i'd recommend this movie to those who've read the graphic novel, those who loved the underworld movies, and to those who're bored with inhumanly beautiful nocturnal creatures of anne rice's vampire world.

these vampires are fast, vicious and unforgiving. they are portrayed as adaptable hunters and are very good at their game. for a population of a small town in remote alaska, they dont stand a chance. this movie is part psychological horror, part action thriller.

but since i've read the graphic novel long before, i already know the ending lah. i spoilt myself biggrin.gif

some illogical things though;
1. There should be some form of medical facilities in the small town, a doctor or a clinic somewhere.
there's a clinic, just it's not featured in this film. and i'm not sure why not showing a clinic in this film constitutes as illogical. why would they need a clinic anyways? one bite can turn them into vampires, so what would anyone need a clinic for?

It's called realism. A town needs to be supported by facilities, and medical facilities is one of them. THe only economic activity I could possibly think of is Oil drilling in cold places like Alaska, which this film failed to portray too.
A town exists because of supporting economy behind it. Some town appearing middle of nowhere, with no supporting economy looks very unreal

like i said, there's a clinic or medical facility, but it did not get into the film bcoz it just so happen that those arent related to the story. they dont have time to get to a clinic or whatever. eben is the sheriff, stella is the fire marshall. a fire marshall in a small town would definitely impose that there are other facilities as well. like i said before, it just dont get intertwined into the story.

the town has been mentioned in the dialogue to be driven by oil drilling. go and watch it again. and again, it did not get portrayed bcoz it's not relevant.

2. A cut-off town for more than a few days will provoke suspicion of their neighbouring towns, and surely they will send something to investigate... and not wait for 30 days...
maybe u missed the first 10 minutes of the movie. the town is cut off from other civilization bcoz of winter (they are the northern most town in alaska). each winter, they wont be getting any sun for 30 days, hence the town is reduced into a state of hibernation. neighbouring towns dont expect anything bcoz they were supposed to be isolated for 30 days.

maybe you missed my point. A town , which will be cut off for 30 days from civilisation must have some form of backup in case of emergency. Mothers can give birth to child, people might drown,  appendicitis might happen. Don't tell me the most remote town in malaysia also do not have this, what more to a more advanced country like USA? A downlink in their satellite communication will trigger some form of suspicion.

have u been to the US? not every part of the US is as advanced as washington or new york. trust me.

3. the vampires wearing modern working suit?
what would u expect them to wear?
some dirty worn out clothes or being naked.

come on, they going to kill the humans , and the head vampire wore the working suit which did not get dirty for 30 nights....

in this film, the vampires arent mindless. actually, most films portray vampires as civilized, modern and integrated into the human culture. and we dont see the head vampire kill anyone until the last fight with eben.

QUOTE(soul2soul @ Nov 7 2007, 09:51 AM)
i did not read the book, so my views are based solely on my experience at the cinema.

People who live in the most remote areas must have some friends or relatives elsewhere right? Their relatives/friends will call to say hi from time to time. and when they are not able to say hello for 30 days, dont tell me these people will not be suspicious and alert the authority?

as i mentioned earlier, I like the movie but I thought it has a very awkward ending. THe momentum was good , suspense was great ..  until the final 15 mins of the show. There is no climax to the show, and it ended kind of abruptly.
