i don't thnk it would be hard to create the same atmosphere as the graphic novel (for example silent hill)...but maybe we won't get the same feeling watching this movie compared to reading the book...but nevetheless, i will still watch it bcoz i love the book wheni read it not so long ago...

first of all, i think u should read the graphic novel (not necessarily before u watch the movie)...then u'll notice that they didn't follow the book 100%...i think if they did, then people won't get so confused...

as for the clinic question, i don't think it's necessary to show each building in the town just for the sake of realism...if showing a clinic gave u the sense of realism, then they have to show the school, the post office, etc...then it will be a documentary (show in discovery travel and living) instead of vampire movie...

as for the second question: notice that the town's people are hurrying to the airport to leave the town on the last day?basically barrow will be deserted during the 30 days of night...only a few people will stay due to their own reason...so any emergency, cut off communication, malfunction computer are expected during this period...they've been doing this for so long...nobody will be suspicious when this snow storm stricken town is out of order...

third question: according to the novel, vampire has already exist in our world for hundred thousand of years...they are already among human for so long, thus they adapt to our clothing and culture...the only reason they went to barrow is to have a feeding frenzy, led by the rebellious talking vampire (named marlow, against the order of an old vampire boss, named vicente)...

seriously guys, u should read the graphic novel...

judging on the comments here, it seems like most forumer prefer their vampire to look like count dracula (or at least like kate beckinsale)...the usual 2 fangs, charming and seductive, sucks blood thru the 2 holes on their victim's neck, can turn into bat, black tux complete with blood red lined cape, etc...anything with more than 2 fangs is considered zombie...

judging from ur posts, i guess u're not familiar with the term "suspension of disbelief"?

i wonder how u get by on other fictitious material biggrin.gif

yup, i was about to ask him (if he don't mind), is there any other vampire movie he likes?..or is there any fictitious movie he likes?...or does he even like the horror genre?..i do think too much of realism in a horror movie will make the movie unworkable...anyway, no offense bro...no flaming intended, just curious on how you watch horror movie all this while...sorry

i wouldn't say it's the most interesting and must see movie of the year...but being a fan of its graphic novel, i think it could be one of the most interesting vampire movie if they really follow the original version...they did managed to create the same chilly atmosphere of an alaskan town like the book does (i like to think that the coldness is the reason why the pace of the film is a bit slow)...as for the horror factor, it did quite well but not enuf to make me jump off my seat...all in all, it's a nice movie to watch as long as u don't go to the cinema being a film critic...

I designate most horror movie to class 'B' movie, tailored as cheap flick to give  reasons for horny men to fondle their girlfriends.  drool.gif

I seldom watch horror movies because I do not believe in vampires and those supertitious things, and most horror movies have undertone of christian propaganda of God vs Devil thing, which I do not ascribe to.

I watch horror movie for a very simple reason, beautiful naked babes. and there is no nudity in 30 days of night... shocking.gif

watching horror movie for nudity, hot chicks, fondle girlfriends....i concur notworthy.gif ...cannot argue on that tongue.gif

that's what happen when a healthy adolescence with raging hormon don't get enuf porn in their daily life...they have the tendency to sexed up everything they see/watch/look...and yes, last time vampire movie always have the element of nudity...

hehehe...i remember that film tongue.gif

that time i was really into vampire movies...vampires doing "it" (either among themselves or soon to be victims) interest me more than watching scenes featuring normal human... tongue.gif

LOL, u watch this movie only to expect nudity scene?

I watched it yesterday, quite scary but I don't think this movie is logic after all. And the last fight is so....not thrilling. And can anyone explain to me why the heck they want to go to the big factory-like place?

not this movie la...we were talking about the alyssa milano's movie doh.gif

if u read the graphic novel, the survivors didn't change their hiding places like they did in the film...they stayed in one place (a well hidden basement)...i think the director wants them to go from one hiding place to another just to create suspense...

QUOTE(beck_ken @ Nov 9 2007, 07:49 PM)
i missed the first 5-10 minutes of the show...
when i entered the cinema, the female actress' car was broke down and can't make it to airport for the last flight.

oh well, why the vampire wanna attack the village?
*
a feeding frenzy...free food without having to fear the sun light and the resistance from the 'food' for 30 days...

QUOTE(HMMaster @ Nov 9 2007, 08:13 PM)
where the vampire gone after sunrise? Its not like they have place to hide...
*
even the graphic novel didn't show where they went when the sun came up...but it was as though they ran away to hide and when eben want to chase them, stella told him not to and said something like "they will never come back"...

QUOTE(ericjeff @ Nov 9 2007, 11:25 PM)
i give this 3 out of 5.... story quite ok only..... but josh harnett played a good role...... and the girl also.....

but somehow i hav many question to ask after i watch this movie.....

1. how they come and how they hid before that? why they now baru attack the place? ... they said waited for a long time.....
based on the graphic novel, the attack on barrow was led by a rebellious vampire, marlow (a small boss)...there's a vampire big boss named vicente (an old vampire, maybe a pure blood)...all this while the vampire never attack a town in such manner bcoz they don't want human to know that vampire exist...bcoz the last time human knew about vampire, vicente's father and brother end up dead...marlow's intention was to impress vicente by presenting a feeding ground but it seems that it was a wrong move...

2. why josh harnett killed the black guy while he almost turn into vampire instead of giving him a task as a lure or something? waste lo~.....
at that time, he hasn't thought about using a vampire to fight the vampires...he only thought about it out of desperation to safe his wife...

3. how come other ppl come out after the vampires leave?
sure la, the sun is already up...vampire won't attack them in day light

4. why the stupid vampires scare of josh harnett after he killed the boss? then where they go? weird
they were afraid of eben bcoz it seems like he is not on their side (something like 'angel", the vampire with soul)...and eben has the strength that could match their former boss...they ran bcoz eben might kill them next...

*
btw, the crazy guy in the jail, he was being used by the vampire to disable the town with a promise that later he will be one of the vampire...in the film, it seems like the vampire boss killed him (they're not keeping their promise)...but in the graphic novel, the crazy guy was killed by eben and stella when he tried to escape the lock up...
