personally i would go for the tamron.
versatile always better than superzoom. superzooms get sidelined very fast and will be always sitting in your drybox a few months later.

I also think so like that.. Having long telephoto 600mm is nice for birding and perfect Moon shoot, but need to go deep forest/ hutan to find good looking birds in Malaysia, and same moon shot on Internet. Hard to dismiss the 1:2 macro Tamron, almost 1:1 macro already.

Go for Sony the AF speed is much more reliable and faster. That tamron lens can sit in dumpster and nobody wants it.

In fact, I have 85mm f1.4 can convert to macro lens sometime. So...Still a hard choice for me, between these 2.

birding in Msia? 600mm is still not long enough
and with zoom, you are mostly limited to perched birds, can forget about most actions, won't hv sufficient light.

Thanks for advice. Malaysia, likely need to join birding group to shoot, they got good birding spots.

From specs go straight for Sony. It's not like the Tamron will make excellent portrait lens, use another lens for that purpose.
