play from box to box. The only midfielder capable of doing that for Spain is Fabregas. And you can't say Villa and Torres didn't do their jobs. Xavi just didn't release the ball quick enough to exploit their pace. It's difficult to play the tiki-taka style when you have forwards that are more suited to the direct system. So who do you sacrifice? Villa/Torres or Xavi. It's an easy choice in my book.

that is why i said earlier, xavi has to be kept in the 1st team..senna has a guaranteed place..and that one slot left is up to aragones..either iniesta and cesc..

i picked iniesta earlier bcoz..hmm..maybe bcoz im barca fan? tongue.gif ..but i admit cesc maybe more effective than iniesta this time

so my answer is, iniesta should be sacrificed to bring cesc into the team..others should be kept

still, the shots are all gud enuff, considering how the italians defended..all defenders were concentrating on preventing any hole in their last line, while the midfielders, especially ambrosini, and sometimes even perrotta, always closed down on spain players who attempted long shots..

against such defending tactics, there are not many attackers who can manage accurate long shots..silva should be credited for his efforts

for the 1st time in Euro, our squad will wear golden yellow jersey laugh.gif

QUOTE
No yellow peril for Spain

Eurosport - Tue, 24 Jun 15:40:00 2008

Spain are not worried about wearing yellow shirts in their Euro 2008 semi-final against Russia despite it 'unlucky' in the country.

Spain are nominally the 'away' team in Thursday's match in Vienna and are obliged to wear their second strip which has been switched from traditional white to golden yellow.

The change for the match is necessary to avoid a colour clash because Russia, like Spain, wear red shirts.

"As far as I'm concerned it's fine, I'm used to playing in yellow," said midfielder Marcos Senna whose club Villarreal play in an all-yellow strip.

Spain team mate Xavi said he was also unconcerned about the colour change.

"If I remember correctly we played in yellow when we beat France (in a friendly in February, pictured) so I hope it brings us luck again," said the midfielder.

Spain coach Luis Aragones has an aversion to the colour. He could not abide Atletico Madrid's yellow away strip when he was coach of the Primera Liga side and refused to accept yellow flowers when Spain arrived at Dortmund for the 2006 World Cup.

The traditional Spanish superstition surrounding the colour is thought to have arisen because French playwright Moliere was said to have worn yellow when he collapsed on stage performing Le Malade Imaginaire in 1673. He later died at his home.

Perhaps the referee doesn't understand the language as after all not all European players speak English. The referee can't assume that the players is cursing him with their native language and caution the player for that. Unless the referee itself understand the language. Moreover at times in the EPL the referee doesn't have the courage to award a card to big name players. A good example would be Rooney where he usually would curse at the referee at numerous occassion in the game. I think it is norm in the modern game and it is differ from one referee to another one.

somehow, i feel casillas will be the best player on the field again..im just amazed with his ability..his save from camoranesi is enuff to suggest how great his positioning is..

im juz hoping spain's attack can get better..

imo spain attack is briliant but their defence are poor. im not talking about casillas but i mean spain's defenders. from i watch, spain gameplay are very offensive and they dont really defence and im worried bout that. we cant keep relying on casillas alone right...

ermm... i do agree san iker is top class(shot stopper + recovery saves)...
and i do like him alot. n the whole spain team.

but he is not that good in handling crosses(wont tis offset the statement of good positioning) n set pieces.
prolly his not that tall comparing to other GKs.

hope tis time SPAIN CAN GO ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!

maybe you are right..spanish defenders are performing poorly..but imo we can always depend on casillas alone..the defenders should not let opponents do any super long shots..he should worry everytime crosses are coming into his penalty box though..the defenders seem like blinkered when dealing with crosses

since start i was hoping that spain will be in final... in group phase i think i very comfortable with performance (even with 2nd team vs greece)... little bit shaky vs italy in semi coz the italian superb in defending... and tonite may be a different russian side which they meet in group match... and still i hope TORRES will be a monster tonite... coz what i saw not the same torres as in liverpool squad...

I think after a long season with Liverpool, Torres look abit jaded as the tournament progress. He looks abit disinterested at times at some of the game that he played. Hopefully an opportunity to land a silverware for his country will spun him to perform tonight. I'm hoping that he could score at least a goal to boost his goal tally as he hasn't got the best record as a striker at international level.

cesc should replace iniesta if he is to be brought in..iniesta is not performing good right now, and cesc may give spain new ideas..
aragones has his reasons to keep xavi in his 11st eleven imo, and they are tactical issues..aragones view him as the link between defence and forwards, the task that he had done well in qualifiers and friendlies smile.gif

Villa out of final
QUOTE
Spain coach Luis Aragones says David Villa will miss Sunday's Euro 2008 against Germany.

The Valencia striker was forced out of Thursday's 3-0 victory over Russia on 34 minutes after pulling a leg muscle.

Villa, who helped himself to a hat-trick in Spain's 4-1 group success over Russia, will now sit out the final in Vienna.

"Villa will not be able to play the final - he has pulled a muscle," confirmed Aragones after their semi-final success.

Villa's place in the side could well be taken by Arsenal Cesc Fabregas, who impressed off the bench in their semi-final triumph over Russia.

i said initially that xavi should stay in the 1st eleven, bcoz i have my reason

i said initially that villa-torres partnership is not that good, also bcoz i have own reason

i said cesc could do better if he take over iniesta's role, also bcoz i have my own reason

i said torres has not impressed me, also bcoz i have my own reason

xavi scored this morning (a typical xavi goal, he arrived late into the penalty box), and assisted by iniesta --> 2 of my most favourite player btw smile.gif smile.gif

about the partnership, juz compare spain's performance in the 1st half (when the partnership was used), and in the 2nd half (this one really demostrate spain's true potential, which lie on its players' creativity)

and about cesc, he was forced to replace villa..and juz look how well cesc combined with iniesta..remember it was iniesta who picked cesc up beautifully before he crossed to silva..

and juz look at how well guiza controlled the ball before he scored his goal, and more importantly, how intelligent he is when he did that smart diagonal run behind the defenders, without been caught offside, and compare that with torres' touches while he was on the field

imo, with the system used in the 2nd half, ramos played a lot lot better than he did in entire tournament

marchena has been solid in defence

2nd half spain performance is a joy to behold, my friends

and now villa is injured, i think i rather give guiza the nod to start in the final as a lone striker

It was a good performance from Spain last night. Marchena and Puyol was solid at the back as they negate all of the Russian attack. While Ramos has improved significantly and played really well as he defended well against Zhirkov. Capdevilla and Ramos provide the width for the Spanish. While Xavi had a better game than his previous one and taken his goal well. Iniesta was impressive as well in the width position. His intelligent through ball carve open the Russian defense on numerous occasion. Senna once again had a solid game as he provided the cover in front of the defense. Silva also had an excellent game as his probing pass was a constant threat. Fabregas role was influential when he replaced Villa. It is unusual role for him as he doesn't play that far forward for his club but did exceptionally well. Torres has another game to forget. Wasted several good chances. Overall I think Aragones will stick with the same lineup in the final and Fabregas to replace Villa if he is ruled out with the injury.

to be precised, fabregas didnt played behind the striker when he came on...he only played there when xavi was taken off..when he came on for villa,he's playing as an attacking mid in a 4-1-3-1-1 formation..with xavi behind torres..only after xabi alonso and danny guiza on he played off the striker..but true he's excelled in that unfamiliar role though..credit to him rclxms.gif

agree..i hope spain will continue to use 5 midfielders and let guiza be the lone striker..already used the tiki-taka play as the key to unlock russian defence, now its time to use it on the germans nod.gif nod.gif nod.gif

iniesta was the man of the match for last night game

QUOTE
'Fantastic movement'

Jean-Paul Brigger of the UEFA Technical Team – who selected the Man of the Match award after viewing the online vote on euro2008.com – said of Iniesta's display: "His movement was fantastic. He was involved in every attack as the playmaker and the Russians had a real problem dealing with him. He played a fantastic pass for the first goal and was involved in the third with a lovely pass to Cesc Fàbregas in the build-up. From our side he was the best player on the pitch. Congratulations to Spain who are a really big team, and also to Russia who played a fantastic tournament."

fabregas is my hero. the moment he he was subbed in, i felt the game change. without him, it mite have been like the first half. he really deserves a place in the finals. but i am worried about villa. we need him against spain.

villa has been ruled out. i feel sad for him. but still, absence of villa did not make it difficult for us yesterday. when torres subbed out also, it was not a bad decision. bringing cesc in was the best decision ever. hope he can cary on this form till the finals and win it for us. wish he had scored a goal

Ballack doubtful for final

Germany captain Michael Ballack is doubtful for Sunday's Euro 2008 final against Spain because of an injury to his right calf.

Ballack missed training on Friday back at the team's base in Tenero and he was unable to join the eve-of-match session at the stadium in Vienna on Saturday.

"Michael Ballack has not been able to train the past two days," Loew said.

"On Friday, he had a problem with his right calf, the muscle has hardened and today he couldn't possibly train so we'll have to see how it develops overnight." [+]

Like an article in Soccernet, Ballack out or not, Germany is still play collectively, rather than relying on certain individuals.

Im praying that we don't choke now; my heart had been stabbed numerous times since 1998's Nigeria horror.

The German should be dangerous from set piece as usual. Moreover Germany will most likely play the counter attack game and seat back absorb the Spanish attack. So the Spanish should play their usual game and hopefully their attractive football can win the tournament as compare to the previous one. Fabregas should play an important role tonight as Villa is set to miss this game. His ability to release the ball quickly could come to play to unlock the resilient German defense. More so Germany defense hasn't be that solid rock as they have shipped in 6 goals as compare to Spain have managed to concede 2 goals. Pace could be another factor in tonight's game. Hopefully Torres will rediscover his club level form as his pace could be key to unlock the German back four. Over the course of the tournament his constant pace have unsettled oppositions. More so with the German centre back which isn't bless with the most pace defender in Metzelder and Metersacker.

Time to put things right and shed the tag of under achiever. Viva Espana!!!!!

as long as aragones starts fabregas in a 5-man midfield, the spanish should dominate the midfield.
then we'll see germany playing lots of long balls.

long ball are dangerous for spain too. as they dont have many tall players and german headers are killers. just hope spain could be able to dominate the game and score as early as possile.

Silva has been quiet but he's done his role defensively so you can't really fault him. It's a team effort after all.

The game is not over yet...still got officially 45 minutes...so we need to be more careful as our center back seem to loose some ball to much.

Can't wait for Guiza to get on the pitch laugh.gif
A little change might worth a lot... who knows. Probably gonna take Torres out on the 3rd quarter.

Fantastic game from the boys. 2nd half must have been extremely frustrating for the Germans laugh.gif
