i also replace a new water tank 1600 L capacity on second floor open air rooftop in last year.
I bought s/steel water tank and the contractor just use the durable cable to pull it up from front roof slowly and carefully w/o crane.
ATKC Water Tank - cost RM 1550
Labour charge - RM 600

Hi, would like to seek everyone's opinion. my water tank is leaking as well but it's kept enclosed under metal roof sheet. Is it possible to "open up" the metal roof sheet to remove and replace the tank?

talking about waterfalls... I kana last 5 years before pkp. we went for holiday, when get back see waterfalls down from the second floor through the staircase.. knn. house not even 10 years yet.

when I checked , got two leaks on the main pipe joint before the tank sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

you see, they really cut corner on those things that u cant see. in this case, cheap pvc piping

May not be possible without damaging the roofing, and even then the roof truss might be in the way too.
Talk to your plumber, might be a way to open up ceiling instead.

>Turn off main incoming water pipe
>Fully drain tank by opening all your indoor pipe
>Access area through service manhole from 2nd floor ceiling / outside by removing some rooftiles
>Enter tank, patch with epoxy (like that fibreglass posted) or waterproof sealing tape
>Leave them to set as required
>Re-open incoming water and monitor

Maybe ask the contractors to some additional stuffs like fitting / float valve replacement as needed if they think you'd need. Prepare water in smaller containers for use in the mean time.

Water tank is installed inside the roof. Replacing it requires taking off big part of the rooftop and reconstruct i guess? Not sure the correct way. Anyone been this situation b4? Looking for a valid solution and for those who had experience how much does it cost for 4 u to replace?

do look for permanent solution. Patching would only be short term.

If you're to tukar the tank, compare the cost effectiveness 1st whether replace the tank via access through rooftile vs indoor ceiling.

Some rooftiles got layers upon layers of insulation, best not to touch those if you don't want to experience roof leaks when rain due to shitty contractor.

if you go via indoor ceiling, redo the access panel kasi bigger to accommodate the minimum tank size. Ugly because of thin lining, yes but for cost saving/practicality, you won't regret in the long run.

Patching done right can last a very long time and way cheaper than replacing the tank itself.

* Not all leaks can be properly patch.

You just contact this hardware vendor at below estore.
They may give you a few suggestion for installation. My contractor charged me for RM500 to dismantled and pull up the tank to the roof top and then install piping 4 years ago.

Yes, the usual black poly tank can be bought online and have it delivered.

Installation:
- The poly tank is not heavy; can be pushed and pulled up to the roof manually.
- The roof tiles can be lifted up and put aside.
- 1 or 2 of the supporting planks (for the tiles) would be removed or cut for the tank to go into the roof.
- Pipes disconnected from old tank and old tank removed.
- Put in new tank. Reconnect water inlet and outlet pipes.
- Check for water leakage.
- Replace supporting planks (and maybe replace using new planks); put back roof tiles onto their supporting planks.
- Done. Half day job.

can also inspect your roof beams first if dont wanna climb so high.
since tank bocor, ceiling gone already.

if small poly tank, can just take out ceiling and fit between roof truss.
if cannot fit between roof truss from below, it wont fit between roof truss from above anyway laugh.gif
