Most likely for a cleaner, closer shave. Electric shaver will never shave as close as a manual razor because the electric shaver razors aren't directly in contact with the skin.

When switching to electric shaver, skin irritation occurs initially due to skin not used to it. It takes some time to get used to and some might not wanna put up with that.

Been using Philips PT764 since switched to electric 4 years ago. Mostly sticking to it for speed and convenience.
