I am currently working in Selangor manufacturing company (Top Glove) as a Procurement Executive with RM4700 per month. I am thinking of going back to Ipoh and has received an offer from UNISEM RM6000 with the same position title. I am 29 this year and graduated from Quest International University Perak with degree in Business Admin. Should I settle down in Ipoh or find a new job in Selangor? My family is living in Ipoh in a 3200 square feet semi D. My room rental in Selangor condo is RM800 per month. From the current offer, I will have a more comfortable life if going back to Ipoh as I am able to live with parents in semi D and buy a new Honda Civic vs renting a small room in Selangor condo and drive Myvi. However, I am not sure if to settle down in Ipoh?

If it were me, I would move to Ipoh, keep the Myvi, and save as much as I could. Would be solid by 35. Depending on how much you contribute to the household expenses, at most you'll have an extra 100k in hand. Plenty to start a side hustle with. In the meantime can think about that side hustle and take time to learn anything that's related to it.

P.S: RM6000 is not that much to begin with. You'll regret getting the Civic.

I'm not sure if my expected salary RM6000 is low during the interview with UNISEM for Procurement Executive as I know that my Procurement Manager in Top Glove salary is RM9300. I have a degree and 6 years experience.

go back to Ipoh, take the 6k offer, and keep the Myvi at the moment.

don't simply upgrade your mode of transportation especially when you have no other car to spare.

I'm not saying that RM6000 is low, I'm saying that there won't be much left if you start spending on unnecessary stuff such as the Civic. Have some delayed gratification. Save more than you spend if it's even possible. Your future self will thank you for it. I wish I hadn't learned it the hard way.

Because my current commitment is RM800 rental + RM500 myvi. If I were move to Ipoh, I will be paying RM1300 for a new civic so the commitment is same.

I would take that 1300 to invest in blue chip stock to increase my financial stand, unless I have a family that need a bigger car

I have so many points to justify not buying a myvi.

1.
Save 1300 for 2 years = RM RM31200.
Buy civic 2 years later with extra 31200 downpayment. Save ~ RM 5k in interest and you will have better salary that time.

2.
I am from Ipoh. You literary only need to drive 20-30KM perday cause Ipoh is so small.
Unless you live like Klebang drive all the way to Unisem Simpang Pulai (Total 50km)

3.
Buy civic now, double your car maintainence, tyre change, petrol cost...
Oh also Civic car maintenance is not fixed 10k KM. it can be as early at 5k KM due to turbo.

4.
What happens if you move back to Ipoh.
2 years down the road you dont like it at Ipoh because career no potential.
You move back to KL then rent again with civic loan.
Can you assume your salary is more than 6k then?

Dont be like me, earning double your current but half of it goes to loan, mortgage and necessary bills...
No emergency savings or fund to buy some entertainment. (Travel and so on...)
You will regret it.

Go back Ipoh bro.
Property cheaper there, no need jam balik kampung oso.
It's not like Ipoh is an ulu place, you can get everything you can get in KL.
U are getting into 3 series, so need to start plan long term for settle down, where best to start a family etc..
Civic or not ...if you can control your finance well, buy what you want.

working back in Ipoh with RM 6k is a no brainer decision for me. Nevertheless, I understand where you are coming from if you are a person who likes to move out to seek new life rather than staying at your hometown.

Question goes back to you.

- What are you seeking after?
- Where do you see yourself 5 years or even 10 years down the road?

Job opportunities, options and career advancement is usually better in KV. If you're seeking to be more than just an Executive in the coming years and to stay on your toes (aka remain competitive), better not stay put in Ipoh.

However if you're seeking for better quality of life, and you'll remain happy with the new job offer with little expectation to be a corporate top dog in future - staying in Ipoh certainly fulfills that.

There are people who wants happening life, be around friends, enjoy social status, better financial security etc, and then you also have people who are not after money or status. They're contend with what life has to offer and wanted to build own family, spend quality time with them etc.

Assess what you REALLY want and your choice will be obvious. Btw nothing stops you from accepting the new offer, settle for the higher pay and then look for a new job back in KV (after several years) with an increased expectation. However by doing so you may face with different set of challenges in future. Then again, life is all about making decisions, not knowing what will open up for you nor the opportunity cost that potentially occur from your choice.

KL has better career advancement and professional growth. Ipoh has better quality of life and lower cost of living. Which one do you prefer?
