I want to hear your thoughts on this. Would it be okay to email my boss' superior, informing the superior of the outstanding work that my boss has done throughout the year? I feel like my boss is under-appreciated, and would face the brunt whenever the team has slighted, but not acknowledged for whenever things are going smoothly (which is 99% of the time).
So, is it okay? Or best to keep it to myself?

If your company a good company, your HR should already be scheduling a skip level session between you and your boss' boss.

- Does HR know your boss's work ethics well? - Do you know if the boss' boss knows your boss is hardworking? - Do other co-workers outside your dept know your boss is a good leader?
Often times, you don't have to do much if there are star performers. Their work will speak for themselves. If you go out of your way to say it - the recipient may take it the wrong way.

Must also see if it's some sme or mnc or etc. Sometimes if your boss and his boss is very kamcheng, it will hurt instead.

Getting Started

|
Just don't do anything. Your boss's boss may not like him for whatever reason. Your action may just make things worse (ie. going against the boss's boss direction if he really dislikes your boss). Just give your own appreciation (ie. meal, gift, card, etc) to your direct boss will do in my opinion.
