sry, newbie question. do ppl carry a can of chain lub for long distance travel? such as those that ride to phuket (900 km) and relub once reach the destination? or even hatyai?
*
advisable to bring...it doesnt take that much space and it isnt hard to apply if u have a center stand or if u have a friend to help. and itll help prolong ur chain as well.

QUOTE(jaycee1 @ Jan 13 2023, 01:22 PM)
My take on chain lube, correct or not, is that modern chains are sealed up o ring or X ring...and therefore doesn't need as much lube as previous chains.
*
i see the act of spraying lube on the chain as not only to lubricate, but the spraying may even help to blow off the dust n sand that could tear the o rings apart.

QUOTE(vexus @ Jan 14 2023, 03:48 PM)
use scottoiler solve all your headache.
*
depends on ur distance and if ur bringing the scottoiler oil. my friends and i are on scottoiler and we still bring chain lube instead of the oil coz the can is just more robust and less likely to leak. well start using the lube once our scottoiler finishes.

Hmmm… i never lube my chain since i took my motor and now 1.5k km ald… not sure if needed… but have been goinf thru heavy rain a few times…
*
U should so it lasts longer...the lube in the rollers is just for the rollers internal itself....external areas n ur sprockets r still susceptible to wear...lube can help reduce wear n make it last longer....

Im on scottoiler and my factory chain is at 56k km n still running strong...sprockets front n rear also still looks good n not sharp

Talking about shit happens scenario, I forgot to pack my spares kit (gear lever and bolt, clutch cable, throttle cable, spark plugs, some oil and brake fluid) on my last Thailand trip and nearly snapped my clutch cable midway back. Fortunately I managed to get back to ipoh to get it replaced. Shifting mostly without the clutch after I got on the highway.

Just goes to show just how a little brain fade might have got me stuck in Thailand.

Basic spares definitely needed in Thailand. It's not like they will have bajaj parts readily available in Thailand...for a honda maybe.
*
How old is the cable n how many kms already?

Also if possible along the highway, try not to ride on the emergency lane unless it's really necessary to avoid the jam.

Plenty of metal debris, not only nails that can puncture your tires.
*
july 2022 got 2 punctures in 1 week coz of this laugh.gif puncture was 1 screw and also some thin dawai which i think was from a tire's belt.

happened on different days but they were just about an inch apart.....

tire was Road 5... which supposedly is pretty prone to punctures.....

Last petrol station : Buraq Oil  https://goo.gl/maps/BXC7XhzKJzCenhEt8

Over here can buy Thai Sim Card, no Insurance Service.

Best you need to do at changlun then u turn to here.
*
oh damn... guess changlun will be the last stop for fuel and insurance before border...

interesting though... may try this border crossing one day

hi to all sifus,

would like to ask about the procedures crossing the border to thailand via kayu hitam.

When entering thailand.

Do i have to queue up at drive through immigration counter together with the cars
[attachmentid=11466059]

Or can i just park at the side and do my stamping at the walk in immigration building ?
[attachmentid=11466060]

I saw a vlogger who drove past(jump queue?)  all the cars queueing up at the drive through immigration counter for cars and park near the last counter and just walked over to the last drive through counter to get stamp. is that
allowed?
[attachmentid=11466061]

added the video at the current timestamp where he just enter the drive thru to get stamp by foot. is that allowed?

https://youtu.be/Q27989Sn9RM?t=927
Exiting Thailand

likewise when leaving thailand do i also need to queue up at the drive through counter or just enter the big immigration building to get my passport stamped, instead of the hassle of queueing up under the hot sun via the drive through immigration counter.
*
Jump que no longer allowed..have to park n walk in. But there is a special lane for motorcyclists combined with thai nationals lane

Hi sifus, Im planning to visit chiang mai later this year and just wanted to check if I were to apply for IDP using my D license, can I legally rent and ride a 125cc motorbike in chiang mai?

Like if I were to kena roadbloack can I just show the IDP?
*
I may be wrong but i think ur idp needs bike specific license?

If not mistaken thailand recognizes Malaysian licences right? But if u no appropriate malaysian bike license still kena saman

Okay, will update here whether going or not.. The main consideration is I'm going on End of July too by car for 4d3n coz of my birthday.. So I'm not sure if I should go or not on early July..  sweat.gif

For Malaysia insurance to cover Thai accident need extra endorsement.. If just the insurance we renew yearly here doesn't cover there.. BTW, as mentioned earlier, can skip buying, just be extra2 careful no insurance..
*
end of july ur bday? exact date?

ur talking about extension 101 right?

forgot this thread exists lol.... so wanna share my ride early sept. 2x versys 1000 and 1x z900.... the z900 dude's butt suffered... but he survived...

Went on a mission to collect all 3 certificates endorsed by the Tourism Authority of Thailand in 1 ride. Rode all the way to Chiang Mai to start our collection process and worked our way south for each cert. Totalling roughly 6.5k km travelled including other spots like the gorgeous Doi Chang which we skipped golden triangle for...totally worth it. Averaging about 7hrs ride a day with the longest being 11 hours. And 1 day rest in Hua Hin on the way back.

1/ Mae Hong Son full loop (4088 curves actually for full loop-theres also a cert for this so we got both 1864 and 4088 certs)

2/ Umphang Death Highway - 1219 curves and this was definitely the hardest route with alot of very tight switchbacks that goes straight into very steep up n downhills. Didnt help that it was raining the entire time. Also, 1 way in, 1 way out. So ull have to go through this road twice!

3/ Betong 100 corners - nice roads with nice views n corners but too many interruptions along the route as there were many settlements along the way as well as traffic.

heres the itinerary, route, hotels and hotel costs (couple of hotels pay at the hotel so its left blank). fuel was about RM1.5k

Attached Image

Notes:
1/ we left on friday after work to help cover some distance in advance n stayed over in alor setar.
2/ we entered via ban prakob border..first time for us. they did not give us the vehicle customs declarations forms. n we forgot about it too
3/ we exited via betong, the customs officer was upset we didnt have our customs forms. said the bikes are in the system but technically did not enter thailand. he said luckily nothing happened to us otherwise it could be a jailable offense. so he let us pass...it would be as if our bikes didnt enter thailand.
4/ somewhere between Hua Hin and Tak (not sure exactly where), we were riding through what looked like massive padi fields. this road is very long n straight. if u are ever on this road, there are a number of cross sections that u will go thru on the road. though it may seem like its your right of way, its NOT. make sure u slow down and stop if u have to. we almost t-boned a car at 120kmh... luckily the car had the foresight to slow, stop n let us pass.... n i saw on the road the line was for us to stop, not the car.

For purchasing insurance travelling to thailand, want to purchase extension 101, voluntary insurance and travel insurance. for bikes, if im insured with allianz i suppose i can only purchase it from allianz right?

and can i just purchase it from the outlets before kayu hitam instead of contacting the underwriter from the place i bought the bike from?
*
Yes, can only buy from ur insurance provider...tried before to get from a diff provider n cannot. N u have to buy directly from allianz so buy in advance.

But since ur allianz, u can contact ANF insurance (search fb) for all other thai insurances n they can also help buy 101 from allianz for a fee. It will take some time but definitely can be done as i did it before with them. But u still have to buy in advance.

Make sure to specify where u want to collect the documents. They have office in cheras (which i collected from) along with changlun n some other bordering towns.

If ur going thru a border that still requires a white card, they can do for u too...theyre like a 1.stop.shop.for all thailand related insurance... (101+CI+VI+TI)

Their after sales support is also pretty damn good n many.ppl who has had accidents in thailand swear by them...so u get that peace of mind.

Can check their fb for more.info

Remember to buy travel insurance as well for more peace of mind

Any tried bike warrior support from Thailand? Ie breakdown etc? Any good?
*
afaik bikewarrior doesnt cover thailand even with ext 101...

ur gonna have to get ur own tow to the border then only can get bike warrior.

i may be wrong about this but i remember someone telling me last time.

ANF Insurance has towing services for their customers. not sure about non customers.

If you wanna go to Golok, then just cross over at Rantau Panjang. but i don't think there's anything interesting in Golok.
Betong is better.

The most scenic route for bike i think is to take Karak, then exit to Bentong.
then to Raub, to Sungai Koyan.
from there i'd take the road to Ringlet, to Cameron Highland, to Lojing Highlang.
head to Pos Blau then to Gua Musang.
from Gua Musang you can take the road to Dabong, then Jeli
or you can take the normal Gua Musang to Kuala Krai, Machang then Rantau Panjang.

i'd take the long, scenic way if i'm on the bike.

But at 509km one way...with all the twisties etc...would have been a great route to break in a new bike lol

Yeah i used to looooovee sg koyan as well...was on that road once a month before covid.

After covid mcm semangat died off edi n somemore cameron is insane lately with humans n traffic so potong stim
