cannot expect Koreans to be as cheap as last time if they were to offer the full specs

but granted they are definitely better built that your equivalent Toyota or Honda

just whether people mindset can accept the brand. if they can accept China brands, why not Koreans?

Bermaz business model is of High Margin, Low Volume. Hence, the pricing position.

Compare the specs first. X90 will be using 1.5T engine, same as X50 if not mistaken

Sorento will be either 2.2 diesel, 2.5 turbo, or 1.6 turbo hybrid

if you want to put it that way.... you are paying 180k for a locally rebadged China car. still think you are getting a good deal?

BMW X1 is much smaller sized than Sorento. XC60 starts from 320k, and its not a 7 seater. if you are saying XC40, again its a much smaller SUV and totally different segment from Sorento. Malaysians always like to use price as a comparison but forget to compare by spec or by segment. Also the obsession over branding somehow makes it justified to pay more for less.

but if you ask me, i dont think X90 will cost 180k. more like 150 - 160k range

I just group the car by price only...it is standard when compare car nothing wrong .

At price above 220k, I think diesel may at 250k...ofcourse can compare with volvo x40, yeah smaller space..but more luxury with same price.

Price of the car play certain role. Sorento is a good car lah. Let's book bah.

Good car but gonna be hard to compete in our market at those prices. Some will say its fully speced and 7/6 seater, but most people dont care. The price already put them off

7 seater

X90 - 150k
CX- 8 - 177k
Santa Fe -190k
All space -200k
Sorento - 220k

Sorento is most expensive, with such uncompetitive price...how would the sale play out.

Kia only have car above 230k for sale, except 1 CBU....Agent must be headache

Yes, it’s actually too expensive. But knowing Bermaz they have always priced their products out of the general mass market. LMAO.

Price increase is expected as most cars are now getting pricier.

But sorento's price jump is significant. Low spec sorenro rm220k vs full spec CX8 2.5T AWD rm220k.. amd mazda is touted to become a premium brand.

Dont know what is bermaz strategy for KIA.

Yes KIA is very reliable - i have a 6 yrs old kia with no mechanical issues.

Yeah me too, been driving my 10yrs old Sorento with no issues at all, infact just repainted last month for a fresher look.

I doubt Kia would price much higher compared to other similar spec'ed brands. Is this price and spec confirmed for MY market? I couldnt find any official news on it, most of the article says TBC, btw.

So much pricier than the last gen UM mad.gif . And upon going through the photos by PT, I noticed the followings "cut-cost" measures :
1. cheap spare wheel, UM got full size spare wheel with alloy rim
2. Driver seats without thigh support extender, only 2 way lambda support. UM has thigh extender and 4 ways lambda support adjuster
3. Interiour light compartment has not no storage for sun-glass
4. No front heat and ventilated seats !! Fxxk !!!
5. At the back from 2 front seats without USB port, unlike the overseas high-spec version. Boss switch is there.
6. No KIA original thick carpet, Bermaz only gives maggie mee carpet

Not so important features => (1) sun-roof (2) rotary gear knob (3) heated 2nd row seats (4) HUD
These few I don't mind

Based on Kia Carnival KA4 8-seater Mid Spec, One owner has successfully upgraded the AV system to include the Surround View Monitor but that is an after-market solution and not one by KIA itself.

Not worth the extra 50k IMHO. CX8 gives a far better value.

I am driving a 3rd gen Sorento UM, and my colleague recently bought a Santa Fe TM. I swapped my car with his for a test drive, and the following are the observations :

1. Sorento 2.2D is AWD, Santa (premium variant) is 2WD

2. Power/output, Sorento 197HP, Santa 190HP

3. Driving feel wise, actually the Santa drives better than my Sorento. Not sure that is because the Santa is new (less than 2k km ODO) and mine already with 55k km ODO. And the AWD system is taking a tol on the power delivery, it's more draggy from 0-50km/h when AWD is on. On the other hand, the 2WD system in Santa feel livelier, get go with less draggy feel.

4. Santa being half a gen newer than Sorento UM, it feel more upmarket inside the cabin. Outside it looks slightly better too. Sport rim also looks nicer.

5. Sorento UM (the facelift version) has full LED headlamp, but Santa looks like having halogen, it looks awful at night.

6. Fit & finish, Sorento is way better due to SKD (semi knock-down) or near CBU, against that of CKD for Santa. Santa has some squeaky noise here and there.

7. Handling, on town driving, Santa feel a bit better. Sorento feel much more nose heavy, don't know why.

Need to wait for official launch first before the cars will be available to showrooms. That is tentatively in March, and yet to be confirmed.

At present, no plan for hybrid yet. There is plan to bring in a BEV Niro instead, but that will be possibly end of this year or early next year

The car comes with FULL ADAS which comprise of latest technologies like

FCA - Front Collision Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning
SCC - Smart Cruise Control
LFA - Lane Keep Assist / Lane Following Assist
LDW - Lane Departure Warning
BCA - Blindspot Collision Avoidance Assist
RCCA - Rear Cross-Traffic Collission Assist
HBA - High Beam Assist
MCB - Multi Collision Brake Control
DAW - Driver Attention Warning

If you compare with the previous generation UM, it does not have any of the ADAS features mentioned above.
So one, has to look at the specs objectively.

Anyway, for the 2.2L Petrol 2WD version, it comes with semi fabric and semi leatherette and not full fabric.

What is semi fabric?

Don't get me wrong, I'm interested in this car. But asking opinions here, so far never see a 220k D segment car come with fabric car seat in Malaysia

The fabric seat design for the 2WD 7 seater 2.5L variant. It is FULL fabric but in 2 different textures. Sorry for the wrong info earlier.
