I wonder what is the typical salary to hire a full time chauffeur or driver?

Got two position in mind:
1. Work monday to friday, 9 to 5.

2. Weekend only.


Please advice me on a typical full time driver job arrangement? Thank.

around 2.5k, but, my ex-co cheapo, go hire one for rm2k. End up, non work more than 2 months

Exclude OT yeah

If I hire ....

Minimum wage plus OT.

If experienced, then higher.

Depends on your expectation and job scope. Some bosses want driver to wash car also

For weekend work, RM150 for 9 to 5.

Both 1 hour lunch break but flexible

Basic Salary =RM 1,500 basic
Total EPF = RM165 (from salary) + RM 195 (from employer) = 360
Allowance = RM 1,300
Total gross income monthly = RM 2,800
Total nett income monthly = RM 2,605 (nett)

Monday - Friday
7.30am - 5.30pm

Overtime RM25/hour

Have to remember that person will drive your car daily, send your wife/kids to work/school safely etc etc.

How you take care your driver is important. You pay low salary, don't expect him to take good care of your car or family.

Between 2.5k to 5k.
Not inclusive of petrol and other related costs.
Yeah. The skills to drive those two car are totally different.
Those who don't know are the one that get alphard then drive in between lanes since fail to understand own car size.

Not only that, he soon realised being delivery drivers earn more and no need face boss banyak pattern

Most drivers are Malays.

Before hiring them, make sure if they're OK to skip their prayers time....

We've hired Chinese drivers before, but they're too smart to handle.... ask them bring customers around, like from hotel to airport.... they pandai-pandai arrange customers go shopping at their selected joints.

Malay drivers, have the habit to ask for salary in advance. Haha. Unless you pay them well, lots of OT.

Job scope depends if you're hiring them for family or company.

For company, drivers have to run errands like banking or delivering documents and parcels, sometimes. Either using own bike or company provide. Not just driving boss to work or entertainment.

For family, job scope is wider....depends whether to take care family members travelling matters, or help tending garden in the house, washing cars and porch. Sometimes have to take care the house when owner goes overseas.

I think the ratio between malay & indian quite same. Govt or private sector.

I've had indian driver before. The best employee ever. 1st day on job, he ask to check my phone & watch time.. then he adjust his watch & the car time 5 mins before my time.

7 good years.. then he balik kampung to take care for his ailing mother.

My family's ex personal driver, basic 3k, after include OT 6k-6.5k?

Depends on the jobscope.

I know a certain co that pays its CEO/MD’s chauffeur RM7k per month as he is also the bodyguard.

Chauffeur is an ex-policeman.

A professional RR trained chauffeur? Around rm5-6k as well but depends on work scope as well. Very few exist in this country as most after 2-3 years they move on to Singapore or Middle East.

Corporate chauffeur? General ones are around rm3-4k basic but be prepared to add meals, night shifts and outstation allowance as well, those can easily add up to another rm2-3k each month.

Household drivers? These ones generally around rm2-3k, a close friend of mine pays his household driver rm3k basic plus rm350 per car they own and rm2 per km driven in addition to any night shift or weekend work, said easily can be up to double the basic…. Why?? A very simple thing he told me, you skimp and pay peanuts and an absolute certainty is a monkey toying with your expensive cars and time.

True. Most drivers will chase OT.

A good driver depends on how well the employee treats them.

I always give my driver some spare money to tip at least rm50 to anyone who's at the front entrance when I attend meetings (hotel, restaurants, govt/corporate offices). Over time, my car will always get parking right in front of most buildings without having to pay valet.

Because of this also, my driver made a lot of connections through them. He literally can get me almost anything I ask. Weed, co**ine, girls etc etc. Haha

Hard to find good drivers.

I know one friend who hired an Indian driver for 30 years. The driver even taught my friend's son to drive when the boy was old enough to get his driving licence. Haha..

We've one with us for a good ten years. Received rewards from our company. But couldn't resist the temptation to pocket a big tip from a guest. We capped a max amount of tip he could take because he was using our cars to ferry our guests. Because of that, he resigned.

It's a blessing in disguise though. Now our driver is a part time fitness coach. He looks like a body guard, handsome sumore..

Well, you may look for Sabahans to work as drivers. They're nice ppl, hardworking.

How much to pay them, really have to see what they can do. Need to factor in their driving skills, personal hygiene, be on time, seldom take leave, etc.

It never hurts to keep them well tipped and for sure they will chase OT especially in the current economic climate. Everyone has bills to pay.

I know a certain Tan Sri, he once told me anytime he needs to know a gatekeeper, his personal driver yields better results than trying to ask another Tan Sri. He takes damn good care of his driver.


It’s one of the toughest positions to fill at many corporates.

Sabahan drivers are very good too, will be even better if you also hire the wife at the same time.

Used to hire a Sabahan couple, 1 was driver and 1 was a nursing assistant for my old aged care home.

Too bad lost both of them as they decided to return to their kampung after 5 years of working 12 hour days.

Indian or Malay drivers? Must keep an eye but at same time must learn to close one eye.
