From what I found, both are not compatible. The ISO of Raspberry Pi OS I downloaded is ARM binaries, but VirtualBox only support x86 and x64. How?

From what I know, VirtualBox is the only free VM I can use, is that true?

Thanks, it points to "Go to the Raspberry Pi download page – Raspberry Pi Desktop section – and click on the “Download” button for a direct download".

There are VMware player, Qemu (No GUI), VritualBox is essentially Qemu with GUI.
And Hyper-v, but Hyper-V might f-up the other VM sweat.gif

Your purpose was to use it as programming purpose?

I don't recommend to use VirtualBox as it drain CPU resources a lot. You can actually run Ubuntu or other Linux OS thru WSL. Way more lightweight than VirtualBox. WSL can run on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

You run Raspberry Pi OS on VirtualBox just for programming purpose? Why not run WSL with Ubuntu? Is very rare to run Raspberry Pi OS on PC coz we could run better Linux OS on PC. VirtualBox drain too much resources.

Hi, I have deactivated my boo1977 username, so I thought I would reply with this username. Thank you for the concern.

Initially I installed Raspberry Pi Desktop because of Thonny Python IDE (yes, you're right, for the purpose of programming), but later I found out this IDE has Windows version also. I use Thonny Python IDE because it is required so that I can use MicroPython with microcontroller board (RP2040).

I ran WSL with Ubuntu before, but it is all command-line, cannot run Linux GUI application. VirtualBox has a GUI, unlike QEMU (also free) which use command-line.

Thanks for replying twice. My question is, how does WSL run Linux GUI application?

Yes, you can run GUI interface of Linux Ubuntu in WSL now.
