Honda is probably gonna detune it to adv250
And slap an rm30k+ pricetag on it.

With an 180+cm height you'll be at home in some of the taller adventure bikes.
Try one with >80hp and you'll be addicted to the power. Nothing better than the feeling of power in between your legs

The most fun you can have with your pants on

Having said that, rode the ER6N at riding school, friend's Z650 and GS before.
Few things struck me:
- Too big and heavy feel esp ER6N, I dropped it twice at the driving school.
- Tend to forget the gear I am in,
- Too much work / training to train the muscle for a safe ride.
- Too much power, can be evil calling. Experienced this driving WRX, fella just teasing you all the time asking more from the driver.

I guess good thing with age comes sensible and practical.

I gone for bike license (never rode one all these years) because I wanted to get into those trails I drove by all the years, but unable to go in with a car or to enjoy the surroundings without getting off the car.

Also to go to some river mouth / sea side for simple fishing and sight seeing.

Hence under seat storage is important for me.

Initially have no intention to install top box.
Things change after getting a properly fitting helmet (for my wide head with spectacles), Shoei JCruise2.
Needed a box to tug it away.

As for the ADV350 that might be castrated by Boon Siew to 250, not much a concern at this moment.
The way Honda castrate 350 Forza to 250 was a very simple move.
They just gave it a new top set ie. cylinder block, piston, cam, injector and head.
Everything else is the same ie. ECU, drive train, cooling etc.
Modding it to 350 is cheap, simple (around 4~5k) and reliable as compared to those XMax type of mode.
That said, it's just an option, a very viable option.

Depends on the outcome of me manhandling the chonky scooter, I afraid I might move to XADV but I am still keeping check my riding skills and ability before proceeding.

Does the 390adv rattle much at 120?

I'm really looking at adding another smaller lightweight adv to my garage

120 is ok. It's when speeds get past 130 that it gets buzzy. The vibration control is better than the dominar but still present nonetheless. You will feel it after 30m to 1hr of riding at sustained speeds past 130.

To be honest, for the money you end up paying for the 390adv and options, the cb500x feels like a better deal for a small adv bike without much extra money. What the CB500X lacks in the fun department, more than makes up in comfort and reliability. Neither has exceptional ground clearance so "off road" will be limited to your tyre choices and gravel or broken tarmac.

If you are looking for a small ADV that would handle off-road, then maybe look for a CRF250 rally. It will be down on power, but again far more capable off-road than either if the above.

Hi there, just sold off gsa last year due to back problems. But the itch to buy a new adv bike is coming back. Since ive fix my back pain reasonably.

Any other lighter alternative out there, veering towards ktm but have a feeling might regret it without test ride. I usually wont buy anything big except kapcai without test ride.

Maybe a tiger 660 or 850. 🤔

The whole idea of healing midlife crisis is to get something unreasonable and outrageous and fun. Like a sports car. brows.gif

Good that you're still sensible in your choices.

I've tried the cb500x a couple of times.
Not fun at all. Not enough power.
I feel that the 390adv also doesn't have much power but at least it's light and I can jump it around.

Did considered the crf rally but no new stocks and used ones are selling at crazy prices.
2018 asking for 23-25k
2019 asking for 30k

New ones have sticker price of only 27.5k. But no stock and dunno when will arrive.

Now looking at kawasaki klx 250 and dtracker 250.

I managed toe to toe running uphill in Karak with a CB500X in this:

So yeah.. CB500X not meant for power riding.. but it sips fuel like Hybrid cars.. full tank from Rawang can reach Gurun to refuel..

Yeah the CB500 sips gas. You could get nearly 400kms on a tank. Quite amazing it gets better consumption numbers than my Dominar. Its great when you dont want to stop and fuel up, or go places where fuel is more expensive or gas stations are further apart.

I barely get 200kms before my fuel light comes on (about 10L from a 13L tank) even less at speeds over 120. The CB500 can easily get up to 350 before the fuel light comes on from its admittedly larger 17L tank.

400km average. Comfortable. You need a sofa. The gold wing is the right answer.

Super bikes will never be as comfortable. In fact SBK and comfort shouldn’t be in the same sentence.
