Is it advisable to change the whole lower arm while only the bushing is broken ? My car is Honda City SEL. Not sure whether it's better to chnage lower arm or change the bushing only while keeping the lower arm since new car .

Got guototed RM400 for genuine Honda lower arm (each side), aftermarket only cost less than RM300 per set, while bushing only gt 3rd party parts, dont have genuine Honda...

Which one should i go for ? Is it worth to get a pair of genuine Honda lower arm , I must admit that Honda parts are pretty reliable back then. Never replaced any bushing before, after 15 yrs , now only gt problem bangwall.gif

Search for polyutherene bushing for your car model on Google/Facebook/Mudah and you might be able to find it. Otherwise you can buy it online from overseas and get it delivered.

Nvr replaced the lower arm and its bushing since new car until now. Now suspect the bushing kaput, not sure whether RM800 can sustain another 15 yr rclxms.gif

3 choices,

1. Replace bush only, price be like RM300 - 400 +-(I might be wrong about the price)
2. Replace the whole lowered arm, price also be like RM400 +- per(My jazz 2014 just replace the whole left and right lowered arm last year)
3. Replace bush to poly bush, price be like RM600 +-(Then be less comfort, mostly those track kaki will upgrade this)

the general view on this is:
1. why change whole arm when you can replace bush?
2. 3rd market arm is not that much diff than just replacing bush + labor.
3. not many places can press out the bush and replace.

so decide on your own.

Per item, exclude labor fees. Not sure how much for perodua but for honda the price range is there.

If honda service center would be slightly expensive, other usual workshop I think around RM100 +- depends on area.

My thoughts on this, I normally go back for Ori lower arm.. no1 reason being, overal quality and durability.. Your ball joint will be on its way out soon too due to age. so do it once and do it right.. everytime you remove the lower arm and reinstall you will need to realign your wheels.

as for aftermarket arms some do work very well.. but these days quality in this area seems to be a big issue.

for replacement of bushes these generally dont last for rubber ones.. There are polyurathane bushes out there in the market, expect it to be at a durometer of 80-85 and above. My weekend car is on Prothane bushes. So ride quality is not too bad, but where it really differs is the NVH. As much as i love the more direct feel of Poly bushes, on my daily car i still use factory original stuff for the best balance between comfort and performance. Hope this helps you decide.

Since it lasts so long and satisfactory, replacing whole arm is better in my opinion. Eliminates workmanship issues although minimal, plus u cant get an ori bushing i think. Only aftermarket ones which might not last as long. Again another risk

Have done both the whole arm replacement and only bush replacement on some of my cars.

Bush replacement can be a real pain for the mechanic and time consuming especially when rust has 'fused' the bush assembly into the housing. Unless your mechanic has a hydraulic press, most will end up hammering, heating, or sawing off the bush outer brace to replace them. I saved about rm50-rm80 between both but the car took 1 to 2 hours (I wait at the shop while its being worked on), in comparison to only 15-30mins by swapping the whole arm.

You want advice but held back on what was the problem with the driveshafts. Certain problems with the driveshaft can be fixed without changing the entire thing.
