just to add extra color. took my dad to visit a cardiologist (not surgeon)... waited like 4 hours cos we were late. during the 4 hours, the number of patients were like 20 persons. My dad was pretty much the last patient. Each patient is being charged like 100 to 200 on average. So that is 4K per day at least. x 20 days say, so that works out 80K rm at least. (the nurse/helper to the doc explained that usually the mornings are very busy. Afternoon would be freer and that is when the doctors go do their rounds) This is just visits... did not include their ops. Those would be extra income.

QUOTE(jaapers @ Dec 12 2022, 05:27 PM) 80k to the hospital but how much of it goes to the doctor? This is private hospital... the doctor consultation fee goes directly to the doctor (I guess that is why they are called consultants). the hospital gets nothing from that. the hospital makes money from all the tests, medicine sold, operation costs, etc. doctors got expenditures of course. the highest usually is insurance. (btw, that 80K was just my estimate of normal patient visits/follow up fees. Does not include operation fees that we always read about how much is being charged) This post has been edited by Wedchar2912: Dec 12 2022, 05:38 PM

QUOTE(Avangelice @ Dec 12 2022, 05:26 PM) You guys seem to forget one thing. Alot of those gps you see lari tax cuz most patients pay cash. I know a doctor in Kuching gets his nurses to calculate cash collection every week end with cctv room. I know this because I hired that said nurse. Lol. On paper they make 10k clean minus clinic operations and staff gaji but can bring in nearly additional 20k clean cash tax free. Double if husband wife combo that works morn to night Specialist attached to hospitals hard to lari that's why most specialist will do locum/consults in clinics that accept cash then refer bck to hospital for ops interesting... no wonder i heard some of the doctors will tell their patients that they can do follow up at their private practices. Apparently its quite normal and patients gladly go to the clinics as it is cheaper.

QUOTE(jaapers @ Dec 12 2022, 05:45 PM) So every normal doctor visit, no need pay nurses (or maybe 5 bucks)? Doctor get free consultation room in the hospital? no lar... the nurses should be full time staffs of the hospital... consultation room... this one a old classmate of mine who became a doctor explained before. If the doc is very famous (ie brings in a lot of patients), the room rental is almost free. the hospital makes a lot of money from just marking up the medicine. First time I didn't realize so I bought 1 week worth of medicine for my dad from the hospital pharmacy. it came out to be almost 500rm. I went to outside pharmacy to purchase the same 1 week worth. 100rm thereabout. the hospital don't need to "tax" the doctors at all with this kind of margin.

QUOTE(jaapers @ Dec 12 2022, 06:37 PM) The nurse part don't really make sense to me. I go specialist visit, maybe 100 bucks, and 5 bucks for medical record update. If the whole 100 bucks goes to doctor, hospital doesn't earn anything, if say there's no medication or other services. for the 100% accurate detail, one would need to ask the hospital/doctor directly. what I know is not once my dad's visit to the hospital did not include blood test (that was like 200 rm)... and there is processing fee of like 10 rm. I guess the 10rm could be for the nurse... no idea. for example, the last visit (last month), the doctor consultation fee was 100, blood test was 185rm and processing fee was 10rm.
