Im looking for second hand 250cc bike as my starter bike. I have several year experience riding on kapcai. Currently eyeing on ninja 250 and 250sl, should i skip the single cylinder?

250cc always brake your wallet. Since you're considering 2nd hand motorbike.

i think i would skip the single cylinder 250SL EXCEPT cost factor.

i have a 250R carb, maintenance + consumption is on the high side.

Single cylinder will save some.... not to mention lighter weight.

But 250SL resale value is poor. so u may buy cheap, sell even cheaper....

250R wont go wrong (fuel injected), 7-8k is a very good price

You can find plenty of used KTM 250..
If still want 2 cylinder, then z250 old models or not so popular benelli 249s

Get the kawasaki 2 cylinder bikes..fuel injected...dont bother with singles from any brand.... the SL are kawasakis lemons.

Servicing may cost a lil more depending on engine oil u use...but itll be reliable and will serve u well for a long time n parts will be easy to find.

For long term use and comfort , go with the two cylinder.

Single piston vibrates too much. You'll hate it.

Don't think the maintenance costs between these 2 is much different.

honestly no.. especially kapchais...they are cheap to run and maintain...

eg (my old GT128 vs my old Z250)
RM100-150 can get u a decent set of tires vs around RM400 for 250cc
RM60-100 can get u a set of chain n sprockets vs around RM400 for 250cc
RM50-60 service (EO n filter) vs RM150-200 thereabouts for 250cc
RM600-700 for FULL overhaul vs RM2k for only TOP overhaul for 250cc

Kapchai convenience for KL road. Prefer scooter with box. Able to store raincoat.

Fuel saving also.

Engine will just suddenly off/die while you're riding, among other things.

Engine stalling seem like a frequent issue with ktm
Even their newest 390 engine have frequent stalling issue. High gear, low speed, you pull the clutch it dies.

Wtf
Quite a lot are reporting this in the FB groups

I know a few guys riding KTM.
Body parts breaking off when it is not supposed to... Leaking, air filter box bocor, etc.

KTM from 200 up to 390 parts made in India by Bajaj auto..

and assembled in Jitra - Kedah..

Have QC issues mostly with the MY CKD version, the same as those HLYM and MForce bikes..

Except for Modenas now, cos Jepun Kawasaki Heavy Industries engineers are actually on the production line to supervise the production process, spoke with one of them during the recent MOTO GP event..

I saw it myself, this t-shirt wearing duke rider doing his thing, and when he was passing me, engine died... and while the bike was still rolling, he tried in vain to start it until it slows to a stop.

also, water leaking into speedometer is not China bike thing, started with KTM back then.

though I've seen some really beat up Duke that never been down. tougher than most jap bikes.

Can't say much for Huskies as not many user rants in MY, but I do know the 200/250/390 engine series made by Bajaj Auto from India.

Skip the KTM and Benelli. Heard so many horror stories of the KTM. Bike under warranty and claiming is a hassle. Typical its all rider fault.

The kawasaki's are decent bikes. Good for a beginner bike.
