Jobview = Job interview truncated.

To sum up simply, went for a job interview recently, quite interested in the position. Interview was positive. Interviewer boldly stated there was going to be a second round. This was... 2 weeks ago. Said I needed to go through an assessment. Waited all week for the assessment last week, they kept promising they'll send ASAP. Never came.

Stepping into 2nd week this week. I didn't want to push because the interviewers said they were reviewing the matter. Reviewing what exactly, I don't know either.

Should I follow up again? Or just assume it's a lost cause?

Not sure if this matters but person hiring is Caucasian.

Nothing wrong with followup if they clearly mentioned/ stated the expected next phase.

In terms of mentality/ expectation, I won't pay much attention until they start negotiating salary/ job offer stage. Anything in between, it's just to determine fit.

Keep looking for other jobs in mean time if you are desperate. Remind them more rapidly if you got other offers in hand. If no push factor, carry on with your job and treat this as a nice diversion from BAU

Salary discussion has already taken place. However, the assessment has not been given. I do currently hold a job at the moment but am pretty interested in the job.

Would a 2nd followup ruin my chances technically?

just email them and ask about the status would be good, y would u think that it will ruin ur chance?

just something like showing ur interest and u r waiting for their response or any status, out of courtesy they will tell u whether they're still considering or reject ur application

I should probably clarify that by 2nd followup, I am referring to the third time I am inquiring about my application status.

I suppose it felt rather dubious to me because the hiring manager seemed super keen 2 weeks ago and wanted to get on with the assessments and hiring process. However, when the following week came through, it was radio silence throughout until I had to push them. And again, no assessments given.

With that in mind, should I still follow up?

IMO u can still follow up, if there's still no update given, u can give up on this company since their behaviour in hiring is not responsible, u roughly can guess how's the working environment there, even they give u offer later on, u should doubt their credibility since they can't even response to ur query on job application status

Many factors on delay but I think frequent follow up should not harm your chances other than showing you care/ more desperate to land the job.

My experience with Caucasians are that most are very friendly and poker face so it's very hard to read the acceptance/ rejection as compared to Asian recruiters that tend to be less discreet

All hiring managers will have to play their cards right, meaning they have to be seen as showing keen interest. Whether or not it is genuine or even relative it can be different.
For example, if your interview was at 10am and you were the first and did well. Of course the Hiring Manager would be keen. But by 4pm, another candidate comes in, way better. Of course the Hiring manager will be even more keener then. Then later that week got an even better candidate comes in.

By that time, the hiring manager has to weigh all the options and probably push for the candidate of choice to HR to follow-up on first.

To be really frank, don't put your hopes up high the moment there is radio silence.

Thanks again for the advice. Followed up with the hiring manager and they mentioned they've put the hiring on hold(?) It wasn't specified what was on hold due to a typo but I'm guessing it's referring to the hiring.

Kinda bummed seeing that job scope was within my area of expertise.

It's just another way of saying you are not being hired or they held the interviews to make it seem to the management that they are looking out.

i have never been shy in following up to the extent of annoying them. But of course i don't recommend anyone in doing this. But i know where I stand so i don't care. You don't get back to me by a certain date, I will call you.

You know sometimes they can be slow in processing the hiring, i will just call them repeatedly. So far, it has never hurt me.

In that case, then just better move on to looking for another job.

Will keep a close eye on the company but also stick with my current job. Thank goodness for stable income.

It would be difficult to find an employer who's willing to agree to my expected salary.

As a hiring manager, "On-hold" really means "I have found someone better, if I can't get that person whether it is the pay/job preference or not then I will go through my on-hold list".

That is what on-hold really means.

Hmm, wouldn't it be easier if they got straight to the point? That being said, what would you make of the employer if they are constantly still reviewing their applicants?

Apparently found out through the job portal I applied at because it provides you notification of the employer's activity.

If they told you straight you might not be interested. Means the employer would also lose more candidates which would extend out the hiring process as well.

If an employer still constantly reviewing their applicants, it means also that the bar is set quite high for a particular role. Either that or the role itself is changing (e.g. budget cuts, have to lower job grade, hiring freeze)
