Hi fellow MKB fans,

What's a good way to sell off extra switches and keycap sets? Ordered a few to test different profiles and now I have some extra and not much storage space. Garage Sales seems pretty dead.

I'm interested in GMK keycaps but the prices are kinda ridiculous. Is there somewhere in KL that might have GMK keycaps for display?

I'm using Kailh Box Jade's, I prefer the feel of it more than Cherry Mx Blues.

Nice, I tried a sample Jade and liked it too. Do you find it tiresome while gaming?

I was thinking of swapping springs in case not used to it, but read that it is not as simple in clickys...
Any tactiles you can recommend?
*
I started with MX blues many years ago and I've been gaming no problem since then.

I actually did buy Keychron V6 with their K Pro Reds but I kept ghost typing because of how light they are. Swapped to Kailh after doing some research and I'm pretty happy so far.

As for tactile, I have only tried them on a cheap Machenike K500 but it's not really a fav of mine. Feels a lot mushier than MX Blues. Probably because of cheap switches in those.

In the end, I think it's personal preferences, I have no issue with clickies because I started with them and I am a heavy typer anyways, so I don't feel fatigued by it. In fact, using linear switch made me typo a lot because I brush against the keycap and it actuates!

True. i'm using leftovers keychron blues that i used to hate venomously but after lubing i find like you i actually type and games better because of the honest feedback it gaves lol The whole rattles and high pitch sounds are just bonus nostalgia points, iciing on the cake.

Maybe im just OD on clacky linears and wanted a breathe of fresh air..lets see
*
Oh this reminds me, I did buy a box of Keychron Blues but they really suck in feel and sound compared to the old MX Blues I used.

I bought Red because the Lazada official store only had pre-built in stock, so I bought the Blue switches as well, but after using them for a week I cannot tahan the feel.

Ended up with the Kailh Jades and those are worlds apart. Mkb.gg stocks them so I'd recommend to buy 10 or 20 first to test out the feel before Committing like I did. And yes the honest feedback is really what I prefer and used to. The click bar design of the jades truly is miles apart from the K pro blues.

Also, not sure if this is still common or not, I also put O rings on all the keycaps and that also helps with not bottoming out thus causing louder sound.

*update

got reply from seller after 2+ hours. they said they sent the correct item. blue switch

doh.gif

i gave screenshot proof i ordered brown. and the box says its blue switch. is he gas lighting me?  laugh.gif

this is the exact wording
hopefully this is a mere innocent misunderstanding on the seller part. looking at it negatively, the seller knows they done goofed up and are now doubling down with their gas light. which do you think this is?  sweat.gif
anyway already sent back the mkb return at the nearest drop off collection point. easy and fast  rolleyes.gif now the seller has about a week to acknowledge the return item.
*update

contacted

https://rkgamingstore.com/

support@rkgaming.com

they claim they are the distributor not the manufacturer/brand owner  rolleyes.gif  so how do you contact them? or are they just bsing and giving the run around? i sus the later. checked google did not find any other relevant site  sweat.gif

short story is, they're saying shopee malaysia store nothing to do with them since they are another of the many distributors for this brand but not the actual company itself for the brand. supposedly.
*update

now it seems the box shows the incorrect information. the mkb inside is indeed the brown switch.

But the seller did not clarify it properly the first time.

And by the time i received the clarification mentioning this, i had already sent the package to the collection point.

X_X; unlucky.
so at this point shopee said have to wait package returned to seller, before they can raise dispute and return package to me. i hope they don't charge me for shipping since it is not my fault.

1. box has incorrect information
2. seller didn't explain properly the first time. by the time he explained properly he had done so hours later.... (see the issue here). But by then already too late since i already sent back the package for refund at the collection point.

rolleyes.gif
noticed the seller used a translator for typing. maybe this is why a misunderstanding happened. he was a bit too careless in his explanation. Don't state the switch is blue confirming my suspicion it is the incorrect order. Properly say it is brown but the box is labelled incorrectly. That is all he had to say the first time  rolleyes.gif
based on his half a-ssed responses he is not being diligent. so he has to take blame for this issue  sweat.gif  this is what happens when you delay replies and don't properly clarify your replies properly. shopee will complain to him (some penalties? complaints?), and i have to to delay receive my item. nobody wins  sad.gif
*
Yeah RK gaming store on shopee quite bad service.

I tried to order a keycap set from them last Dec, put in the order but no movement for 5 days.

I message them to ask why not sent out yet then they answer because no more stock. in the end have to choose some other one and got it like 2 weeks later.

Their keycap set is dyesubbed but super faded out and dont feel nice at all. I said i wanna return but they rejected it and in the end I just took the hit. Blacklisted them afterwards. Their CS is really bad.

i do have some dye subs from an old cherry classic keyboard. they do look faded. Not as crispy as double shot keycaps.

Not sure if due to wear of an old donor keyboard, or they are simply just like that. I only have that one set of keycaps, so i don't have any other dye sub keycaps to compare them to.

If you were to ask me which i prefer, i definitely liked doubleshot since it's resistant to wear and has excellent contrast.

dye subs have a special unique look some may enjoy  hmm.gif i guess it's a matter of taste.
*
Bro this is a new item, I have another dye-sub set that looks fine and was using that for a while.

I put up the pictures on Carousell so you can judge: https://www.carousell.com.my/p/1280208874/?...=share-copylink

The text and images are freaking pixelated lol. Looks horrible and not to mention the faded look. At least it was cheap, but they got me there cry.gif

Go Lazada and check out the Keychron official store first. RM3xx budget can get you decent boards from their V series.

Hi,
Any suggestion for budget below RM300.
It has to be wired + also bluetooth, need numpad on the right side. Also not noisy. Used them for work, excel etc only. Not gaming.

Never tried mechanical keyboard before, would like to try it for once.
Thanks in advance. notworthy.gif

If you need Numpad, the only real option is Keychron. I am personally using 2 models, Keychron V6 (full sized, wired only) and Keychron K4 Pro (96%, wired and BT). You can check Lazada for deals on those models.

There are also other places, you can try finding 2nd hand on Carousell.

Anyways for work I would not really be too fussy and even the cheap China brands like Machenike and Thunderobot (i think) would work. You can check LazFlash they tend to do a lot of sales to dump stock.

Hello, I'm planning to buy a mechanical keyboard mainly for typing, not for gaming. I enjoy the sound that mechanical keyboard makes, I don't know much about it but know there's a few types, there's a DIY shop that specifically sells DIY customized mechanical keyboard called KEEBS Project, is it a good idea to go there and customize one ? Anyone got any experience with that shop or any other recommendations ? Thanks.

PS - I’ve just been to physical store, are the switches’ brands like razer / chery MX / MMD etc all the same in terms or spec and quality ? And the only difference is in how it sounds ?
*
KEEBS Project seems pretty legit.

Anyways, if you want to start getting one for typing the main thing to be aware of is that there are 3 main types of mechanical keyboard switches:

1. Clicky - considered the original style, "heavier" feel, noisy, least amount of fans and switch types but a wonder to type on in the right conditions and my personal favourite. Video of how they sound like: https://youtu.be/B3K2j1zuYyw

2. Tactile - has feedback when you press, less noisy, the middle route of switches between clicky and linear. Video: https://youtu.be/JdY8mgOxbVE

3. Linear - smooth feeling and fast, silent, good for light typists. Most popular type nowadays. Using this in office. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=129W9M-e9DQ

Since you mentioned sound, the videos linked above should give you a decent impression of how each type sounds like to you. I'd still recommend going to shop and test each type to see if you like them or not.

As for buying, the easiest entry point right now is buying Keychron boards, specifically their V-series or Q-series boards that come with either ABS plastic or aluminum case. V-series is cheaper and sounds more muted, Q-series is their premium line and has the corresponding feel. There is an official store for keychron on Lazada with vouchers applicable right now if you want to buy now: https://www.lazada.com.my/shop/keychron/?pa...m&tab=promotion

Another key thing you need to take in consideration is the LAYOUT of the keyboard, as there is a wide choice of them from 65% to 101%, which keychron does have. While this seems like a minor thing, but I'd say to start with a keyboard layout you're more familiar with at first to minimize the regret. I bought an uncommon layout from a Chinese brand and really regretted losing some keys so I bought another fuller-sized board to replace. Here is a good article that describes the common layouts available nowadays: https://www.keyboard.university/100-courses...s-layouts-gdeby

In any case, I'd choose a new one following the criteria below from most important to least:

1. Budget
2. Switch type
3. Layout

Other nice things you can consider to have are:

1. Hotswappable sockets - meaning the keyboard supports easy changing of switches if you want to test other types of switches
2. RGB - well some gamers love it.
3. Wireless - sometimes the most important thing ppl want, but you'd want to get tri-mode which means they support BlueTooth, 2.4ghz Wireless and Wired input.

Hope that's good enough info and good luck with your foray in the mechanical keyboard world!

Hi, I'm planning to try out some custom keycaps on my current mechanical keyboard (Leopold FC900R), but I'm not sure where can I get them and how to know if they are compatible with my keyboard or not. Any advice?
*
RTings review of your keyboard states its a RGB-less keyboard and uses Cherry MX switches so its super easy to buy keycaps since almost all keycaps sold online are for Cherry MX cross-stems. There's a number of good places to buy on Shopee and Lazada and I've bought a few sets already.

My personal recommendation for replacement keycaps are from a China brand called "Aifei" which offers great quality for a reasonable price and I'm personally using it for the last 5 months without issue. Here's the link to the shop where I bought them on shopee: https://shopee.com.my/digital_maniac

Hi ! Thanks so much for your valuable information and advice. First of all I got to research as much as I can without jumping into the rabbit hole, because all I want is a decent durable mechanical keyboard that will lasts me many years to come.

I went over to KEEBS Project physical store yesterday to try out all kinds of switches, the feel and sound of it. For now, I'm coming to the conclusion of getting Holy Panda V2 tactile switches, can I know what is your opinion of that and which manufacturer does holy panda belongs to ? Also, should I even be bother with whether to use stock switches or lube the switches ?

Aside from all of that, once I pick my switches, I'll probably let the experienced ( hopefully ) staff help me out with assembling and choosing the rest to best fit my budget and design. Normally for mechanical keyboards stores like KEEBS, they will have a standard few options for keycaps / keyboard to let us choose from right ? So then we will pick alongside with their advice ?
*
Since this is your first keyboard, just follow the staff recommendation and let them handle everything as long as it fits your budget and confirm the warranty with them. I honestly dont get the need to lube the switches.

For keycaps, try to get decent quality ones like double shot ABS or high quality dye-sub PBT. They should have a number of designs to choose from. My personal recommendation is getting Aifei keycaps as they have great quality for the price.

Ok thanks, so in short, I just choose the switches that I want, then let the staff handle and assemble the rest for me ? Is it the GMK Aifei keycaps that you mentioned ?

Yes they are a GMK clone keycap maker.

Ok got it, so I don't have to bother to lube the switches or get pre-lube switches right, just use the stock switches as it is?
*
Yes, if you don't feel comfortable you can go back to the shop and get them to lube it instead.

More importantly just get a feel for the keyboard first. No point going so crazy for your first keyboard.

Oh ya, about Holy Pandas switches, I heard from Reddit that the Holy Pandas switches is manufactured by Drop, but I see KEEBS Project / Mecha, they have this Holy Panda V2 tactile switches from MMD, so they claim it's not a brand they heard of before assuming it's one of those 1:1 "fake" or clone switches to the real ones ?

lmao, there's a whole crazy drama with those back in the day from what I've heard. Honestly just get the one in ur budget first and change if you dont like
